Loving this HOT Morelli Party!!
Mmmm, yesss! I love short stories, especially when I get to visit some of my favorite couples!! The opening of Baby, it's cold outside is classic Elena and Dante with the two of them working to protect each other, even if Dante really didn't know what was happening yet. I adored this opening salvo into what is going on with Tiernan Morelli, even though I enjoy going into books blind, this gives the reader the ability to "know him" before his book goes live. If you're looking for spice in this little short DO NOT WORRY, Giana's gonna hook you up, that scene on the balcony... y'all just DA*N!! If I could have my own Dante, I KNOW the things I'd let him do!! Not just that, but the sheer force and will in that promise, does anyone REALLY wonder why he's so successful in everything?? 5/5 ⭐'s 10/10 🌶's

This is a book that has prequels to 15 new and upcoming stories that are coming soon. Silver Bells by Alta Hensley is about an illegitimate daughter to a mafia boss that has made is known that he doesn’t recognize her as his daughter. He’s having a special Christmas Party and a cousin sneaks her in. She needs help as she owes money to the Russian Mafia and their enforcer is there searching for her.Nick is the King of the Underground and in attendance and she’s intrigued by him and wants to see him. He knows everything as knowledge is power. Will they meet and make a deal? You have to wait for the book when it comes out!!!!!!

A holiday themed anthology set in the Midnight Dynasty World. I will update as I each story, in order of where they appear in the book:

    Hallelujah by Skye Warren
    pgs 4-31, 1%-6%
    3.5 ⭐️
This was a short glimpse into Eva Morelli & Finn Hughes. I have met Eva as a side character in several previous Morelli books, and I am eagerly awaiting her full story. I don't think it is necessary to read any of the other Midnight Dynasty books before this short glimpse at this couple. I was definitely intrigued by both Eve and Finn as separate characters in these four short chapters, though I am not yet sold on their couple chemistry. There was something a little off about the way the kisses they had were written (like the second was supposed to be the first or something?) but I was intrigued by the hints into Eva's past and loved Finn's extreme protectiveness.

O Come All Ye Faithful by Amelia Wilde
    pgs 34-73, 6%-13%
    3.75 ⭐️
This was a delightfully happy and steamy follow up featuring Haley Constantine and Leo Morelli from the Beast of Bishop's Landing trilogy by Amelia Wilde. I would not read this unless you have read that trilogy because it reads like a happy epilogue. It doesn't spoil major events/specifics from the trilogy but it does allude to some things that you won't know about if you haven't read it. Leo has been one of my favorite heroes in the Midnight Dynasty world so far so this was a special treat.

Baby, It's Cold outside by Giana Darling
    pgs 75-102, 14%-19%

This features Elena and Dante from another series by this author that I have not read (Anti-heroes in Love) so I am not reading it until after I have read that series as it appears to take place after. Elena is Tiernan Morelli's lawyer from the book Dangerous Temptation, which I loved!

    This Christmas by Theodora Taylor

I really liked this short story by an author new to me (I have bought a few of her books but have not had the chance to read any yet). It says there will be a full book for these characters coming next year - I'm not sure if it will take place after the events of this story or if this story will be expanded/fleshed out to a full book (because it kind of tells almost a whole story within it, just mini-sized) but either way I definitely want to read it. I also am interested in the story of Josh's brother and Neisha's sister hinted at in this one so added it to my list as well. The love scene was a little too short/clean for my current tastes so I am not sure if that is this author's style or just owing to it being a short story. The only tie in to Midnight Dynasty was that the characters attended one of the Morellis' parties so it can be read completely separately.

Wrapped in Red by Sam Mariano
    pgs 164-226, 30%-42%
    4 ⭐️
This complete short story is about Georgia, who is a personal assistant to boss Lee. I was a little confused about the timing in a couple places but it really didn't matter because the story was good and I always love a boss/employee trope. Like the above story, the only connection to the Midnight Dynasty world is that these two attended the Morelli Christmas ball. Overall, a good and steamy short story with Christmas themes.

O Holy Night by Pam Godwin
    pgs 229-282, 43%-53%
    4.25 ⭐️
This short story features Tinsley Constantine and Magnus Falke from Lessons in Sin by Pam Godwin (which should be read first). As their original book was one of my favorite books from this year I was absolutely delighted to see this couple again. The story has a bit of everything - steam, a barely there mystery, and all their happy - which made me happy.

    Santa Baby by Claire Contreras
    pgs 284-316, 53%-58%
    2.75 ⭐️
There is a note at the back of this story that says Vanessa & Adam (the main couple in this story) were side characters in her book The Player, and while you can definitely tell that from the story this does standalone. Like some of the other stories reviewed above the only relation to Midnight Dynasty is them attending a Morelli party. This story has a light contemporary tone and though there are a couple errors and small sections where the tense changes unintentionally, it is written/edited well. The main reason it has a lower rating than the other stories (so far) is that it is a second chance story where they went through a painful event & divorce in the past and this story is just too short to do justice to them getting back together so easily after what they went through. I can glean that this author likely writes books with strong family aspects and that interests me, as well as the fact that I think The Player is about a soccer player (different couple) so I might be checking that book out in the future.

    Last Christmas by Katee Robert
    pgs 317-336, 58%-63%
    3.5 ⭐️
This short story features Cael O'Malley and Eleanor McKinley and though I know this author has a whole series based on the O'Malley family I haven't read any of them and didn't need to have for this short story. This short features former lovers (older woman younger man trope) who meet again at the Morelli Christmas ball. It is a nice short with a good steamy scene but it is so short it lacks depth and is really just a tidbit of a treat. I can tell it would make a good full story and enjoyed the writing.

Little Drummer Boy by M. O'Keefe
    pgs 338-364, 63%-67%
    4.25 ⭐️
This short story features Zilla & Jacob. Zilla is the sister of Poppy, the heroine from a trilogy by this author that starts with the book Ruined. Throughout that trilogy Zilla and Jacob made little brief appearances and I was VERY intrigued by their relationship and very much wanted to read a book about them. That interest continued in this story and every mention about things these two have gone through in their past made me want to read a full-length book about all of those things in detail. I don't know if that is ever planned but I would SO read it if the author feels lead to read it. I love an outwardly cold hero who is fighting his feelings for the heroine and eventually loses control. This story as snippets of that but I crave a longer version for these two.

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear by Jenika Snow
    pgs 366-399, 68%-75%
    Unrated (not included in average)
Features a story about a couple that already had a book - Cold-Hearted B@stard by Jenika Snow - which I haven’t read yet. Since this seems to take place after that book I will skip it until I’ve read their full book.

Carol of the Bells by Maria Luis
    pgs 401-444, 75%-83%
    4 ⭐️
This short story is about Laela Donna, a daughter of a criminal & Reid Paxton, the FBI agent who arrested her father in the past. I can't tell if there are related books or not but this does tell a complete little story about these two and I liked their chemistry a lot. It was well-written and an easy read. Again, the only relation to the Midnight Dynasty world is that they attended the Morelli Christmas ball.

    Silent Night by Sienna Snow
    pgs 446-475, 83%-88%
    Unrated
This short story features Simon & Nyx, which appear to be the couple coming in a book with a release date in April that is part of this author’s Gods of Vegas series. It is listed as book six, and thought it appears all books have different couples I have a little OCD so I want to read this books first and therefore am skipping this one for now.

Away in a Manger by Jade West
    pgs 477-496, 88%-92%

A sweet and steamy bonus epilogue to the trilogy about Lucian Morelli and Elaine Constantine (book one is called Heartless). I loved checking in with these two to see how their HEA is going, and as usual I loved Lucian’s filthy mouth.

All I Want For Christmas Is You by M. Robinson
    pgs 498-508, 92%-94%
    2 ⭐️
A single chapter/sneak peek featuring a playboy never-gonna-settle-down star quarterback who instaluvs with a woman named Sophie in a bar. I wasn’t a fan of their interaction - which seemed like it was attempting to be flirty banter but fell flat for me - and there were a few minor editing issues (error in first sentence - a pet peeve of mine - and missing commas, etc). I can imagine as a sneak peek chapter that it hasn’t been edited yet so that didn’t change my rating, the biggest issue was just not liking their interaction. FYI: a note in the back says it is set in the same world as Second Chance Contract, so it might be these character have appeared their too? Not sure.

    Silver Bells by Alta Hensley

This read like a prequel, and it is noted that the characters have a book coming in April 2022 called King of Spades. The heroine, Lyriope, has a chip on her shoulder over being the secret, illegitimate child of the Morelli patriarch (Bryant) and the hero is a mysterious, powerful figure in their world. She has gotten herself into some trouble and he is offering to protect her - for a price. There were some awkwardly written sentences that bothered me, and I wasn't in love with the way their physical interaction was written, but I really liked their dynamics, the plot and his dirty talking so I am eager to read a full-length book about them.

    FALLING DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

The story is a novella featuring Nick Hudson and Lyriope Bailey. They will have an encounter at the Morelli Christmas party. He is an invited guest, a well-respected man, and owner of a private club, Wonderland. She is an intruder, always on the outside looking in—a Morelli by blood but never claimed.

“The good, the bad, and the in-between mingle within these walls. Secrets, gossip, and threats blend with the music playing in the background.”

“I’m fascinated with the tales and stories of debauchery that surround Wonderland. And though the Morellis are exclusive, Wonderland is truly restricted as it’s invite only for the few. I want the key. I want the pass to enter. I want a seat at one of his infamous tea parties.”

The story’s plot will have Sasha Morelli sneaking her friend—cousin—into the Morelli Christmas party. They will spend time talking about the various guest that arrive, but Sasha needs to mingle, and Lyriope needs to plan her exit. When people enter, that mean her harm; she will escape to a study where she will have a face-to-face meeting with Nick Hudson.

Nick: You shouldn’t be here. Your life’s at risk as long as you stay.
    Lyriope: Excuse me?
Nick: You can run from them, but can’t stay hidden long.

I love the angst, suspense, danger, and sexual passion that oozes between Lyriope and Nick. He is impressed that she has done her homework and holds her part in their tête-à-tête. Lyriope has borrowed from the wrong people, but Nick is giving her a one-night pass—and the price is her.

Nick: You’ve done your research on Wonderland, yes?
    Lyriope: Yes
Nick: Then you know Wonderland doesn’t allow innocence, it doesn’t allow goodness, and it sure doesn’t allow virgins through the doors. And you also know that Wonderland only allows people with the dark, the extremely dirty, and the most f***ed-up sexual tastes past its threshold. And you also know, that Wonderland is invite only
    Lyriope: Then invite me in.
“There isn’t a part of him that isn’t absolute perfection. He’s raw, he’s edgy, he’s dark, and his madness is everything I’ve ever wanted.”

The novella is a taste of a new series, King of Spades coming Spring 2022 with Lyriope and Nick Hudson. The tale has only just begun—truly Alta Hensley style!

Lyriope is the illegitimate daughter of Bryant Morelli the head of the Morelli family. Bryant Morelli refused to acknowledge Lyriope and she has been ignored all her life an outcast on the outside looking in. A sparkling Xmas party at the Morelli mansion and Lyriope has been snuck in by her cousin Sasha Morelli. We learn that Lyriope is in serious financial difficulty, owing money to the Russian Mob she realises that being at this party is a dangerous mistake when she recognises a Russian enforcer Maxim, who is quite obviously looking for her. Nick Hudson is a huge tattooed, stunningly attractive man who Lyriope is fascinated by and he arrrives with his entourage (he is the real reason she snuck into the party). Nick’s power is knowledge, information, he has a very exclusive club Wonderland, where he hosts tea parties but only by personal invitation. Lyriope must find a way to leave the mansion unseen by the Russians who are looking for her but Maxim is covering the only exit, so she slips into an empty room, however, the room is not empty. Now read on. This tantalising short story shows great promise, it is part of a new holiday anthology Meet me Under the Mistletoe due out later this year. This intriguing short, introducing Lyriope and Nick certainly wetted my appetite for Alta’s next project King of Spades. Just the right amount of titillating spice to get the reader anticipating something hot, absorbing and entertaining to read. Excellent start

I downloaded two ‘mistletoe’ books - one I didn’t finish and deleted but I devoured this one. I wasn’t quite prepared for how short these stories were and had got immersed in Skye Warren’s first story and wanted to know more about Finn and Eve’s story. After that, I relaxed into the various novellas and can see I will dip into them again. I found some new authors and all I can say is I’d love to have been invited to the Morelli’s Christmas Gala!
