Muddled in the Middle: Paranormal Women’s Mystery (Extra-Ordinary Midlife Mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 65 ratings

Haunted houses, paranormal pursuits, and now hot flashes? Someone, get this woman a drink.

Connie Keys is ready to move on. After decades spent catering to her family, the fifty-something widow has an empty nest and a new career pairing compatible residents with haunted houses. Happily putting the feather duster away forever, she spends her days chatting up ghosts … until her neglected vacuum cleaner sucks her attention back home with a cryptic warning of grave danger.

Almost certain the crop circles in the carpet are nothing more than her ghostly husband’s lame attempt to rekindle their relationship, she sets out to prove she doesn’t need help from anyone, especially him - alive or dead. But when a routine property inspection goes awry, the independent spirit-whisperer realizes she may need some supernatural back-up if she is to survive a malevolent poltergeist hell-bent on her demise.

Can she uncover the spooky specter’s secret before she finds herself reunited with her hubby on the other side?

Muddled in the Middle is the fast-paced prequel to the Extra-Ordinary Midlife Mysteries series. If you like heroines reinventing themselves, slightly scary mysteries, and a big dollop of humor, then you’ll love Lynn M. Stout’s spooky story.

About the Author

Lynn M. Stout grew up wandering the streets of Historic Downtown Jonesboro, Tennessee where she absorbed the town's rich history, fed her active imagination, and twisted her ankle on cobblestones.

She is an unapologetic voyeur when it comes to old houses and has an unhealthy obsession with creepy staircases. She loves research and enjoys a deep dive into old stories, especially if a ghost is involved.

She is married to her amazing and supportive husband of thirty years and is happy to report that she still likes him very much.

As a recent empty-nester, she is finding adventure in Michigan and is pleasantly surprised to find that her southern roots don't object to cooler weather at all.

She enjoys long walks with the Boxer, cuddling with her freakishly large cats, a good bottle (or two) of wine, and will continue to love Tennessee Volunteer Football no matter how bad it gets.

Lynn M. Stout writes twisted tales of strong women defeating evil, creepy mysteries with a paranormal angle, and rowdy characters full of joy and humor.

She grew up wandering the streets of Historic Downtown Jonesboro, Tennessee, where she absorbed the rich history, fed her already overactive imagination, and twisted her ankles on cobblestones. She always saw ghosts in the buildings and homes in the old town and couldn't rest until she’d created their stories.

She never outgrew that obsession and remains an unapologetic voyeur when it comes to old houses and creepy staircases. She loves research and enjoys a deep dive into old stories, especially if there is a wayward spirit involved.

Happily married to the most amazing and supportive man, she is the mother of two young adults, and has recently become a grandmother to the smartest, most amazing, sweetest baby boy - ever.

No, really…EVER.

Currently, she shares her home in Michigan with her husband, a lazy Boxer and two freakishly large, demanding cats. A Southern girl at heart, she loves Volunteer football, BBQ (done the right way), and Dolly. The heat, however, she could do without and loves not having random hot flashes while enjoying the phenomenal Michigan summers.

A fun experience over-all. The beginning was a bit slow but once the storyline hit everything picked up. Interesting premise, a mid-life realization that you are a witch.

Her husband never took her mysterious feelings for knowing when some thing was going to happen. But she know when she got the phone call, what happened.

This book moved along well. It was witty suspenseful and kept me reading the next page in the next page.
I definitely liked reading a book where the protagonist is in middle life versus her 20s or 30s. Those of us who are in the middle years and beyond will feel seen and understood. I do believe it’s a book for all ages because it is a fun, paranormal cozy mystery.

What happens when your husband dies unexpectedly but does not pass over? Connie is in for a shock not only does he not pass over he attached himself to a taxidermy beaver. Laugh out loud moments with a twisted spin. Great start to a fun series.

Connie's husband unexpectedly dies. Until she started receiving messages from him, she had no idea that she comes from a long line of witches.
Great book! I really enjoyed reading it.

Newly widowed Connie seems to have everyone telling her what she should do next! I loved meeting Connie and her friends. Brodie the beaver is a hoot! I’m excited to see what Connie does next as she revels in her new status. I received an advance copy and this is my honest opinion of the story.
