Murder Aforethought: A Cabrini Law Novel Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 536 ratings

A ticking clock. A deadly enemy. Can they keep their heads in the game when their hearts are already on the line?

Valentine Rivetti made a horrible mistake when he became a Marine Sniper at the age of twenty. Returning home with PTSD and a guilty conscience, he’s blackmailed into working for the mafia to save his family.

Maksim Kovalenko has everything he ever dreamed of growing up in a Ukrainian slum. As a notorious corporate attorney, he has the world at his feet. But wealth and power can’t protect him from the emptiness he feels every time he shuts his eyes.

When Val is arrested for a murder he didn’t commit, his redemption is a silver fox in a three-piece suit. But Val’s lucky day becomes Maksim’s nightmare when the mafia begins to cut loose ends… starting with them.

The passion between them is overwhelming, but can two solitary men learn to trust each other before it’s too late?

This novel is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. It contains an HEA and no cliffhangers.

Book 1 – Risk Assessment

Book 2 – Murder Aforethought

I did not read the first in this series, and it was fine as a standalone. This book has MCs with an age gap of almost 20 years, which is catnip for me. But more importantly, I loved all the characters, and particularly the dynamic between Maksim and Val. Val is a great big killer, ex military, but also very sweet and very lost. Maksim is a silver fox, a successful lawyer, with a sharp mind and a sharp tongue. They are an great example of opposites attract.

It’s so unusual for me to love a romantic suspense book because the romance often gets ignored for the sake of suspense. Parker St. John used the suspense as a way to develop the romance, just the way I like it. Everything they did together brought them closer, and all their interactions told us something about them, not just the plot. It was so good that I returned my KU borrow and bought it. I’m looking forward to the next in this series!

I really enjoyed this. Tough lawyer/ big bad tough ex sniper, find love on the run for their lives. It was rather insta love, but it still worked for me. Maybe somedays I need love without all the extra.
It was a fast paced book and I loved every min.
Writing was good, smexy was hawt and side characters I can wait to read more about

I’m not too familiar yet with the suspense romance (I think that’s what it’s called) genre. But I’m guessing this author may set the standard. This was excellent. Tense, yes, but filled with deep characters and a great plot. I absolutely loved these MCs, Maksim and Val, and I hope they show up in subsequent books in this series. I’d really enjoy getting glimpses of how their lives progress. Emma was so endearing as well. Such a great intro for me to this genre and series.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and action-packed but nothing felt forced. Everything happens right away and it's all-important so it doesn't feel unnecessary. From the secrets, to the danger, to the unexpected attraction between the two main characters you feel everything right along with them.
There's dry humor, sarcasm at it's finest, and enough "human" moments so that the characters don't get lost in the shuffle as the action comes in from all angles.
This could have been another cookie-cutter suspense novel, but it wasn't. The author took their time and built their world so it was the best it could be.

This story was a bit better then the last book but not by much😊. Once again the ending storyline was the best part of the story. I just have this feeling🤗 the next book will be even better👍.

I stumbled across Parker St. John in a reader’s group. I just finished this book, the second in the Cabrini Law series, and now have added Parker St. John to my favorite author list!

This story is tight, sweet and romantic without being too sugary sweet. I highly recommend that you read Risk Assessment first-you won’t be sorry. I have already pre-ordered both the Christmas special & the third book in the series! ❤️

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent thriller/romance.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 8, 2019
This is a fast paced, exciting, thriller which has a great cast of protagonists, who are regularly up against a bunch of well written bad guys, you know will cause no end of problems.

From page one, I was pulled into the story and the author had absolutely no problem in holding my attention the whole way through. It's an intense and action-packed read, and the twists and turns adeptly fool you into thinking you know where it's all heading before the story shifts in the opposite direction.

It's an absorbing and exciting book and the fact that it is told from both Val and Max's perspectives, means it's easy to follow and allows the narrative to flow well from page to page.

I adored the MCs, both Val and Max had a vulnerability that was totally out of sync with their respective tough guy, and suave professional personas. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, Miguel, Emma and Reese. I've already ordered the next book, which involves Reese, and downloaded book one to read.

A great second book in the series, the fact that I hadn't read the first story, didn't spoil this one in the slightest. If you like a fast paced thriller, you'll love this one.

Was will man mehr.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice story
Reviewed in Canada on January 3, 2020
Even if ex-militay suffering from PTSD and fighting mafioso to get to know who killed his dad is a bit far fetched. It is a nice story (quickly evolving to love story) with a shark lawyer and his veteran client. It’s action packed and both main characters are well defined. I liked both supporting caracther of Emma and Reese.
