Welcome to Redemption, Wisconsin! You're just in time to enjoy a cup of tea with a side dish of murder
Redemption is like any other quirky Midwestern small town.
Well, maybe it has more than its fair of secrets ... not to mention a strange and mysterious past.
And never mind how many people disappear ... or die ... every year. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
Right?
The Charlie Kingsley Mystery series is a spin off from the Secrets of Redemption series. All the books in both series are clean: No swearing, gore, bedroom scenes and very little violence. If you love twisty mysteries that take place in small towns with quirky characters and a touch of romance and the supernatural, then pour yourself a cup of tea and let's get sleuthing.
The Charlie Kingsley Mysteries
A Secrets of Redemption spin-off series. This funny, clean & twisty cozy series takes place in the 1990s and features cats, dogs, tea, ghosts, hauntings, murder, a touch of romance and loads of fun.
The books are standalone and can be read in any order. For Charlie's backstory, check out the Secrets of Redemption series.
The Charlie Kingsley Cozy Novellas
Short and sweet! Enjoy Charlie, Pat, Wyle, Midnight and Tiki and the rest of the gang in these short but fun mysteries. Can be read in any order.
The Redemption Detective Agency
A spin off from the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series. This cozy romcom mystery series also takes place in the 1990s and features a cast of silver sleuths (some you'll recognize from the main series) who solve cold cases with a hefty dose of romance. Think The Thursday Murder Club meets Bridget Jones's Diary, but in Redemption. All the books are clean, twisty, funny.
Secrets of Redemption
Secrets of Redemption is a blend of mystery, suspense, psychological thriller and romance (with a dash of the supernatural). These books need to be read in order:
- It Began With a Lie
- This Happened to Jessica
- The Evil That Was Done
- The Summoning
- The Reckoning
- The Girl Who Wasn't There
- The Room at the Top of the Stairs
- The Search
- What Wasn't Forgotten

About the author

A USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author, Michele taught herself to read at 3 years old because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some detours) but she does spend much of her time writing stories now. Mystery stories, to be exact. They're clean and twisty, and range from psychological thrillers to cozies, with a dash of romance and supernatural thrown into the mix. If that wasn't enough, she posts lots of fun things on her blog, including short stories, puzzles, recipes and more, at MPWNovels.com.
Michele grew up in Wisconsin, (hence why all her books take place there), and still visits regularly, but she herself escaped the cold and now lives in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona with her husband and southern squirrel hunter Cassie.
When she's not writing, she's usually reading, hanging out with her dog, or watching the Food Network and imagining she's an awesome cook. (Spoiler alert, she's not. Luckily for the whole family, Mr. PW is in charge of the cooking.)

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2025Pleasant, fun cozies in an off-beat small town with a smart main character and the people she sells tea and cookies to. Plus a police detective she could be in-like with and a touch of the supernatural The nice thing, too, is that the story premises are all different and smart.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2024Positives: As for the mystery part, the author did a good job with the plots, psychological aspects, and kept it interesting till the end. I don't usually read books with supernatural twists (horror, witchcraft, haunted houses, etc.), and while it had a darker feel that reminded me of the Haven TV series and some Stephen King plots, I found it entertaining and read through each one. I was glad it didn't get any darker. Also, these are clean with no profanity or sexy scenes. This is why I gave 3 stars.
Negatives: An annoying aspect of this series is the use of the word "alas". I've never heard anyone use the word "alas" in normal everyday language (even back in the 90's), except for fictional historical period pieces. The use of the word in this series was a distraction and the author could have removed it from each instance and the conversations would have been completely normal. Also, the 3rd book was my least favorite because Charlie became more of a busybody and inserted herself in the investigation. As a positive though, in each book she shares the information she finds out with the police, but she still got on my nerves. The author also eluded to Charlie's past that she had to "atone" for. Maybe it will be explained in future books, but there was no explanation in the first three. Charlie casually mentioned a character "Red", a supposed drug dealer who died in a mysterious fire that happened before books 1-3. When I was reading, I thought that it must have happened in a prior book that I hadn't read. Afterwards, I double checked and realized that these are books 1-3. Hmm. The references to Charlie's supposed haunted house are a bit vague, too. The first book didn't even mention it, but it came up in the second and third. Though every instance of her being home was with her in the kitchen baking and everything was normal. The only time Charlie went into any detail about it was when she vaguely eluded to weird dreams. Also, there was a repeated reference to a blizzard in the 1800's that left the town without adults and only children were left. In each of these cases where weird things were mentioned, nothing was delved into. Maybe the author will go into it in future books? I understand that an author wants to draw the reader in and not give everything away at the beginning, because you want the reader to keep coming back for more. However, nothing was explained and it was frustrating. After reading these three books, I'm no closer to figuring out this town, the people, and its mysteries. The books have promise, but I don't know if I'll read anymore.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2024I don't know what happened in Charlie's past, which gets mentioned a bit as to what drives her and the decisions she's made, including the move to Redemption. I like her and have not seen anything she has atone for, but would recommend reading the original series if not having her history will bother you. I am curious....
In this series, she lives in a haunted house with her cat, selling homemade teas. When her friends or clients end up in a spot of trouble, she finds herself roped into helping solve the murders. The most intriguing story was the second book. But again, lots of hints about the history of the characters.
Redemption has a quite the reputation too. I do worry about Charlie but she is smart and has a few loyal friends at her back.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024The characters are well described and interesting. The plots all moved along well with enough twists and turns to keep you interested.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2024The first book was interesting and I like the premise, The second book was better than a 3. I realized in the 3rd book that the hero-ette is behaving like the meddling nemesis that you would hate in other books of this genre. She helps to incite a murderous mob then acts as though she was the one trying to hold her ditzy neighbor back from doing the same, she sticks her nose into/onto other people’s property just for the sake of being nosy rather than progressing the plot and... I really don’t like her.

2.0 out of 5 stars not for me
I just couldn’t get into the first book in any way. I wasn’t able to connect with any of the characters, or the simplistic plot, the places, etc, all the ideas and vague theories that were discussed and discussed, it all seemed a bit ridiculous. I ended up skipping reading the first book and I’m not bothering with the others in this set.
It was very disappointing for me.
