9-Book Series!
1918 Moscow
Will following her heart mean losing her head? It could mean losing her job.
Fiona Figg trails her nemesis Fredrick Fredricks to Moscow. But when she arrives at the grand Metropol Hotel, the bounder has vanished.
After Fiona doesn't show up for work at the War Office, Kitty Lane raises a red flag and tracks her to Russia. Seeking haven at the British Embassy, Kitty and Fiona become embroiled in a plot to overthrow the Bolshevik government.
But the plot turns deadly when Fiona goes undercover as a governess in the household of Iron Viktor, the Bolsheviks' Head of Secret Police. And when Viktor turns up dead in his study, Fiona finds herself wanted for murder and on the lam.
Can Fiona and Kitty find the real killer and escape the Kremlin before it's too late? Or will this dangerous game of Russian roulette be their last?

About the author

Kelly Oliver is the author of four award-winning bestselling mystery series and dozens of nonfiction books.
Kelly grew up in the Northwest—Montana, Idaho, and Washington states. Her maternal grandfather was a forest ranger committed to saving the trees, and her paternal grandfather was a logger hell bent on cutting them down. The only thing they agreed on was Canadian rye whiskey. On both sides, her ancestors were some of the first settlers in Northern Idaho. She went from eating a steady diet of wild game shot by her dad (and playing drums with their hooves) to becoming a vegetarian while studying philosophy and pondering animal minds at Northwestern University where she got a PhD in philosophy. Competing with peers who’d come from private schools and posh families “back East” her working-class backwoods grit served her well. And much to her parent’s surprise, she managed to feed and clothe herself as a professional philosopher before giving up academia to become a mystery writer.
Her Jessica James Mysteries are contemporary suspense featuring a former Montana barrel racer become philosophy graduate student. Sound familiar? If James Patterson and Janet Evanovich had a love child, meet Jessica James. The Jessica James Mysteries have won the IPPY Award for BEST Mystery, The Silver Falchion Award for BEST Suspense, the Mischief and Mayhem Award for BEST Mystery, the E-Lit Award for BEST Suspense, and the New York Book Award for BEST Crime Novel.
Her cozy historical mystery series, The Fiona Figg Mysteries are set in WW1 and follow plucky file clerk turned spy Fiona Figg from London to Paris, Vienna, New York and Cairo. The first, Betrayal at Ravenswick, won a Reader's Choice Award for Historical Mystery. The second, High Treason at the Grand Hotel, was chosen by Mystery Tribune Magazine as one of the most anticipated mysteries of 2021. Mystery in Manhattan is the first in the spin-off series The Fiona Figg and Kitty Lane Mysteries, where Fiona gets a new side-kick. Arsenic at Ascot won the Silver Falchion Award for Best Historical Mystery.
Kelly is also the author of The Pet Detective Middle Grade Mysteries, including Cub Reporter, Treasure Hunter, and Geocacher. The Pet Detective Mysteries have won a Reader's Choice Award for Children's Mystery, been a finalist for a Silver Falchion Award for Children's Mystery, and won a New York Book Award for BEST Children's Book.
Kelly's latest series is The Detection Club Mysteries featuring Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers. The first in the series, The Case of the Christie Controversy, launched at #1 bestselling historical mystery. The second, The Case of the Body on the Orient Express, will be out in the fall.
When she’s not writing mysteries, Kelly is emerita Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. Kelly's nonfiction work includes over 100 articles and over twenty books, including: Hunting Girls: Sexual Violence from The Hunger Games to Campus Rape (which won a CHOICE AWARD for Outstanding Title). She has been featured on ABC news, CSPAN books, and various radio programs.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI think this book, out of the five, is the most suspenseful and intriguing of them all. For anyone who knows their history of this time period, the combination of history and fiction leaves one quite on the edge of their seat. Very well written, and the cliffhanger ending just makes us anxious for Book No. 6.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI did not enjoy the “Interlude” structure for Kitty and found the narrative too repetitive of earlier books in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLoved Murder in Moscow! So glad Fiona and Archie got together. On pins and needles when Fiona was in jail and holding my breath until she, Archie, Kitty and Clifford could escape from Moscow. Great read. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2024Format: PaperbackAh, the thrill of a historical mystery set in 20th century Russia! This book promises a fun and funny adventure, and I was so excited to dive in. As a native Russian speaker, I was eager to see how the author weaves in the nuances of the language and culture.
Fiona Figg's pursuit of her nemesis takes her to Moscow, where she finds herself in a precarious situation. I can't help but wonder what drove her to take such a risk! And Kitty Lane's efforts to help her friend lead them both into a dangerous plot to overthrow the Bolsheviks. The stakes are high, and I'm on the edge of my seat.
When Iron Viktor turns up dead, Fiona is accused of murder, and the story takes a darker turn. I was so intrigued by the twists and turns and eager to see how Fiona and Kitty will navigate this treacherous landscape.
“Murder In Moscow “ is a delightful surprise - a clever blend of humor, history, and suspense that kept me engaged from start to finish. If you're looking for a lighthearted yet thrilling escape, this is the perfect read!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis latest adventure of Fiona and Kitty takes the pair to Moscow at the start of the Russian revolution, and puts them both in great danger. Fiona has gone after her nemesis Frederick Fredericks once again but this time due to her strong attraction to him. Love the romantic elements as well as the danger. Can’t wait to read the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2024Format: KindleMoscow 1918. The early days of Soviet rule and the city is rife with intrigue, politics and desperate people trying to survive. Aristocrats and the new regime deal, clash and in some cases murder. Then come two unlikely spies, Fiona Figg, with her unholy attachment to disguises, and Kitty Lane, who will not be parted from her adorable dog. A madcap adventure, mayhem and murder ensue. Will Fiona and Kitty be able to solve the case and escape Russia before it is too late?
Fiona and Kitty are a fun bunch and good for some laughs. I also love the spirit of both women. Fiona is determined to live life on her own terms and not let society strictures stop her. That undaunted spirit gets her into plenty of trouble but, with Kitty's bit more down-to-earth personality, it also gets her out of it (well most of the time) and the job done.
Murder, a bit of romance, adventure and laughs. What more could you ask for? While you can understand what is going on without reading the books before it will paint a more full picture of the loves and circumstances of these two.
