Not My Prince Charming (Calico Cove) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,588 ratings

To: Jackson (Not My Prince Charming) Dumont

From: Lola Pappas

What did you think was going to happen when you came back to Calico Cove after being gone for years? That I would forget how you were my best friend before you became my worst enemy? Or did you want me to pretend that night at the bonfire when you humiliated me in front of everyone didn't happen?

I don’t care that you’re handsome as sin and rich AF, or even that you're pretending to worry about my family's diner - I’m not falling for your charm again.

To: Lola

From: Jackson

Please let me prove myself to you. I can still be your Prince Charming.

Author’s Note: This Cinderella retelling includes one nasty stepmom, two clueless step-sisters, a godfather with gold eye shadow, a best friend lost and found, hot action on a boat and a LOT of groveling.

With the happily ever afters all the Calico Cove books which I've read thus far have had, the many trials and tribulations the main male character, Jackson, overcame and settled he definitely became and deserved the title of her, Lola's, prince charming. This book follows their love story beginning in their childhood into their mid-twenties. The loss of parents, physical child abuse, greed, jealousy, cheating and lack of moral fiber are all covered in this book making it a serious, darker read even with its happy outcome. But it's still another interesting well written story of lives in Calico Cove. It also provides more depth as to how the lives of the main and supporting characters in this book and the main and supporting characters of the other books in the series are interconnected. Definently recommend this book.

Good book, really giving it 3.5 stars. The only complaints I had were the pacing and that there was a section that made it very obviously a Cinderella retelling.

The story was good. The characters were good. But it was fairly slow. Most of the book was the MMC being a jerk and the FMC's response to his behavior. It wasn't until about the 80% mark that they shifted their relationship. Then bam, it was done. That said, it was still a good book. It's a little longer than necessary but worth the read.

Best friends to enemies to lovers, rich boy, townie girl, emotionally charged Cinderella story. Fiercely independent heroine and alpha protector hero—so much to love in this book.

I enjoyed the characters in this going from childhood to adulthood and the changes that went on with both the main characters. The story could be of almost any couple as they grow older and their child grieves. The main characters Had a good family and the other 1 had parental abuse which is not uncommon. I found it interested in the way they dealt with it. I didn't enjoy this story and stayed up way too late to finish it.

... but ended up being a porno novel. Disappointed by that since the characters were so well-defined and I was rooting for them. I would have scored this novel higher if it weren't for that. Won't be reading other books in the series for that reason.

Ok this is the second book I’ve tread by this author. I wasn’t sure I was going to read more of her work as the first book in the series was a little choppy but this one caught my attention with the blurb and the connection they shared that was a big part of the first book so I caved lol

I really enjoyed this one a lot! Jackson turned out to be a really great guy. I love how he worked to earn her trust again.

This one was a slow sweet rebuild of their friendship intertwined with a relationship.

When the truth about who he was came out and they fought I liked how they didn’t break up over it they just worked through it right there.

They make a great couple ❤️

This book was heartbreaking. I hated how alone Lola felt and how horrible she was treated. I also hated the way Jackson was behaving. I also hated to see the end of this book because it was just that good. Now 3 things I loved about this book: 1) The humor; 2) The ages of Lola and Jackson when their story starts; and 3) The yummy steamy parts.

This book took me about 36 hours to read this time.. another lovely read. Sometimes books in these little series can be a bit too repetitive, but while there are some common themes with the first book, this second one was different enough to be interesting. I do wish it had a bit about Jolie and Mal in it though, especially since Lola and Jolie are best friends. Great read nonetheless, super keen to start the next one!

Loved Lola’s and Jackson’s story. The format of how the book was written was fantastic. Two people from different sides of the track find each other through friendship that started at a young age. Loved their story. Looking forward to reading more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Retelling of Cinderella
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 24, 2022
A great Cinderella story. It has the wicked stepmother, Tiffani with an i. Two (ugly on the inside) step sisters, Georgie the fairy godfather and a masquerade ball. Second book in the Calico Cove seies.

Lola and Jackson first meet as children. Lola is a local girl from Calico Cove who lives with her parents who own the local diner. Jackson comes from a very rich family who own the newly built hotel in Calico Cove, and spend time in their summer vacation home. Lola and Jackson spend their first summer together and quickly became best friends, however towards the end of summer an incident happens and Jackson turns on Lola which leaves her confused and heartbroken. Over several years Jackson continues to return to Calico Cove and they remain enemies. During this time Lolas mum passes away and her dad gets married again to Tiffani with an i. Her dad then passes away and leaves the diner to his new wife because he wants Lola to see the world and not be tied to the old diner. Lola, however, only wants to stay in Calico Cove and run the diner so when her stepmother puts the diner up for sale Lola needs to find the money to buy it.

This is a funny, sometimes heart breaking, story with twists and turns that keep you hooked.

My only complaint is that in the first book, Happily ever...maybe? Lola is described as Jolies best friend. They text regularly and Jolie spends time in the diner with Lola. However in this book Jolie is rarely mentioned and appear to be nothing more than acquaintances. I was looking forward to seeing more of Jolie and Mal.

Trigger warning - parents death, child abuse, bullying/humiliation.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really want to love it but....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 10, 2023
    It's well written
    It's engaging
It kept me up half the night reading. But....
The big crescendo that you know had to happen lasts for about 5 pages. It just felt a bit like the author only had so many pages and needed to wrap up quickly.
Also if you have read the first book you will know that the main characters in that book and this book are supposed to be best friends. And yet she only gets named about 3 times.
I don't mind a series but if you are going to have one story leading into another, keep the characters in it. Not just as a name check and not much else. I'm quite disappointed by it. Maybe book 3 will be better considering who is in it and the close link to this book.
