NOT MY CHILD an unputdownable psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist (Unputdownable Psychological Thrillers) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 865 ratings

A FAMILY BUILT ON LIES.

Looking out at my dead wife’s family in the pews, I know I’m meant to read the eulogy that’s tucked into my pocket. The one that tells a story of the life I built with my wonderful wife before she was tragically killed in a hit-and-run.

But I decide to tell the truth. ‘
I was married to two women. One I knew. And one I didn’t.’ Shocked murmurs echo around the church.

My wife left me a letter. She told me to destroy it once I’d read it and not reveal its contents to anyone.

I grip the pulpit, my knuckles white. I see our two beautiful children sitting with their grandparents. ‘
You might think me disloyal for going against Tara’s wishes, but I’ve decided to share this letter anyway.’

Starting with lie number one.’

EVERYTHING YOU THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS FAMILY IS ABOUT TO BE TURNED UPSIDE DOWN.

AN EXHILARATING PSYCHOLOGICAL SUSPENSE WITH TWISTS THAT WILL LEAVE YOU BREATHLESS.

This shocking story about the lies we tell those closest to us is perfect for fans of Frieda McFadden, Daniel Hurst, Patricia MacDonald, Shalini Boland, T.M. Logan and Clare Mackintosh.

Best selling author, Jane E James creates chilling reads that appeal to fans of psychological thrillers, mysteries and dark fiction. Jane loves to weave tense and haunting tales that stay in the reader's mind. All her books are standalone novels.

Jane started out as a scriptwriter but soon switched back to her love of writing novels and couldn't be happier. A life in the city just wasn't for her.

When she isn't writing (or reading) Jane enjoys living ‘the good life’ in the Rutland countryside, in a small village close to the town of Stamford, Lincolnshire in the UK; known for its quirky tea shops and cobbled streets.

An animal lover, who believes 'all life is precious' Jane is a vegan and an animal rights advocate. Jane lives with her flat-faced, big-bellied cat, Hero, who rescued her at a time when she needed it most.

Although born in Cambridgeshire, she is half Welsh and hopes, one day, to retire to the mountains of South Wales, where she feels closest to her late mother, whose maiden name 'James' is where Jane gets her pen name from. Once there, she plans to adopt and rescue all kinds of animals including donkeys, sheep, chickens and goats.

Rebecca, Carrie, The Woman in Black and Wuthering Heights are among some of Jane's favourite reads.

I loved the plot, initially. I hated the characters. I felt such empathy for Tara, although I couldn’t begin to imagine growing up in such a dysfunctional family. I disliked Dino without quite knowing why, I disliked his mother and his weak father.
It feels like justice was not served and the Da Rosa family, including Ryan got away with murder. Tara died in vain. The end of the story was a huge disappointment. Perhaps there’s a book two waiting to emerge from the mind of the author.

I really quite liked this book. I liked Dino and Tara. The ending definitely surprised me. Especially the last page. lol. It's a very serious subject; in my opinion, Ms James did a good job with it. I'll read more from her...

A girl suffers from rape at a young age, ends up pregnant and gives her baby up for adoption. She goes on to make a decent life for herself when her child shows up 18 years later. Tara ends up dead and secrets are revealed to her husband, but turns out he's just as involved in her history.

All the twists and turns had my head spinning (IN A GOOD WAY!)

Seriously, I finished this book in 3 days, I just couldn’t stop reading. It’s beautifully written and while there are dark themes, they are imperative to the story and are brought up in a way that only engages the reader more and brings light to some very real and very heavy situations that so many people unfortunately face in their lifetime and in such a touching way.

Highly recommend!

First, this book doesn't really pick up until after the halfway point. I often found myself skimming through the pages to get to the end. When the book ended, it just ended, and there should have been more once the family found out about Ryan. I also did not like the way Dino's mom was so quick to suggest and convince Dino to deny paternity.

Second, it didn't take long to figure out who was who in this book, i.e., Dino, Brianna, and who was driving the car that hit Tara.

Third, I had high hopes for this book, but it fell way short. Maybe I'll try this author again in the future and be wowed because this wasn't the wow I was expecting.

Lastly, I read this book on my kindle and it ended at 90%. The remaining 10% was a waste of space.

This book was billed as having a big twist.....I just finished it and there were twists and turns everywhere. A very solid must read book about regular people dealing with life's curves that it throws at you and how you handle them. The ending was a shock. I wasn't ready for it to end..there's so much more that could have been written maybe just because I wanted more.

Tara wishes all through her life for her long lost child to find her. Her sweet baby she gave up for adoption so long ago. But what would happen if that day finally came? Would they accept this newcomer into the family? Would the child hold residual anger for her giving them up all those years ago?

In this book you get to meet Tara, her husband and a couple other key players into this whole mystery. This book sets you on a journey to find the truth and to see what happens when the dark side of those truths shows it’s face.

Was never really sure where this was going. Very good suspense. Even though you "know" the ending, you don't really until you get there.

The story of Dino and Tara has been woven beautifully with so many heartbreaking moments along with a love story that ended too soon. I was also surprised at the ending, not what I was expecting, but probably more truthful.
