Not My Match (The Game Changers Book 2) Kindle Edition
Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills delivers a smart and sexy romance about a professional football hottie and the girl he’s sworn to never touch.
Homeless and heartbreakingly innocent, Giselle Riley walks into my penthouse and chaos follows.
I shouldn’t have invited the girl genius to live with me, but it’s clear she needs my help—not only for a place to lay her pretty blonde head but in finding real love, which she’s not going to get with the crazy men she picks up online.
Too bad she’s a twenty-four-year-old virgin and I’m a bad boy wide receiver. She’s off limits for a hardcore player like me—and we’re just friends.
Instead, I’m her matchmaking service, no matter how jealous it makes me when I tag along on her dates.
I can keep my self-control. Right? No way will I give in to everything inside me that dreams of a girl like her in my world.
I may be the best wide receiver in the country, but how could I hold on to a girl like her?

I absolutely adored this book!!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2021This took a little while to grow on me, but once it did, I was LOVING it. I love an adorably unsure alpha who is in over his head, and that’s exactly what happens with Devon. It’s sweet and swoony with a slow burn that turns scorching later on, making this a read that will put you through a range of emotions. Personally, I think this reads better if you pretend the first book in the series never happened, because the author wrote herself into a bit of a corner with that one. This only stumbles when it’s referencing things that happened prior to the start of this book, and they’re largely irrelevant to this love story. Devon stole my heart from the beginning, and Giselle won me over by the end.
The story follows Devon, a pro football player who is used to people leaving him. He avoids emotional entanglements and prefers to keep things casual, but there’s one (very off-limits) woman who has intrigued him recently. Giselle is one of a kind - she’s a science nerd, a highly intelligent yet slightly naive woman, and... is a little desperate to turn in her v-card. Giselle is convinced that the sexy athlete has placed her in the friend zone (or at least the off-limits zone), so she’s looking elsewhere. But when they become unexpected roommates, everything changes.
I love this author’s work, but the first book in this series was not really a winner for me - and it also doesn’t paint the best picture of Giselle. So I know that a lot of fans are hesitant going into this love story, but (thankfully) it’s easy to ignore the events of the first book once the setup is out of the way. That’s probably why this took a little longer to hook me in, but once I got into it, there was no turning back. I loved the vulnerable moments between these two and the slow, delicious burn. The emotional connection is the centerpiece here, and it really shines towards the end. There’s fantastic chemistry and banter throughout, but the back half is what earns this 5 stars. The characters are complex, with real, relatable issues, and anyone who loves a marshmallow-hearted alpha will fall for Devon. I received an early copy via NetGalley (then purchased it for my collection), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sexy, slow burn romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2021Another game changer from the queen herself, Ilsa Madden-Mills! Loving this series so far. Not My Match is the second standalone novel from The Game Changers series which tells us a charming story between Devon and Giselle, Jack's best friend and Elena's sister from Not My Romeo.
This book was an absolute treat! I love both Devon and Giselle! Though, I admit I'm not the biggest fan of Giselle in the first book because of her actions back then but she was a darling in this book. How can you not like her? She was funny, smart and full of drive! On the other hand, we have Devon who's a total charmer! I like him so much! His reluctance to start a serious relationship made sense given his abandonment issue and I'm just glad he managed to find way to trust again. Devon and Giselle's chemistry was right off the bat and I can't help but laugh and swoon at their banters. The sexual tension added spice to their story because you never know when they'll act on it.
The premise of the story was good, it got me invested all the way to the end. But its frustrating to see a drama unfolding when it only have 15 pages left in the book. It felt like there's so much more that needs to be said and done but there's only a few pages left. Although its HEA, I feel like the ending wasn't properly conveyed. Giselle's decision was a little disappointing and the pregnant scare was a weak push in making her decision. Nevertheless, I liked this book. It was an entertaining read. Please tell me Aiden's story is next in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2021So I’m going to be real. When I saw this book was about Giselle I was a little less excited, because I didn’t know if I could get over Giselle from Jack and Elena’s book. But I am so glad that I took a deep breath and dove into this one, because I’d like to shout from the mountains that I love Giselle. As someone who would never remotely try and explain how the inside of my mind works to anyone else for fear that they would think I was absolutely insane. I relate to Giselle on SO many levels. As far as multiple alternate universes in her head, yep. I too have one featuring Chris Hemsworth, but that’s not the point here. Needless to say that I went from feeling unsure about Giselle to being willing to call her one of my favorite heroines. Did she create some of her own problems? Sure, but we’re all guilty of that sometimes and she felt real. I love how she cares about her students and she’s not afraid to stand up for herself even when she’s nervous. Giselle advocating for herself makes me want to stand up and applaud. She's got such a big heart and she cares about everyone around her, the way she treated her neighbor made me love her more. Not to mention that getting to see Giselle and Elena interact with each other and seeing the growth of their relationship.
I could go on about her all day, but that is not to discount how great Devon is, but I went in from Jack and Elena’s book knowing I loved him, so it was less of a surprise how much I loved him. He was every bit the fun-loving, great guy he was in the first book, but more. I loved seeing what made Devon the guy he is and getting to see him grow. Seeing his relationship with his father and how he grew up, not to mention his relationship with Jack, Lawrence, and Aiden. He's a good guy from the outside in and the way he welcomes Giselle into his home without question even when she has Pookie with her.
As a pairing though they really jumped off the page as me. They balance each other out and their quirks work together. He has no problem peeling back his layers to let Giselle in and seeing the two of them as roommates was great. I loved the easy dynamic between the two of them. A couple that can laugh and has a good time together is always a favorite of mine. I mean the tension and sexy times are great, but give me a couple who can laugh together and I’m gonna ship them! I loved this book. It is quirky and fun and you can’t help but want to see these two score their very own happily ever after. I was excited for the follow up to Not My Romeo and this blew me out of the water with how much I enjoyed it. These two are an amazing match and it is one of those books that I can’t wait to read again!

5.0 out of 5 stars ✨✨✨✨✨
I read a review that said the plot of ‘Not My Match’ was (in a round about way) too generic. Understandable in the land of romance.. What they failed to say was although the BASIC plot line was a well used plot line in the Romance universe (Boy meets girl, girl and boy have “zing”, said “zing” intensifies, plot twist occurs, love conquers all. Cool basic), the EXECUTION of the plot in ‘Not My Match’ was absolutely E-P-I-C!!! Add a little bit of Ilsa Madden-Mills and you will have some angst, laughter, quirky-ness, well researched back stories, v v v spicy reads and a loveable heroine and swoon worthy alpha ready for your consumption. I love Devon with my whole being and as much as I loathed Giselle in ‘Not My Romeo’ they are now one of my favourite couples in the Madden-Mills Multiverse. READ THIS, ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh I loved it sooooo much
This story was sooooo much fun to read - I loved the characters, I loved the storyline, I loved to laugh with them. But most important I loved the question about what is really important in life and if there is someone out there for you who will change your universes for you - and everything you thought you knew and wanted to achieve becomes less important.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!! PART 2
Well, It's as amazing as the first book!!!! Read it, read them both ("not my romeo" and "not my match") because they'll surprise you and you're gonna love them as much as I do! Beautiful love story between Giselle and Devon and beautiful ending. Even for this book, 5 stars are not enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy and Dramatic Romance
In “Not My Match”, Ilsa Madden-Mills creates two characters who seem like opposites but their attraction is off-the-charts, in any universe.
What you need to know about “Not My Match”:
✔ Steamy Slow Burn
✔ Forced proximity
✔ Complete stand-alone
✔ Opposites Attract
✔ Hot cocky football player, 28
✔ Smart theoretical physics PhD student, 24
✔ Friends-to-lovers
✔ Game Changers #2
In the follow-up to “Not My Romeo”, Giselle is on a disastrous dating app meet-up at Devon’s club, Razor. In an attempt to get away from her terrible date, she gets hurt. Devon helps her out but Giselle discovers that her new brother-in-law, Jack, has told the entire football team including Devon that she is “off limits”. Jack also told Devon another piece of highly personal information about Giselle that greatly embarrasses her.
After Giselle’s apartment building catches fire, Devon takes her in and they develop a friendship. They try to make rules to keep their hands off one another as their attraction is off the charts and very, very obvious. I loved these characters! They are so well developed, compelling, slightly damaged and loveable.
In “Not My Romeo”, Giselle is basically a foil for Elena, acting as a boyfriend-stealing sister. In “Not My Match” she is a fully realized character with a crazy and slightly sad history of bad luck birthdays and men who have treated her poorly starting from the age of fifteen. She has a passion for theoretical physics, an eidetic memory and is secretly writing a sci-fi romance.
Devon is more than football and his smooth-talking ways. He’s been caring for his alcoholic father for years. Every woman he’s ever cared for has left him. And Giselle has always dreamed of going to work at CERN...he’s afraid that she will leave him too.
As Giselle shares the stories of her bad luck birthdays and Devon lets her know more about his life, their bond grows deeper and their attraction for each other crackles through all of their shared adventures, just barely held back as they live together. The steam levels are high and hot when they finally give in to their attraction.
I loved their talk of multiverses (as Giselle is a theoretical physicist and is writing a sci-fi romance). “You are the best person in all my universes.” - Giselle to Devon -
They may seem like opposites at first glance and they also may seem to have goals diametrically opposed to a happy ever after but this leads the reader to experience some angst and swoony romance. You’ll have to read “Not My Match” to find out what happens.
WRITING STYLE: 5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars un libro inolvidable
Ame el libro de principio a fin. No hay nada que no me haya gustado de los protagonistas. La personalidad divertida de Giselle y su gran inteligencia, y la perfección que es Devon.
Definitivamente es una historia que permanecerá conmigo un buen tiempo
