A Novel Holiday Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 172 ratings

When I first met Will Darcy at a charity gala, he started out as the hot guy who ran into me as I came out of the ladies’ room; however, by the end of the evening, he was certainly not my Prince Charming! For that matter, I doubt he could be considered anyone’s ideal man. My friend Char calls him a “tosser,” but I have a few more interesting names for him, all NSFW of course. The problem is that since the gala, I keep having to spend time with him. For one thing, he’s the older brother of Gigi, who comes into my bakery and café multiple times a week. He’s also the CEO of Pemberley Books, who desperately wants to take over the bookstore I recently inherited from my uncle—not that I’m going to let that happen! What can I say? I’d be happier if I could just avoid the man altogether!

She introduced herself as “Liz,” but how was I supposed to know “Liz” was actually Elizabeth Bennet, the new owner of Novel Books? I’ve wanted to buy that bookstore since I became head of my father’s company, but I never realized the name I’d only ever seen on paper was, in reality, this ebony-haired beauty. Now, I can’t stop thinking about her. I ordered a cake from Liz’s bakery for Gigi’s party, and since, I can’t seem to stay away from the woman. Liz drives me absolutely crazy, but I can’t get involved with her, can I? She and my sister get along like gangbusters, and I’ve never met anyone who intrigues me like Liz does, but is that enough? If I were to take a chance on her, I’d also have to give up on acquiring Novel Books. I just need to come up with the answer to one question: Is Elizabeth Bennet worth it?

Excellent original romance between our dear couple in a modern setting. Enjoyed the different take on the despicable characters. Lots of lovely tension and the majority of the story consists of Liz and Will time. And for the big win, super mega happy ending! Loved it!

“A Novel Holiday” by L.L. Diamond is a truly delightful modern variation of “Pride and Prejudice”. Lizzy Bennet owns a successful bookstore and cafe. William Darcy is a competitor that would love to own Lizzy’s business, but after meeting her, he desires her more.

I loved several things about this book. First, Lizzy is a successful businesswoman. Second, there are several steamy scenes which are never gratuitous or vulgar. Third, the friendships and family relationships all feel realistic. Fourth, the relationship between William and Lizzy grows appropriately. I never felt like things moved too quickly. Finally, Lizzy is known as a wonderful baker, and her creations seem amazing. My mouth watered at the description of some of them. I desperately wish to visit my favorite local baker. There is more, but listing them would require spoilers.

If you enjoy moderns, or wish to take a break from the slew of regencies out there, I highly recommend “A Novel Holiday”.

I borrowed this via KU and volunteered to leave a review. This was an amazing story. I loved it. I keep telling Diamond I don’t like modern stories and she keeps writing ones I can’t resist. I adored this story and the character Zio, who loved his niece, Elizabeth. OMG! I want an Uncle Zio. I gained 10 pounds just reading the descriptions of the fabulous dessert creations featured at Elizabeth café. The relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth was scorching hot. I could hardly hold onto my E-reader, seriously. ICNPID and read into the early morning hours.

I hope that Leslie Diamond will make a modern day Darcy and Elizabeth story an annual holiday event. Last Christmas she gave us a delightful story titled, Catching Lizzy (read it if you have not already). A Novel Holiday hits all the right notes, with a couple of nods to the 1800s, Wickham (a little, not too much), a dark Caroline (not too much), Cruella deBourgh and the Bennet parents along with Jane who take a nasty turn.
This is an all around good read, just like frosting on the cake.

Another absolutely wonderful, emotionally gripping and fantastic variation inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by the talented L. L. Diamond. She’s one of my favorite authors and her books are an instant purchase. Once you start one of her books you will not stop until the end. I love her books.

Most of the plot developments are described rather than dramatized. The Liz/Will romance is rather one-note.

I liked the setting and the changes in the personalities of the characters to fit the time frame. I found the concept of Elizabeth growing up without the support of her family or her older sister interesting and zio Luca adorable.

5.0 out of 5 stars I do love me some modern JAFF!
Reviewed in Canada on December 1, 2024
L.L. Diamond entertains once more with A Novel Holiday, a full-length, modern JAFF romance novel that’s clever and well paced. Mainly set between Halloween and New Year’s, this book is the perfect seasonal read—full of rich character development, great dialogue, and just the right mix of romance and drama.

The story opens with a prologue: Elizabeth Bennet is living in New York City with her beloved uncle, Zio, who has been the main guiding force in her life—more so than her actual parents. She’s estranged from her family—except for Mary. After earning her MBA—more to please her father than herself—Zio sends Elizabeth to England to pursue her true dream of becoming a baker and café owner. Some years later, she has fulfilled that dream, but it comes with bittersweet emotions. My heart broke for her early on.

Enter Fitzwilliam Darcy, the CEO of Pemberley Books, a rival company that has been keen on acquiring Novel Books. Zio never wanted to sell, and Elizabeth has no intention of going against his wishes. Their first meeting shows promise of a connection, but Darcy being Darcy, quickly ruins things with an ill-judged remark that Lizzy overhears. The classic Pride and Prejudice misunderstanding trope is alive and well here, and it works beautifully.

I loved the career choices in this story—Elizabeth as a double business owner and Darcy as the CEO of a book company. Both feel fresh yet grounded; their professional lives are well integrated into the plot, especially Lizzy’s. The tension between them is well done, and when things heat up, the steamy bits are tastefully written. The supporting characters, Richard Fitzwilliam, Georgiana Darcy, and Charlotte Lui and Annie de Bourgh as a couple, makes the story feel truly inclusive. The plot takes a darker turn late in the story with a touch of added mystery and tension when Elizabeth feels threatened by some unexpected trouble.

This story also includes a ‘mean Jane’ trope—she and Elizabeth are not friends, and Jane is not her usual sweet self. Charles Bingley, Darcy’s legal counsel, perfectly plays his role as a love-blind useful idiot. I found the dark humour in a trait Ms Diamond assigns to Caroline Bingley in this book particularly diverting. While these secondary characters appear minimally, their actions are well-placed and relevant.

What stood out to me most were the character portrayals and the dialogue, the latter flowing naturally and keeping the story moving. Every scene feels purposeful, and the pacing is spot-on from start to finish; nothing drags and attention is never lost. Combined with its festive settings, A Novel Holiday is a thoroughly pleasing and timely read, but can also be enjoyed any time of year! The cover is delightfully whimsical, highlighting Lizzy’s career choice.

I highly recommend this one, especially if you’re looking for a contemporary romance with a lot of heart. L.L. Diamond remains a favourite author for a reason, and this book is just further proof of her amazing talent. I’m hoping an audiobook will also be forthcoming.

    Mature, adult content.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. You’ll really love this one. I also purchased the published version for my Kindle library.

I totally loved this. Instant attraction between Darcy and Elizabeth, until they find out who they are and Darcy insults her! Of course Elizabeth lets this completely influence her feelings for him despite friends opinions! 😱 I’m not a fan of spoilers so I won’t say more except that ending ❤️ Darcy’s words to Elizabeth (swoon) This is so definitely recommended and one for my reread list 🥰🥰🥰
