Omega Reclaimed (Omega Reimagined Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 269 ratings

"Of course I smelled him—smelled him and was drawn to him. Rich, ripe, male omega—not far away and well into his heat. Unsatisfied heat. I laughed, realizing that in this moment, at least, the omega was the boss of the alpha. I needed to help him."

Angel, an alpha who's left the violent, strictly hierarchical rules of his pack to find success in the big city, and Leo, an omega on the run from his abusive alpha, are thrust together to satisfy Leo’s urgent heat-lust. But can a once-hurt omega ever trust an alpha to care for and protect him again? And can an alpha sensitive to social injustice learn to enjoy his naturally dominant nature?

Angel and Leo must both face the pasts they ran away from before the two can build a new future together. They may not be able to change the laws of nature, but they can change the language of love.

Omega Reclaimed is a MM alpha/omega shapeshifter novella.

Content warning: this book includes references to past physical abuse and a description of suicide. This is not an MPREG universe. None of the Omega Reimagined stories include MPREG

This was a great mix of a book, there was a good blend of sexiness and seriousness with great characters. Angel is a protective and progressive alpha who wants to help an unknown omega who is suffering in heat. Leo is an omega who has fled from a truly abusive relationship and doesn't want to need or rely on an alpha but needs one in his condition. But one time grows into a different kind of relationship. I liked and thought it was realistic that each man had a piece of the past that he was ashamed of and/or running from. The reasons for Angel's departure from his pack are particularly dark and I was quite sad and moved by the story there. In this world their are many opportunities for omegas to be abused, shamed, treated like property. Imagine a world before women's rights and this is the world that has driven the two into the human world. But there are complications in their lives and relationship that take them back to pack lands and their pasts. I was surprised several times in the story--it wasn't what you might think from the blurb, not straightforward or a simple claiming/fated mates story. The story has all the insane "in heat" hotness without being an mpreg world. The sexual dynamic between the two was great (not BDSM stuff but a little toppy alpha/omega role-playing). The ending was very satisfying and left a lot of hope for the future in this world and their relationship definitely HEA (but in surprising way). I hope to see the author do more paranormal things in the future.

What a book! Alphas, omegas, and betas oh my! And I LOVE how the Omega is pretty much the hero in this book. Love it. Omegas get overlooked because they are considered weaker but they are definitely the stronger ones having to put up with everyone’s crap. And most often having the babies as well!!

Angel was in heaven. The scent of the Omega was surrounding him and putting he and his wolf in overdrive. To the point, he couldn’t ignore it. Something is off about this little Omega. He can smell it. He does all he can to help without knotting him. He almost makes it, but an alpha can only last so long. He finally gives Leo the relief he needs, but realizes Leo has already been claimed. And Angel doesn’t want a mate. But as time goes on, Leo’s heats aren’t getting better. They’re getting worse. And both have to travel to each other’s packs in order to fix what’s wrong. But the past has a way of rearing its ugly head. And as much as Angel wants equal rights for ALL omegas, quite a few shifters don’t. And they may not make it out alive.

I just adore these two. And this story. I love that Angel is an alpha with morals and a conscious. He thinks everyone should be equals. Omegas should be treated with respect, not as punching bags or as lessers. I love how gentle he is with Leo. And how he makes sure he consent before he does anything, in case Leo doesn’t want it. He’s what an alpha should be like.

Leo is an amazing Omega in his own right. Being messed up with the heats he’s having is leaving him in a state, but when in his right mind, he’s formidable. Just like it should be. And what he does at the end, oh yeah. Omegas shouldn’t ever be underestimated. Ever. Even when beaten to their lowest, they survive any way they know how.

This is a great start to this series. I’m so ready to delve into the next book and see where this goes. I know where I hope it does lol.

This is a 5-star story, not your typical alpha/omega tale, which was a big plus. Well written, near perfect pacing and stellar editing. The ending surprised me, and not in a good way. This Omega was rewarded with a HEA for his bad behavior while his first Alpha paid the ultimate price for his. Leo used his first Alpha Bruce's nature against him for his own selfish reasons, then ran when the situation turned violent. I'm okay with that, except he turned right around and manipulated Alpha Angel the same way! And yet again, consequences detrimental to his health. The resolution to his predicament was awful and I can't condone such behavior, even for a character in a book. To appease my morality I had to take away 2 stars. Again, excellent story although an alternate ending would be better.

The story is not typical. Leo is an omega who's not afraid to go for what he desires (even though he's been burned before). Angel's the alpha who's reluctant to form a bond with an omega but they found themselves drawn to each other repeatedly. The story is well written and kept my interest throughout.

The two MCs fit each other well and I think they are on their way to a HEA.

A bit of spoiler and a side comment:

A 16 year old may have sought out his first experience but to get roped into a permanent bond in which the partner was clearly abusive (breaking bones repeatedly) was not an experience needed for a life time. The solution in the end does feel extreme but does point out problems inherent in the society the characters lived in.

While Omega-verse shifter romances are generally super hot, they are also generally rife with problems, not least how the rigid power imbalance of the OV is never questioned -- it's presented as inescapable, and all you can do is try to be lucky and evade the worst downsides of it.
This is where Tanya Chris defies expectations. I originally picked this not because I'm very fond of ABO stories, but because I wanted to see how she handled it. And don't get me wrong -- the rigid power imbalance is still there, but at least it's being questioned, and the A/O pair are trying to find a sensible and respectful way around an old, unwanted claim without forcing the other into the same trap. The conclusion is very satisfying and manages to subvert some of the O-verse tropes, albeit none of the systemic ones .
    Excellent, beautiful writing.

Although in an alternative, paranormal, m/m world, the basic reality of physical abuse and dominant versus submissive manipulation is brought out in full. The protagonists question their own as well as their cultural background's feelings and traditions, and try to change what is damaging while still accepting personal needs and preferences.

Tanya Chris has done something I haven't seen done well in many a/b/o books which is address the inequalities without getting overly political and losing the steamy oomph factor. I appreciate that the MC's weren't perfect, though I would have loved to read a little more of the mental growth towards the end. It's implied in the character's decisions but the shift from "I'm terrified of my old Alpha" to "yeah I can challenge and kill him" didn't feel fleshed out enough.
Having said that, that's my only complaint with this book. The hotness was omg yes and it's fantastic to find an omega series without mpreg.
I originally read this through KU but I'm about to buy it because this is definitely a read and read again for me.

Great non preg shifter novella. When they were running in their wolf forms and shifting between their wolf and human forms I loved the rawness and literal dirtyness of it. Very real. Because real wolves wouldn't care if they were getting dirty and smelled of sex and sweat. They also cleaned wounds with their tongue and not finding a river or water. Nice real touch. I enjoyed the way their relationship grew and they realised they loved each other.

I love a protective alpha and a strong omega.

Navigating the ABO waters can be difficult sometimes if you want to avoid the mpreg trope and I'm so happy this series has none of that.

But you will get knotting, lots and lots of knotting, and it is glorious.

2.0 out of 5 stars pretty standard omegaverse story
Reviewed in Germany on October 13, 2020
    Format: KindleVerified Purchase
I have good associations with Tanya Chris's books in my head so I figured I'd give this one a chanceand see how she executes omegaverse, but turns out it was rather standart to the "genre". Meaning lots of oppressions and recycled misogyny, lots of "we are wired that way bc of our biology!!!" and questionable consent, though it does acknowledge most of these issues and it actually features the characters working against them, which I appreciated.
Ultimately it didn't go far enough in that direction for me though, and there was enough sex for this to feature most heavily in the erotica direction. I overall didn't like the world, but the worldbuilding was there, a lot more than other omegaverse stories do.

Content warnings include: omegaverse (no mpreg), systemic oppression, questionable consent, partially negotiated mild BDSM (rough sex, mild D/s and humiliation/dirty talk), statutory rape, abuse, what amounts to forced marriage.
