One Night at Finn's (Finn's Pub Romance Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,567 ratings

**A standalone romance from the Finn Factor World of New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author R.G. Alexander.**

Ever been on a bad date? Hold my beer…

My dry spell isn’t voluntary. It just happened. Or didn’t happen. And then... it didn’t happen some more.

I’m not saying I’m looking for perfection, but is hot, sweaty sex with a genuinely decent guy too much to ask?

When I meet the much older and newly retired Master Sergeant Carter Willis, he definitely fits my criteria. But after he rescues me from the worst of my dating mistakes, I can’t tell if he’s watching my back to protect it, or because he likes what he sees.

Giving romance tips to strangers is easy. This feeling I get when Carter is around is making life complicated. It feels like a thing. A forever type thing.

And if there’s one thing that scares me more than my accidental abstinence becoming a permanent condition… It’s trusting in forever.

I absolutely love the Finn family universe and this offshoot series with friends of the Finns is so much fun! I really enjoy reading first person pov and hearing JD and Carter’s journey to their HEA from JD is amazing. R.G. Alexander is able to bring so much humor, emotion, heat, and heart to her characters and stories. And I’m loving JD’s family with his foster parents and nine brothers! I want all their stories!

Upon occasion I take it upon myself to combine reviews for a short series into one basic review. I do this for a lot of reasons, but in the case of this series, there are several reasons.

The first is that each book has a dominant character that you would not expect to be so, and is openly gay. In the first book it's 40-plus ex-Marine Carter, in the second it's late 20ish but still a virgin Miller, and the third it's serious rich and successful and recently dumped millionaire Joey. Oh, BTW, Joey is one of nine stepbrothers, all the same age (read the first book) of JD Green, the mid-20s gay virgin advice columnist whose life is transformed by that Marine, whom he has nicknamed Zeus.

The second reason is that the plots are basically the same, although the way they unfold is completely different. By that I mean you have some intense flirting by all concerned before the clothes come off, but every plotline sticks basically to the previous one until the HEAs.

The third reason is that even though the pairings are probably more rooted in fantasy than reality, the three couples who emerge do so with decency and integrity. Even the one whose 180-degree flip-flop I had difficulty swallowing at first (i.e., Brendan in the second book), had some redeeming value. But he did not hold a candle to Elliot the previously straight baseball player in the third book whose story was a bit convoluted on several levels but viable eventually.

No matter. All were decent reads, and if you did not read the previous series "The Finn Factor" (which I did not read) you might be a little lost in the beginning of the first book, but you'll be OK by the time you get rolling.

    No cliffhanger
    Standalone
    Told from JD's POV only
    Minor editing issues

I was excited to see another book from this author come out. Even if it isn't one of my favorite Finn's I knew it would still be good. I love that the author was able to spin off a one-off book that still had a touch of our favorite characters in it, while also setting up future Finn fun!

JD is a columnist who is know for his "Dry Spell Diaries" where he talks about all the horrible date he has been on and how they never work out. One night while he is on one of those horrible dates he sees a man that changes his life forever. After meeting Carter (aka hot Marine man) JDs life changes in more ways than one. When JD is down for the count Carter jumps in to help him put the pieces back together again.

While this book is on the shorter side I still loved it. I thought the banter was great, it was super steamy, and had just the right touch of drama to keep things interesting.

    5 / 5 Stars

There should be a 10-star rating because this book totally deserves it! I absolutely loved it. Since I'm fairly new to The Finn Factor series, I haven't read all the book yet but I'll definitely do now.

The story is full of laughs and jokes and a little dose of family-drama, which is expected in the Finn family, although JD is more like an adopted cousin, cute and noisy. The banter was fantastic, the humor was there along the way and the plot never became too heavy. The characters were fun, lovable, the chemitry was delicious and the sexy times were hot as hell (!). Like I said, the drama is barely there and only at the the right time to spice up the plot.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a side story or turn it into a series but I'm hoping for the latter. I'm loving her books!

I’ve read most of the Finn family stories. They are undoubtedly some of the hottest M/M romances ever! This “new” series explores some peripheral characters from the Finn Factor universe.
This one is about JD Green, a 26yo relationship advise columnist for an emagazine, who is currently going through a draught in his love life. As a columnist he’s parlayed it into several much-read articles about his lack of a love-life. While at Finn’s one night in walks “across a crowded room” “Big Daddy Zeus” who in actuality is Master Sgt Carter Willis, big, buff and much older than JD. He finds out that Carter is actually 43yo and maybe interested…
JD's internal dialogue is hilarious and in many cases contrary to what he says in quotes. Funny and poignant. What happens next to these two is amazing and so much underlying angst is revealed. Loved this story of insta-lust, love and companionship. Before this book is over you’ll be rooting for this couple just like I was. How about that cover!!!!!!!!!
Now I want to read BREATHLESS (THE FINN FACTOR BOOK 11) about Wyatt, Fiona and Thoreau. Already excited…

i liked this book. the main characters were likable, and the pace of the story was good. my main reservation was the excessive inner monologue. sometimes it took you out of the story. and i'm not quite sure JD's reaction to his feelings for Carter, by running away for 9 days, was all that believable. but, still better than many of the m/m books i've read.
  • Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2017
This book had me truly laughing out loud and falling head over heels for JD Green right from the start. The Finn's are a great bunch, and their series is excellent. But JD? Such a wonderful character. Full of heart, kind, very intelligent, but with the youthfull humor of a youngster and the depth of a wise adult. Endearingly insecure. Any character that can work South Pacific, Star Wars, Greek Mythology, Superman and Drew Barrymore into their repertoire is just plain outstanding in my book.
Carter is the perfect balance to our JD and helps bring everything together for a glorious HEA.
Treat yourself to some smiles, some heart tugs, some sizzling hot passion, and one satisfying read.

5.0 out of 5 stars R.G Alexander has done it again. One night at Finn's was such a great book.

R.G Alexander has done it again. One night at Finn's was such a great book. Some great Finn cameos but the focus rightly so was on Carter the retired Marine instructor and JD the romance columnist, neither man is a Finn, though they're both friends with the members of the family. They're two men separated by 17 years of life and from vastly different worlds. After yet another failed date JD laments ever losing his dry-spell and walks headlong into the world of the sex-god marine, he affectionately nicknames Zeus. What follows is scorching hot sexy times, and just enough angst to drive the plot but not have you reaching for the kleenex. Fast paced and well written told 1st POV from JD's perspective, R.G. Alexanders superb handling of JD's witty monologue made this installment of the Finn factor so delicious. So, so good, can't wait for Solomon's story which is due out soon. Do yourself a favour and read the series if you haven't already your seriously missing out.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Finn's = Love
Reviewed in Canada on November 18, 2017
This is a great addition to the Finn Factor series. Although the main characters are not members of the Finn clan, they do meet in the Finn's Pub. In fact, one of them is a friend of Brady Finn.

JD is a love advice columnist who happens to be on a date in the pub when things go awry. He gets himself into some trouble and Carter, Brady's friend comes to his rescue.

Their relationship has its ups and downs and they both get love advice from one than one of the Finn family, and from JDs foster family, that includes mom, dad and nine foster brothers. Add to that one feisty little bartender, Fiona, and the laughs never end.

A great addition to a wonderful series. Can't wait to see what or who happens next.

Absolutely fell in love with this story. Loved JD and the way the author told his story had me captivated. Carter was the perfect match for JD and between the two of them well I couldn’t help but want the perfect ending for them. Absolutely love the Finn family but the extended family of JD were priceless. Loved this book and won’t be deleting in a hurry, it’s a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finnシリーズ知らない人でも読めます
Reviewed in Japan on October 9, 2017
