I started reading this someplace else but when I found it on Amazon I was quickly excited to get my hands on it again.. The world building is superb and the author pulls you in with out you even knowing. Definitely recommend reading this series!

This is a shameless power fantasy, but that’s part of the charm! Jake, the main character, is an antihero recklessly soloing himself towards godhood over a mountain of corpses. He becomes powerful early on and you will just have to accept his plot armor for dominating in combat. On the other hand, his people skills and management abilities are trash, so it kind of evens out.

The formula is fairly standard for the genre. Jake finds himself, along with everyone else on earth, thrown into a System Apocalypse. The scenario is complete with menus, stats, and leveling, along with new dangers to face and opportunities to unlock. Though he starts off as a simple office worker, Jake soon uncovers hidden talents for survival that push him ahead of the curve. The fights are very descriptive and the world building is creative. And while the plot is mostly slice of life progression, Jake’s journey is filled with discoveries to keep things interesting.

For fans of LitRPG, the system is also pretty crunchy. The author does a great job of keeping track of everything and conveying growth via the various system numbers and descriptions. As with all books in this genre though, the repetition of system information borders on becoming filler. If readers don’t find this information interesting or useful, it’s easy enough to ignore and skim past.

For criticisms, there’s little in the way of plot and character development. In particular, the author takes his sweet time providing any explanation for Jake’s homicidal behavior. There’s also a few random POV shifts throw in, with some side characters getting more fleshed out than the main character. Grammar can also vary in quality, as English is not the author’s native language. That’s not to say the writing is bad. It is highly readable and looks to have been polished for this release.

Finally, it should be noted that this book is part of a massive web serial on RoyalRoad. I read these chapters there for free, but bought the book to show support. The writing is a bit rough around the edges, but the author is prolific and consistent with almost daily updates. There’s still a huge amount of the story to read on the website, so definitely check it out before all the chapters are removed.

I've read similar litRPG books and this one had a familiar feel. I liked the protagonist and their motivations and even a few of the villains the authors created. Great work.

Kinda diggin it. Couple things he did in the series that one always would want to happen, but rarely ever does, being that what you want to happen, happens, and I mean quick like too. Did many LOLs for real as I enjoyed the style of storytelling. One minor flaw, not necessarily the authors fault, except he probably did not notice it either, on book 1 cover art, do you see the error? No hint here, just full-blown spoiler alert, the quiver is on the wrong side of his back. Other than that, looks like I will be getting this series in its entirety.

Loved this book and am looking forward to continuing this series. I absolutely love the main character and his mentality. It's nice to have a main character that knows what he wants and is striving to achieve those goals actively. Not letting other outside influences distract him for a large swath.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the end of the tutorial turns out being that there's still quite a lot of time left before it's end.

Well I'm off to the next book.

Honestly, it was a decent story. But if I'm being honest (which I try to be 😉), I almost dnf. It did seem to have a bit of filler, & it wasn't what scratched my LitRPG itch. I did stop a little over halfway through the book a few days ago. BUT I CAME BACK! So don't crucify me 👉🏾👈🏾. Anywho, I'm glad I came back to finish it. I honestly could have done without William's character, or at least his personality and back story. That boy needs Jesus and holy water! All in all, I loved the growth of the MC, and I can't wait to sink into the next book!

The Primal Hunter is an interesting take on the gamelit genre, specifically litrpg, while blending it with isekai. The protagonist Jake being transported to an RPG-like arena and simply told to survive 60 days after he chooses his class, one of only five offered by the featureless being inducting him into the multiverse his world is being assimilated into. The characters are interesting enough to get you hooked and the story moves along, going into interesting tangents at times. There are parts that drag, particularly those with William, the closest this book has to an antagonist, and his past as . . . you guessed it the second he showed up as a character, a sociopath. While the sociopath eventually is shown a path towards redemption, it is only hinted at and certainly never impinging on said sociapath's awareness. The gameplay mechanics are cool and the overall book easily earned five stars and made me want to read on.

I'm coming back to the review section after finishing book 10 and overall I can just recommend the series. It's a fun adventure with many different unexpected events which always spice up the story in a fun way. That it doesn't just focus on 1 character but others are able to shine to is also very welcome

The book establishes the MC and other important characters properly... It makes proper use of the power of numbers as a LitRPG without going into too much number crunching, avoiding oversaturation with skill levels, etc. Looking forward to reading book 2...
