The Problem with Mistletoe (Five Points Stories Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 264 ratings

A Gay Christmas Romance!
David Cooper did not believe in
happily ever after. He thought he'd let his chance at that pass him by—between work, being a single father and planning a Christmas party for his mother’s charity, his life was complicated enough. And then he has to ask Alex Capili, an old friend who just returned from the big city, to help run the charity event. Spending weeks working closely together, old feelings come up and David wonders if fairy tales really do come true.
Alex came home to help sell off his family’s restaurant. He was not looking for love, and happy endings only happen in movies. But nothing about this return trip home town is quite what he had expected, and David is still the best man he's ever known: a good father, with a heart as big as all outdoors... and disarmingly handsome.

Loved the romance, the backstory and the diversity of the principal and supporting characters. It still had twists, turns and surprises, plus I’m looking forward to moving right on to the other 5📚 in the series…

Four stars (highly recommended) to The Problem with Mistletoe. A well written, engaging story of reconnecting. Some excruciatingly funny date scenes. The main characters took a little longer than expected to get out of their own way, but they were engaging characters and this is a well-written, enjoyable read.

Mr Baxter, our author, is a true romantic and a very talented writer. Not only that, he has a lot of faith that in America, our diverse communities will come together and take care of our own. And, in addition, if we all pitch in, we can find true love and happiness. In other words, that there's room for all of us in Norman Rockwell's vision... Lol, despite what a twisty on-again-off-again world our hearts inhabit. And, to quote Tennessee Williams. What is straight? A line can be straight, or a street, but the human heart, oh, no, it's curved like a road through mountains. Bravo. Delicious.

Working with David brings the two closer but numerous challenges threaten their tentative relationship - the past, Alex’s job back in NYC, David’s son Eric, David’s coworker, David’s job and more.

This is a thoughtful, original, funny and very sweet Christmas romance about two men whose pride, complicated pasts and family obligations have prevented them both from finding closure and happiness on many levels. The story explores their history together and how it's inevitably caught up with their present. Sometimes you have to deal with the past to move forward with your future. The theme of the holidays is a perfect backdrop for this story as they sort through their respective family issues and juggle the needs of some dear mutual friends who are going through a very realistic tough time. I got invested in the story very early on, but even while it deals with some serious issues, it has a lot of humor and lightheartedness, especially from some of the side characters - and you will care about and root for every character, both big and small. Kyle Baxter is a promising new author and a fresh voice in the genre. I think this book will make a lot of people very happy this holiday season!

This was a great book. It drew me in from the very first page and I couldn't put it down. A heartwarming and loving Christmas story. I absolutely loved David and Alex and I didn't want their story to end. The secondary characters were awesome too. Hope to get more of these characters in future books. A job well done Mr. Baxter!!!

It's a light read, despite mentioning matters of abuse and homophobia the focus of the story is in David's and Alex's love story. It has everything you would expect from a Hallmark Christmas Movie, except that it's better because it's gay! Diverse charcters with well established personalities that had me attached to them from the first chapters. It's not perfect, sometimes the pacing is a little too fast and sometimes it's repetitive, but still is worth reading. It's a lovely Christmas love story and it will warm your heart! I really enjoyed it!

Slightly chaotic, in a good way, as the story winds around past and present pain, emotional and physical trauma, workplace drama and security missing at home. Many lgbt themes are confronted and untwined, with the presentation of various and groups and what they've gone through, are going through, or are trying to help others not go through.
