The Purchased Alpha (Alpha Market Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 410 ratings

In a realm where omegas rule, Sebastian is king—almost.

As the oldest brother of three, Prince Sebastian is first in line to inherit the Kingdom of Lacehaven, a wealthy nation where omegas dominate the hierarchy. Sebastian wants for nothing. He has money, power, and beauty. But he’s missing one crucial thing—a child. Without an heir, Sebastian forfeits his birthright. Fortunately, the monarchy has a traditional solution in place. A plethora of pedigreed alphas, the finest in all of Lacehaven, await his selection. All Sebastian needs to do is choose.

But Sebastian dismisses them all. He wants a challenge. And what the Prince wants, he always gets.

There’s only two ways out of the Alpha Market—purchase or death.

Rourke gave up everything but his last name when he registered for purchase at the Alpha Market. In exchange for his subservience, his younger brother is set for life, and that was a sacrifice Rourke was willing to make. But Rourke refuses to spend his life as some omega’s toy. He’ll fight tooth and tail to protect his pride, and he’ll be damned if an omega tries to take that away from him.

Even if the Prince himself pays Rourke’s price.

The Purchased Alpha is a 65,000 word omegaverse novel featuring a fated mates concept with a twist. Mpreg drives the story but is not the main focus. It is darker than some of my other books, but rest assured it has a HEA like always. It includes enemies-to-lovers trope, steamy scenes, no cheating and no cliffhangers.

Ok, wow that was so good! The Purchased Alpha is definitely the author's darkest book to date. At least, in my opinion. I'm used to a Hawke Oakley book being fluffy and sugary sweet with minimal angst. There's also a lot of insta love. Which isn't a bad thing! I love those books but that just made me appreciate this darker work a whole lot more. When we first meet Sebastian, he is haughty, cruel, sharply intelligent, and believes alphas are no better than dogs. I actually didn't know how to feel about him at first, but he definitely grew on me by the end. And then we have Roarke. He is a gentle giant with an extreme dislike for omegas. But who can blame him after what they've put him through? He is an alpha for purchase at the market. Seb, needing to produce an heir but not wanting to choose any of the pedigreed alphas, he buys Roarke's contract binding the two to each other. This is an enemies to lovers romance so their developing feelings have plenty of time to simmer. No insta love here. In fact, I was actually wondering while I was reading how these two can possibly come to love each other. It sort of reminded me of Damen and Laurent's relationship in Captive Prince. I really appreciated the slow build up to their realizing their love for each other. Both have to work to undo the preconceived stereotypes they've been spoon fed. Especially Sebastian. I also loved that the omegas are the ones in power here. It's so refreshing after reading dozens of omegaverse books where omegas are treated like breeding cattle. The world building was also interesting. I loved the canine elements incorporated into the culture and mythos. This book is nowhere near as light hearted as other books by this author. I sped through this in one sitting, biting my nails wondering how things were going to resolve themselves. A lot of shocking plot twists happened that had me on the edge of my seat. This is also one of Oakley's longer works, but I still wanted more. The Purchased Alpha really clicked for me. It's hands down my favorite book by this author and I can't wait to read more in this series. I'm assuming Elian and Cecil will get their own books, which I'm definitely excited for. If you love the author's other works, don't skip this one.

This story has the roles reversed. Omega's in charge and Alpha's treated like stray dogs. What happens when fate throws a curve ball in the mix makes this a great story!

I would have preferred more. More in character development, more in plot formation, more in overall detail as the story progressed.
But the real reason I give 3 stars is the story being told in past tense when it should have been present since the story was unfolding as you read. Made it very difficult to read.

A dark but fun flip on the A/B/O universe, where Alphas are at the bottom and can be bought by rich Omegas. Honestly I’d love to see more Omegaverse books like this. Looking forward to the brothers’ stories.

    Spice: 4/5
    Angst: 3/5

For me this was a four star, but gets an extra because of its uniqueness. This novel takes everything we think about empreg and Omegaverse and flips the coin. The change in status and relationship dynamic make this a worthy read

It seems that the each new book I read by Hawke Oakley, I find is more developed and detailed than the last. It makes me super hungry for a series that I am sure is coming. What about Elian and Shep? This had smexy some but it had so much description of fated mates according to the old book they found which probably also matches Cinderhollow information about Fated Mates or this is from their libraries.
I love how Hawke weaves bits of other tales into each one he is writing especially the latest ones.
Hawke has become one of my new favorite authors. I have binged everything now and I can't wait until there is more to this story!

... told from a different point of view. Stories of abused Omegas are abundant - this series deals with abused and exploited Alphas, as well as the question of fated mates and matters of distorted / falsified history.
A well writen, worth reading story.

Fantastic book. I really liked the concept of a ruling omega class, and the dynamics it invoked, as it is very different from most other shifter novels. A great read :)

This book is unusual, with the omegas in charge instead of alphas. It is well worth a read and I look forward to seeing how future books develop.
