- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2025A wonderful, wholesome story about magic, empathy, and self-awareness.
Alice is a lovely child who struggles with some troublesome classmates. They distract her when she is trying to focus and are generally little troublemakers, particularly one girl called Ruby. Our character finds herself with magical powers which include the ability to use nature, such as vines, wind, and such things.
She uses these tricks in a few ways, both positive and negative. But it turns out her actions have consequences, and this is where the first big moral of the story comes in: she should use her powers for good.
The second big moral of the story comes up when Ruby. At first Alice thinks she is just a troublemaker for the sake of it. But then she learns about her classmate's rather tumultuous family life, and realises that perhaps Ruby's behaviour is a reaction and reflection of that difficult home life. This is a wonderful message for children to learn at such a young age, and this was my favourite part of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loved this!
My eldest daughter picked up this book and didn’t put it down. I later read it to her younger sister and I’m glad I did because I got to enjoy it too. Some super valuable life lessons for high achieving young girls. Can’t wait to read more in this series!
