    One of my favorite genres is Vampire Romance. One of my favorite tropes in the genre is the protective trop. Therefore, I was really excited to read this book. The plot sounded very intriguing and did I mention I love Vampires!

    However, this story became very “crowded” early on into the book and I found myself having to flip back and forth just to keep track of who was whom in the plot. I’m all for the introduction of new characters into a story but I felt like most of them were introduced within the first few chapters of the story. This was very frustrating and ruined the reading experience for me tremendously.

    Nevertheless, the story was good and the chemistry between the main characters was good. I love Siri’s but when one of the main characters broods for too long and denies the connection in a book, it takes away from the romance a tad.

    Still a good read if you can keep track of the characters in the story!

    Ashley Lockwood has a rare talent for blending deep world building, spicy romance, and urban fantasy all into one tasty mix.

    The protagonist, Gwen, is both believable and also exciting enough to make a great POV character throughout.

    You're taken for a ride along with Gwen as she figures out that the world is not what it seems. There's a classic brooding antihero type who must at first be her reluctant protector, but Sirus doesn't remain a flat character, and we find out much more about him and his struggles as we go.

    Their relationship is well fleshed out, and the "will they, won't they" back-and-forth is fun and not taken to an annoying extreme.

    Throughout the whole book, extreme care is taken in the world-building, bringing a lot of juicy lore meat to the table. The author has truly put a lot of love and work in, and it shines through.

    I won't spoil the cliffhanger, but I will say that I'm very excited to see where things go next! It's a great feeling to be in on the ground floor of a new series. It's one that romance lovers and fantasy lovers both will get something out of.

    A recommended read for sure!

Their internal dialogs were more detailed then most books in a good way. By the middle of the book I was there , In the story and with the characters. I could not put the book down at that point. I need more and went to the 2nd book immediately. I hope the whole series is this good.

    I felt like the first 3/4 of the book was kinda slow. I think it was something like 170 or so pages in was just 1 week. It’s VERY detailed. And I didn’t dis-like it. It just felt slow until the almost end. But it’s a good story & I can’t wait to see how it goes
