Rain After Fire: A Fake Relationship Romance (Balsam Ridge Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,348 ratings

If you play with fire, expect to get burned.

I learned at a young age to trust no one, protect myself, and guard my heart. All lessons my mother burned into me. She may not have had a lot to offer in way of help but she poured all she had into me and made me the independent woman I am today. So after laying her to rest, I packed my belongings and moved to the place that she talked about often. A place where she enjoyed the carefree pleasures of childhood.

Balsam Ridge, Tennessee is a little slice of paradise and nothing like the busy city that I’m accustomed to. With its idyllic setting, friendly strangers, and slower pace, a girl could easily be charmed into letting her walls down.

It was only going to be a stop on my journey. A respite while I figured out my next move, and catching feelings for the confident and sexy local Fire Chief, Corbin Tuttle, was not part of the plan.

It was supposed to be a game. A hoax. A brief fling to help him break a toxic cycle. But my mother always told me, that sometimes you need a little rain to calm the fire.

*Small town, Family Saga, Fake Relationship.

A Chance At Love

A Chance At Love
Ms. Kelly, you did it again you are putting out another fantastic book. I loved your Popular Falls but this series is quickly becoming my favorite.Corbin stole my heart in his brother's books and this sealed my love for him. This man gave his all in everything from his family to his job. My issue was his relationship with Susanna and if we want to be technical I view it as a battered type of syndrome. A few times I wanted to slap her which couldn't happen because well she is a fictional character. Then we have Maxi and to say I had a girl crush is truly an understatement. I mean this chick rides a Harley. Maxi is one of those girls you just click with. Once Corbin and Maxi found their footing together it made my heart smile. These two deserved to be loved and cherished. Their happy ending made this book perfection. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the first two.

Was anxious to see how Corbin's story would come along. He's in charge of the local firehouse. They work 72 hours on then 48 off. His on again, off again relationship is going nowhere. But he just doesn't know how to end it.

Then a beautiful and ballsy lady moves to town and now works as a bartender and server at a local pub. She was there when his girlfriend made a big deal at a gathering she was invited to. None of Corbin's 5 brothers understand why he stays.

Finally after one too many fights, she says she's going on vacation without him. He says they need a break. So she leaves. When Corbin shows up at the bar later with a couple of brothers, Maxi calls him out. Says she could fake date him while she's away so his now ex-girlfriend can take the hint that they are through.

I love how things got really interesting then. Maxi actually puts Corbin to work on a fishing cabin she was given after the passing of her mom. She wants to fix it up to sell so she can keep moving on.

But these people here in Balsam Ridge can quickly draw you in. She's never had a close family and never saw any like this. What will happen when she starts getting included in local activities? Will she stay, or move on? And what about Corbin?

So good! I am addicted to this series now because this family and all of the friends are so worth reading about. Add this to your TBR pile. Enjoy

This story may seem sweet and small town but goodness is it spicy, and in the very best ways. Corbin is the fire chief in Balsam Ridge Valley and one of the very best guys. Handsome, kind but also stuck in a rut with long time on and off girlfriend Susanna. When she runs away, yet again, Corbin has finally snapped. No more of the back and forth.

Enter Maxi, the newest bartender at the brewery with a troubled past. She’s feisty, smart, sexy and tells you exactly what you need to hear! She’s the epitome of bartender therapist. She suggests to Corbin that they start fake dating to break him of his “toxic cycle”.

Friendship and attraction never stay separate for long. What happens when nothing ever felt fake? When tragedy strikes, will there be rain after the fire?

Such a good read!!! Maxi is the most badass and down to earth character and I fell in love with her instantly. Corbin and Maxi’s chemistry was off the charts! 5/5 stars 4/5 spice.

I'm not big on fake relationship books but this one was a bit different. The character development, main characters, and small town family all add up to an all around good love story. The fake relationship was a bit different but Maxie made it so funny. She was all business and held fast to her role. She was a bit off putting at first but I warned up to her. Corbin was great, strong, hard worker, and great guy. Glad they found their way. It was a very quick romance and I'm shocked how much they built on their days off, seemed a bit far fetched but still worked. Also where does all the money come from for the projects and a new van in the end? But I guess it's just a story. It all worked and had good storyline.

Life for Maxi was rough, but her Mother was the soft rain that soothed away the pain. Until she lost her to cancer. It was how she ended up in Tennessee fixing up the old cabin on her grandparent’s property her Mom left her. She would tend bar while she was living in the small community and than move on after selling the old place. She enjoyed the people who came into the bar and had a good time setting them straight when they grumbled about life.
Maxi swore she would never marry and let some man control her life. Then she stepped up to straighten Corbin Tuttle’s love life out. His on again, off again girlfriend had just left for a Caribbean vacation without him after an blow up, again, about his job as the town’s Fire Chief. Maxi was sure she wasn’t Corbin’s type. After all she was out spoken, had tattoos and road a Harley. Tough as nails, at least on the outside. He was a dedicated fire fighter with a large family behind him. And he went above and beyond for the folks in the community.
This isn’t simply a romantic story about Corbin and Maxi, it’s about a town full of people you get to know through the series of stories about the Tuttle brothers. There are secondary characters who, with a few swipes of her pen Amber Kelly brings to life so much, it can hurt. Amber Kelly shares bits of what it might be like to be a firefighter, live in a town where being a neighbors mean gathering, in the good times and the bad, and offering opinions wanted or not. She makes the tough decisions to have bad things happen to good people and shows their strengths when they have to face tragedy and heartache. I highly recommend this story where there is some spicy romance, tough times, a town full of good neighbors and families, where no one is totally mean, and people you want to learn more about. A small slice of Southern life with a lot of soothing rain.

I loved 99% of this book.

I experienced so many emotions while reading this 📖. I got so angry at Susannah. She was a selfish C U Next Tuesday for most of the book. If I'm honest, I was pretty mad at Corbin too. He let her walk all over him and never held her accountable for the way she treated him. I loved Maxi from the beginning but, my heart hurts for all she's been through. I'm so glad her mom led her to Balsam Ridge. There she found a family.

I KNEW what was going to happen with the firefighter (don't want to spoil it so I won't say his name) before the fire ever started. I was crying as soon as the fire started. I prayed I was wrong.

I know this type of stuff happens in real life but, a similar scenario happens too often in romance books. I read to get away from the pain and stress that is real life. I wish authors wouldn't make us feel like a character is a friend if they won't be around at the end of the book. Grieving someone, even a fictional character, is not an escape. That is what I am experiencing currently in reality. I have lost so many family members and friends in the last year. If I'm going to experience the same in a book, I might as well not read it. That is just my personal opinion.

This has been my favourite so far. It had all the angst I wanted, the emotional push and pull I’d been needing from the other two. I loved this couple and the way they complement each other,
