Sebastian needed to get away from his toxic family and work on his self esteem. But Tyler was always there to reassure him and let him know he was always in his corner.     Besties to lovers. Soulmates. Gahh I love the trope so much. I really enjoyed Sebastian and Tyler’s story. Basically babies to grown men and finally figured out that they’re soul mates and that’s why no other relationship has compared. I felt that pain Tyler felt for Sebastian having to be home and be constantly being told how wrong it is over and over again. I felt Tyler’s heartbreak for him too. I felt the pride for Sebastian finally standing up to his family and so happy to see that not his entire family was lost (with his sister). I love that they figured it out in the end. ❤️

    I really enjoyed the first 50-75% of this book. The friendship between these two was wonderful and I loved that they had basically been friends their entire lives.

    The dynamic between an introvert and extrovert is always a good one and I absolutely LOVED that these two were able communicate like adults. It’s so rare to find in a lot of books these days, so I enjoyed how strong their newfound relationship was, even from the very beginning.

    I do wish I would have started this series from the beginning because I was so curious about the other friends/roommates/teammates who were really not mentioned as much as I’ve seen in other series. And that is definitely not a bad thing.

    I enjoyed the family backstories that explained a bit more as to why these guys were the way they were, but it lost me with the unnecessary angst toward the end. There were just so many better, more mature ways these two could have dealt with the situation and it ruined it a bit for me.

    I definitely still liked this book and will likely read the others in the series.

    Rebels of the Rink by Hayden Hall is the 5th book in his Arctic Titans of Northwood U series. There are reoccurring characters in this one from previous stories so you may want to read them first. This is a best friend to lovers story about two college hockey players who never saw it coming. Sebastian and Tyler have been best friends since childhood and know each other inside and out. They both have strained family relationships in that Tyler’s mother left his family and his father fell apart and was often distant after that, and Sebastian’s family were religious fanatics and didn’t think he was good enough at anything. They are now college seniors at Northwood U and both play on the school’s hockey team as well as live in the team house on campus. They are both straight and have been seeking long term relationships and thought they had them when Sebastian caught his girlfriend cheating with another guy and started to spiral out of control thinking he was never good enough. Tyler, being the caring person he was, was there to catch him and be with him to help him work though his feelings and in turn was neglecting his girlfriend who was jealous of the time they spent together. As Tyler was comforting Sebastian they started thinking of the feelings they had for each other and this led to a tentative kiss which freaked them out. But the more they thought about what happened, the more they realized what they meant to each other and this led to more experimentation and to some very hot love scenes. In order to be true to themselves Tyler had to break things off with his girlfriend and when he did they were free to build their relationship and take it farther. The story continues as they do this, interspersed with school and hockey, and eventually their friends discover they are together. They are relieved when they realize that they are supportive, which they should be given the make-up of their team members, and are happy that things are working out. Then they visit home over break and things come to a screeching halt when Sebastian is confronted by his parents who make him realize he isn’t enough and that he can’t give Tyler what he needs so this could be the end of their relationship. Luckily Tyler is once again able to see through what is happening and helps them find their happy ending. I enjoyed this book as I have the others in the series. This is an angsty story about 2 guys whose childhoods weren’t the best and this led them to have issues as adults. Luckily they always had each other, especially when they were having problems, and they never gave up finding ways to be there when needed. Sebastian and Tyler were such good guys yet clueless about being together in a loving relationship until that first kiss. Then they realized what they had and that they were always meant to be together. Their friends and teammates added some fun and companionship as well as advice. Sebastian’s family were truly horrible to him, except for his sister, and caused problems throughout his life. I was very glad when he finally cut ties with them. I recommend this book, especially if you like stories featuring best friend to lovers, college hockey players, and men who realize that love was right there all the time and all they had to do was reach out and grab it.

Every mention of them by the other guys in the house/on the team simply makes it sweeter as we learn more about their lifelong friendship, messy and complicated families and strussles with (past) relationships as we go along with them on their journey. The bond between these two loveable guys is so strong and sweet that their story is both poignant and heartwarming. They deserve their HEA so much! Loved this addition to the series and look forward to book 6!

    Why can’t more BFFs just get on with it like Sebastian and Tyler? I’m quite sure it’s not a unique phenomenon. I enjoyed the contrast between their two families as well. One with a loving but mentally vulnerable father, one with demanding, yet toxically and shockingly zealous. Whether exaggerated or not (I’m leaning towards not), it’s a good example of how parents can undermine their child’s mental state like an ocean and a mountain. These two lifelong friends accidentally move past their heteronormative expectations and find love where it was, ironically, most obvious. I enjoyed this installment immensely, one of my favorites in the Titans cycle thus far. Plenty of heat, plenty of emotion, I highly recommend.
