Rival Radio: An Enemies-to-Lovers Romance Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,405 ratings

All’s fair in love and radio…

Dr. Theodore Chadwick is an expert on everything that I hate. On air, he’s the charming host of “True Romance,” giving advice to lovelorn listeners searching for their soulmates.

But off air? We’re at each other’s throats 24/7.

My romance-obsessed adversary might be stupidly attractive—with unfairly broad shoulders—but his cocky arrogance and cool demeanor only lead to constant bickering. Which is just fine by me. I prefer arguments over candle-lit dinners anyway. My radio show, “Choosing Yourself,” is all about embracing being single.
And since being left at the altar by my no-show groom, I’ve built a career out of rejecting love and romance.

Until a budget crisis at our radio station forces us into the same sound booth, answering listener calls about love, sex and romance…together. Sure, our opinions are diametrically opposed. But if we can manage to keep it friendly on the air, our combined popularity might just save the station.

If we can keep it friendly.

And in the close quarters of the sound booth, it gets harder and harder to remember that Theo and I have sworn to hate each other…

RIVAL RADIO is a hot enemies-to-lovers romance about two workplace rivals who heat up the airwaves once they realize that their fighting was really flirting all along. One-click for forced proximity, a funky radio station with a ragtag crew and retro beach-town vibes.

Such a cute book that provides depth with the characters and the story!

Such a cute book that provides depth with the characters and the story!
Well folks, I fell for this book. The author does a terrific job at bringing out the depth in her characters that make it easy for me to relate to and care for them. Both of these characters have detailed pasts that I couldn’t help but sympathize for, but their past experiences really helped mold them into the people that they are, especially with their beliefs and their careers. Daria is big on self love. Her past has taught her to put herself first and not to mold her life around expectations and acceptance from a significant other. The way that Daria was so secure with herself was really empowering! I loved how proud she is of herself and how she isn’t willing to risk losing a single part of who she is if she ever decides to date someone. Theo’s past has left him yearning for love and trying to find a significant other to spend the rest of his life with. I really enjoyed the growth he went through and the self reflections he had in terms of his past relationships. Daria’s and Theo’s jobs naturally pin them against each other, with his radio show promoting finding love and healthy relationships, while her radio show promotes loving yourself and not needing a significant other. Even though they had opposing thoughts on relationships, it was nice to see a few things they had in common, such as similar vulnerabilities with their career goals, and the passion they both shared for their community. I love how this book took the opportunity to talk about non-traditional couples (by society's standards) and how it showed acceptance and love for them. There have been books lately where there are instances of dislike or discrimination towards specific groups of people, so it was a breath of fresh air to see some love for a group of people who are frequently judged negatively in real life! A few other small details I enjoyed about this book: I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the fact that even though these two wanted different things in regards to their personal lives, it wasn’t your typical “if you don’t want a relationship, I guess we’re done here.” There was compromise and patience and minimal pressure to convert to the other person’s way of thinking and I love the author for choosing this route for the characters! And last, but definitely not least, the pulse point kisses from Theo were to die for! There is something so intimately erotic about sweet, soft kisses to pulse points on the body IMO! Favorite Quote: “I’ve spent too much time fantasizing about what you look like when you use these toys you rave about. And not enough time seeing you do it in real life.” -Theo

If you liked The Ex Talk but wanted more swoons AND more sex, well, then you're gonna love this sexual tension-filled treat! There's something about Nolan's writing that is always so super swoony, with low angst vibes and romance that you can root for. I was expecting this to have stronger enemies to lovers vibes, but these two are very much rivals who can't stand their attraction to each other. Our buttoned up hero believes in love and romantic gestures, while our heroine believes in loving yourself and putting your own happiness first. Their past experiences have shaped their current philosophies, and these two rival radio hosts can't seem to agree on anything. I loved the bickering turned bantering, the playful and sexy feel, the HEAT, and the obvious chemistry. This hero is a cinnamon roll sweetheart who loves love, and I adored that he was steadfast the whole way through. It's a lighthearted, intelligent story, and I had no trouble bingeing it in one sitting.

The story follows Daria and Theo, two radio personalities who each host their own shows about love. Theo is all about finding your perfect partner, commitment, and lasting relationships, while Daria is planning to remain single forever. They both have popular relationship advice shows, but the radio station is still struggling, so management decides it'd be best to pair them up for awhile. The only trouble? Daria and Theo can't seem to stop arguing, and their advise to listeners couldn't be more contradictory. It seems like they'll never be able to get along... except, the chemistry that sparks between them is the kind neither one has ever experienced. As they struggle to find common ground, Theo and Daria realize that opposites don't just attract - they might be perfect for each other.

I'm always up for an opposites attract romance, and having a hero who is all in right away is never a bad thing. I loved Theo, who has been searching for real, authentic love for years. He's such a sweetheart of a man, but certainly has an alpha side when he needs it, and that made for such a compelling combination. Daria was also great too; she is so strong and independent that it would take just the right man to make her fall. There are some excellent themes about putting yourself first, compromising, accepting imperfections, and holding on to a love that feels right. There's also plenty of inclusivity in this cast of characters, another of Nolan's strengths. The whole thing remained upbeat and STEAMY, with tons of playfulness and some great insight. And did I mention the chemistry? There's not much that I didn't love about this; it was another very satisfying read from Nolan.

I finished Rival Radio last night and have since been racking my brain to find the right words to describe how I feel about this book. I took my time reading it because I didn't want it to end and I was loving the characters so much!! I want to visit Sunrise Beach because it sounds like the most amazing place on Earth!! This book was fantastic, amazing, wonderful, awesome, etc, etc!!! I read a lot of books and I can honestly say this is one of the best I've ever read!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE READ IT!!!!!
Daria is such a wonderful heroine! She's been through heartbreak and survived, yet she's still vulnerable. She's strong in her beliefs but is still willing to learn that there are other view points that are valid. And she likes herself and is secure in her own skin. I LOVE HER!!!
Theo is the hero everyone is going to want!! He starts out as such a contradiction to his own beliefs, but to see his growth throughout the book was amazing!! He didn't buy into Daria's self love stuff until he actually opened his mind up and tried it. As well as opening up his mind to all sorts of things that he had closed it too. He was romantic, a great listener, and so loyal to his created family.
The supporting cast was phenomenal!!! Janis is the boss we all want, as well as a friend!! Mags is the bomb!!! Not only as Daria's mother but as the morning DJ. She has her own awakening that is just beautiful. And the way she's there for Daria, as well as all of the K-SUN staff is fantastic! Des, Elena, Martha, all of Sunrise Beach, and even Aiden at the paintball and wig place add so much to the story!! Loved them all!!!
This book made me happy, made me think, and made me believe that anything is possible if we open our minds to it!!! Kathryn Nolan is a brilliant author who paints a picture that you become a part of as soon as you open her books! This book will stay with me for a long time, Thank You for that.

Not really good for me, but it's not terrible. The two main characters kept rehashing their trauma, and it got old. I know their trauma, they know each others trauma, why are we repeating it verbally over and over? I felt like all their convos werent really experiencing each other, but rehashing why they stand on opposite sides of the dating argument.

Another pet peeve was Daria calling out Theo, claiming he touted his PhD and expertise too much, making her feel inferior, to where he essentially grovelled and said he's sooo sorry. He never mentioned it to make her feel that way. Yet all she touts is "be your authentic self" so much so that authentic is used 26 times...so wouldn't Theo being proud enough of his education, to share it, wouldn't that be him being authentic???

The side characters were good. But not enough for me to finish it. I stopped around 58%. At that point it just became a broken record for me.

The chemistry between Theo and Daria is electric. The found family dynamic of the radio station is perfection. And the way this book makes me crave funnel cake and boardwalk treats is insane.
The idea that you need to love yourself first isn't foreign to me, but the way Kathryn presents it in this book made it make so much more sense. The layers of love and relationships is so well done. I feel like these two are real people who I want to hear do a radio show.
I'm always impressed by the depth of Kathryn Nolan's stories and this one is no different.

I have to say this story had an interesting twist to romance for these two characters. Their thoughts and advice during their radio show was entertaining. You’ll enjoy these two as they journey to find their HEA. Enjoy!

Sometimes enemies to lovers storylines can feel a bit forced, but this felt effortless in the hands of Kathryn Nolan. This was a sexy, funny and thoughtful story of a couple with opposing views about love, who discover they might have more in common than they thought. This had great characterisation and a superior writing style.

This book is Kathryn Nolan at her best. Filled with nostalgia, a kickass heroine, a vulnerable hero, loveable secondary characters, community and a fantastic sound track. I can’t stop thinking about this story and I know this is going to be in my top reads of 2022.

Rival Radio takes us to Sunrise Beach and K-SUN FM which sees Daria & Theo hosting love advice shows with rival philosophies. When they are forced to work together sparks fly as they argue their differing views. Forced to work in close quarters and compete at community events they start to realise that they may have a lot to learn from each other about Life And Love.

The chemistry between these two flys of the page and the author gives us some scorching hot scenes between them. I really enjoyed how both characters were (eventually) willing to open up and learn from the other.

This story is an exquisite study on different types of love celebrating above all love for yourself. Theo and Daria’s story is pure sunshine and delight and I highly recommend this if you want a deeply satisfying read.
