Shadow's Ruin (Shadow Falls Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 146 ratings

He tried to break me, but I healed stronger.

Wolves are blessed with a fated mate, but in my case, he only caused suffering. Ronan Campbell, my perfect match, rejected me in front of our entire pack. Beaten, heartbroken, I ran, escaping the only home I’d ever known.

Pack Shadow Falls took me in, helped me heal, and built me up stronger than ever. I shoved Ronan into the darkest depths of my memory. Never to be thought of again. Until my old pack reared its ugly head.

The Alphas of the Midwest have been called to a summit. A gathering organized by my father, the Alpha of my old pack. Which is how I end up stuck at Blackthorn Lodge for a week with the man who rejected me.

My father is playing it off like it’s a big social event, where different packs can get to know each other. But there’s something rotten about the whole situation. I need to find out what he’s up to and avoid my mate in the process.

Let’s hope I’m still breathing by the end of the week. Because there’s a very good chance I won’t make it out of Blackthorn Lodge unscathed.

Shadow’s Ruin is the fifth book in the Shadow Falls series, but it can be read as a standalone. Fans of rejected mates stories, second chance romances, and fated mates will love this latest book from Lizzy Prince.

Ronan is the best freaking cinnamon roll ever and Dylan is fierce and fabulous. This was a wonderful entry into the Shadow Falls world and very well done. Lizzy Prince is a great writer who is phenomenal at world building and writes dynamic and interesting characters. Love this series.

I started off confused by this book, and although things cleared up, I kind of remained confused. Reading the prologue, you think everything is fine, and then suddenly, there are beatings and threats. We were given no warning that they weren't supposed to be together or were hiding it and that her father was a POS. All we had was years of knowing they were mates. I didn't understand why things went down the way they did.
Rejection. If he rejected her as his mate, why were they still fully connected? What good does rejection do if it doesn't break the bond? Not marking each other, I get, but saying I reject you when it does nothing....why?
His Alpha doesn't trust him, and yet he can have picnics and visitors and be around her constantly? They can smell day old sex in a room and don't think they will be scented, together, in the same room?
The MMC talks about how he is stronger than his Alpha the entire book and knows he is up to something terrible, but he just sits on his hands. He could have marked his mate and challenged him at the beginning of the book.
Oh wait, he couldn't mark his mate because he rejected her......except it did nothing to their bond, and they both wanted it from the moment they saw each other!
There was so much potential for this book, but the storyline had big plot holes. It seemed more about creating sexual tension and having spice scenes than having a good solid story complimented with tension and spice.
*This book is rated R. The F word is used more than once. The spice scenes are explicitly detailed. There is bloody violence.

So well written. Loved the twists and turns. LOVED the spice! The heat was built just right. The storyline was very well developed. Action packed, suspenseful, romantic, and hot!!

The premise was a good one, but the story was… lacking. There wasn't the depth of emotion I was looking for in a book about fated mates. The hero was… weak. He was more a beta than an alpha. The heroine, Dylan, was more dominant than Ronan, which was a turn-off. The suspense was respectable, which kept me reading. The payout was somewhat satisfying, though I was still left feeling disappointed by the actual romance.

This rejected mates story is on the lower end of the angst spectrum. The story moves quickly past the rejection to how Dylan is doing now without much insight into how she picked herself up and tried to heal without her mate. We do get bits and pieces as the story unfolds, but we don't get a firsthand account. So if you're looking for the angsty, boiling tension of watching the fmc suffer, this is not that kind. It does, however, have a very sweet undertone once we find out why Ronan rejected Dylan, and you don't stay mad at him for long. The focus shifts from his betrayal to the ringleader of both of their pain, and we get to see them overcome their past to cement their future. My fave scene is at the end when they take on the Alpha. They work together seamlessly to protect each other, selflessly watching the other's back, and it pays off. I also love Dylan's found family. I haven't read the other books in the series, but I especially adore Silas and Bridget. One day, I'd like to go back and read about how they found one another.

This paranormal romance captivated me from start to finish, blending entertainment, intrigue, and just the right touch of passion. A true binge-worthy delight! Within the pages, Dylan and Ronan's destinies are intertwined, only to be forcefully torn apart by circumstances beyond their control. As Ronan is compelled to distance himself from Dylan, she must gather the fragments of her heart that lie scattered in the aftermath. In the face of heartbreak, Dylan emerges as a figure of strength, embodying a resilient and unwavering spirit. She's far from someone who yields easily, having undergone profound growth and transformation.

Ronan's journey to regain Dylan's trust and mend the fractures he's created becomes a focal point of the narrative. Swiftly, any reservations the reader may hold about his initial rejection of Dylan dissolve as the story unfolds. The pacing of events maintains an engaging momentum, as the narrative quickly ignites into a fiery crescendo of action, laced with unexpected twists and turns. This tale is an intricate tapestry woven with passion and suspense.

In its entirety, the book proves to be an excellent read that left me yearning for more. With its compelling storytelling, I'm eagerly anticipating the chance to delve into the other volumes within this series!

Tropes: Paranormal romance, rejected mates, fated mates, shifters, wolves, second chances, virgin hero, virgin heroine, happily-ever-after

Instagram ad for the win. Honestly they're usually more miss than hit, but this time was fun.

Shadow's Ruin is a romp through treacherous woods, unidentified enemy plots, and good old fashioned the one who got away.

It's an easy and fun read. It kept me entertained and engaged. While I'm new to the author and Shadow Falls, I anticipate returning!

Ronan and Dylan's story is loaded with ups, downs, curves, turns, and contorted alphas. Dylan's heart was broken when she was thumped then dismissed by her closest companion and mate, naturally she needed to fail to remember her past and continue on however I made certain there was more than met the eye to the story. Be that as it may, Dylan was terrified to open her heart and trust Ronan, I think after the disclosures shel hauled it a piece, not saying she needed to hop right in however she was certainly being a piece difficult and hard on him, yet I'm happy they resolved things and got their HEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit predictable but otherwise very much enjoyable

Dylan never had it easy in her life. Her father was a true bully and her fated mate rejected her. Luckily the Shadow Falls pack took care of her and helped her to recover. Instead of crumbling Dylan became a strong and independent woman. Until the Alphas of the Midwest have been called to a summit. Organized by her father which means that something can’t be right. Besides having to find out what her father is scheming Dylan also has to face the fact that her fated mate is right here. Will she be able to get out of this week alive?

The story itself is full of up and downs as well as some unexpected turns which made it really enjoyable to red. I liked the style of writing a lot and it kind of just carried me through the book. I mean the story was mostly pretty predictable but that does not make it a bad story. It’s a well written second chance rejected mate love story with some interesting background story. I liked both of the main characters a lot and loved to see them bond again. Especially Dylan with her strength and confidence was a big plus for the book. Overall I would definitely recommend this book and give it 4.5 Stars. I will probably read some of the other books in the series as well.
