I Wish I Would’ve Chosen You : An Angsty Student-Teacher Romance (Forbidden Wishes Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,993 ratings

PLEASE AVOID THE BLURB FOR THIS BOOK.
This story will hurt you
a lot less if you scroll by and go in BLIND, trust me…
But if you *have* to know what you're getting into, you can read the synopsis below.

I should've known better.
I should've left her alone…

She told me she was twenty-one.
I found out that was a lie.

There was over a decade between us, and sure, she was mature for her age, but I kept my distance every chance I could.

At least, I tried to.

There aren’t too many places to hide on a boarding school's campus, and there are far more places to get caught…

I never intended for this to happen.
I was her English professor, and she was only supposed to be
my student.

**See?That’s why you shouldn’t have read this blurb and went in blind. Alas, this is an emotional ride of a romance with toxic undertones that will drive you to some unexpected places. The author just felt like writing this story one day, so don't say you weren't warned about what you were getting into.**

I've been reading her since the Reasonable Doubt series was released years ago... Anyway... Student-Teacher trope is not my top favorite trope but this one almost have it all... apart from the student-teacher trope, it's enemies to lovers, and a billionaire romance... so this was what sold me to sign-up. This has more angst than I've expected especially during the 3rd act break-up, which was devastating and just when I thought they wouldn't find each other, they find each other again in the most awkward and heart-wrenching way. Sure, he had a reason but he could've handled it differently... I know I'm being vague but **sigh** this book was rollercoaster ride.

I wish WG would write a book every single day!

Her stories just suck you in and you want to turn the page and ignore the time!

The story line is a sensitive subject Older teacher and young student!

But let’s me clear the student is very intellectual and a master liar! She is wise beyond her years.

To be fair Genevieve is enrolled in a very exclusive private school. Rich brat with celebrity parents that does not give her any attention. She is an aspiring writer and she loves Poetry readings and meeting famous authors. But she is still in high school.

Liam is a hedge funds manager but a literary expert himself! She meets Genevieve in a bar and is instantly attracted to her. Little does he know she is one of his new students at the new assignment he has.

After he finds out that she is 18 yo and a student he does everything in his power to avoid her but he is attracted to her beyond anything he has ever felt!

Genevieve does not have friends and Liam becomes her friend, mentor and challenges her work more than anyone she has ever known. But the sequence of events unfolding is more than either of them bargain for!

I absolutely loved this older man young student book

I love Whitney G. I get her books and can't put them down. This was another one. I couldn't stop reading it. I read the Blurb of the book and thought I wasn't going to be for me because a teacher and a student? Nope. But then I read it.
Wow. Genevieve is intellectual and wants to connect cerebrally with people but she doesn't find that with the students her age. She leaves her school campus and travels to Boston to find what she's missing - people who understand her and can hold a decent conversation regarding literature. She meets Liam on a night out and she's so excited for a great connection. It turns out that Liam is a new teacher at her school and he isn't excited after learning that she lied to him.
Liam tries to stay away from Genevieve but she doesn't make it easy for him to. He's captivated with her and her thoughts. They start a forbidden relationship.
Whitney's writing leads you to see how some of the teacher student relationships can be. I had to remember that this is fiction and although we see it happen in reality, this was not based off of reality.
Also, I liked seeing a sneak peek at a new character coming out soon! And.....this school has been mentioned previously - hello Mr. Statham. I just want to know - Whitney, do you like the name Liam? Reasonable Doubt had a Liam too? I love how all of these books tie into one another without taking away from the other stories.
If you want a book by a good author that will make you question your thoughts, this is it.

I don’t know how Whitney does it but she is killing these stories! I absolutely loved Liam and Genevieve. Their story was amazing, so complex and just kept me roped the whole time. The plot twists always takes me out. You end up feeling like you won’t recover but then in the end you do! I can’t wait for book number 3. This is definitely my favorite series by her. This book was an absolute literary gem. I definitely recommend to other readers. You won’t regret it!

**Book Review: "I Wish I Would've Chosen You" by Whitney G.**

Whitney G.'s "I Wish I Would've Chosen You" is a contemporary romance that explores the forbidden relationship between Genevieve Edwards, a high school student, and Liam Donovan, her temporary creative writing professor. Despite the intriguing premise and Whitney G.'s signature witty dialogue, the book falls short in several key areas.

The story kicks off with an engaging opening where Genevieve, using a fake ID, attends a bar event and meets Liam. Their initial connection is electric, setting the stage for a captivating romance. The chemistry between them is palpable, with a tension that keeps readers invested. Whitney G.'s knack for banter shines through in their interactions, bringing humor and charm to the narrative.

However, the novel's promising start is undermined by a rushed and convoluted second half. After Genevieve and Liam's relationship intensifies, the plot introduces numerous twists that feel underdeveloped and hurried. The narrative pace quickens excessively, leaving little room for emotional depth or character development. Key plot points, such as the blackmail that leads to their separation, are inadequately explored, leaving readers with unanswered questions and a sense of dissatisfaction.

One of the standout elements is the portrayal of Genevieve's intelligence and passion for creative writing. Her character is relatable and endearing, and her interactions with Liam are often filled with engaging dialogue. The forbidden aspect of their relationship adds a layer of intrigue, but the execution feels predictable and lacks the depth needed to make it truly compelling.

The book also suffers from several continuity errors and grammatical mistakes that disrupt the reading experience. For instance, there are inconsistencies in the portrayal of events and character actions, such as Genevieve's sudden loss of her shirt in a scene without any prior indication.

Additionally, the secondary characters and subplots, like Genevieve's interactions with her parents and her roommate, feel underdeveloped and sometimes unnecessary. The lack of an epilogue further detracts from the overall satisfaction, leaving readers without closure on several plot threads.

In terms of romance, the novel delivers on steamy scenes and passionate encounters, with Liam's dirty talk and their physical connection being highlights. However, the rapid progression of their relationship from initial attraction to deep love feels forced, and the emotional stakes are not fully realized.

Overall, "I Wish I Would've Chosen You" has its moments of charm and wit, particularly in the first half. However, the rushed plot, lack of development, and unresolved issues detract from the overall enjoyment. Fans of Whitney G.'s previous works might find elements to appreciate, but this book does not reach the heights of her best offerings.

    **Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5 stars)**
    **Burn: 🔥🔥🔥**

I hate when ppl can’t be mature about break ups. Brett is a jerk. I did enjoy the story, however, their relationship changed very abruptly. And not in a natural way. Like one minute he pushed her away and the next he was all in. I feel there should have been a little more between that time. Also, Gen is a little liar and I really feel bad for Liam. She could’ve legitimately ruined his life. I’m sure there are many men who get railroaded like that. That’s not ok. I might have missed it but I would’ve really enjoyed learning who was spying on them and blackmailed him. I’m assuming the other teacher but I don’t think it was mentioned. Can’t wait for the next one.

As soon I saw the offer on my kindle - i definitely put this on my list to read. I started today and finished in a few hours. I couldn’t put in down. It’s that excellent! I feel Genevieve characters as intelligent so frank and made some tough choices at the end because of love. That’s a deep analysis for her.
I haven’t read some romance that Whitney G had written but I’m so glad - I’m back!
