Is Luna destined for a happily ever after, or is it "game over" for her love life?
Move to the adorable town of Brookhaven? Check.
Get bumped to first class on the train and meet the most gorgeous, considerate man of my life? Check.
Find a job in video game animation and a cozy apartment of my own? Not so much.
So maybe things in Brookhaven aren’t quite as idyllic as my friend promised. My one saving grace is playing video games every evening with my best online friend, MidKnight. Plus, helping him create his own video game helps me escape the drudgery of my demanding twin bosses and a dusty, cramped apartment.
It’s not long before our relationship turns from friendly to…a lot more personal.
Things get complicated when I run into the man from the train again. He couldn’t forget about me either, and he’s been searching for me. I can’t deny the intense physical attraction we have, but I feel like my heart is being pulled in two directions. But there are things that both guys don’t know about me.
Being brave isn’t my strong suit, but maybe it’s time to find some courage.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2025Cinder Luna is a dual POV Rom-com Cinderella retelling with hidden identities and instant chemistry. I love fairy tale retellings, but I haven't ever read one that didn't have any fantasy elements. I was pleasantly surprised by how fond I was of this modern take on a beautiful classic. Everything fit together so well. The story was so much fun to read. I enjoyed the gaming aspects, even though I'm not a gamer (though, I did used to play a mean game of Mario Kart).
The writing is really well done and kept me entertained and laughing. The main characters, Luna and Henry, were so loveable and kind hearted. The side characters played their supporting roles well.
I loved it so much that I ended up purchasing the audiobook so I can experience it again in a different way! And since my order of Isabelle and the Beast (the second in the series) arrived yesterday, I can't wait to get back into this beautifully written world of fun and interesting characters.
I definitely recommend Cinder Luna if you love retellings full of humor, heart, and love. This is not your typical retelling and gives you a fresh and sweet take on an old classic. I seriously loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2025It was a cute retelling. I loved the way she told it. The ending was honestly my favorite part. 😍 I got a little confused about the bakery differences fir a little bit, but then later in the book it cleared up for me. I love a good night in shining armor story!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2025This is a sweet romance with interesting characters and some that aren't nice people at all. I liked Luna but now how she let other people take advantage of her. Henry is a great guy. It was interesting how both had loving families with their own issues and both felt like they were always trying to prove themselves. I liked the different aspects of the Cinderella story, the video gamer angle. I wondered how both Luna and Henry didn't recognize each other's voices once they started working on his game and talking. The ending was great.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024I LOVE the video game aspect.
The adaptation of the fairytale to a modern setting interesting.
The grammar is clean.
I think the hero was too perfect / unrealistic, except for the part about being upset that Luna hid her gender online (hello, she's a female gamer. Does he play video games or not?! It should have been obvious to him why she did it).
It's not the author's fault, but I was very annoyed by Luna's doormat-ness / passivity. Especially in a working adult who has other options... Sigh. Original Cinderella needs to grow a spine, so it's typical of a Cinderella retelling.
**Spoiler warning**
I also did not like the power dynamic at the ending with Luna working for Henry, especially given how we'd already seen how Luna was affected by their differences in financial situation. It just seems super unhealthy for her to be financially dependent on him again.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2025My critique of Marie's previous book was that it was too short. She remedied that in this book, which was absolutely perfect. Luna was delightful as Cinderella, and the modern setting that fit the fairy tale story was clever. I wouldn't have thought a fairy tale could so easily fit the modern world. Henry as Prince Charming was also perfect. It's nice for the hero of the story to be such a decent person.
There were a ton of twists, entertaining side characters, video game and reality TV references, and really fun world building in a world that seemed closer to home than most fairy tales. I loved every second of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2025The characters and plot are fun. I recommend for a fun read. Escape to someone else's troubles for a change.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2025I really enjoyed this story! The characters were so sweet and easy to root for, and the way the classic fairytale was retold was unique and heart warming. I loved how video games were incorporated into it too!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2025I’ve never read this author before. This is a really great book. I didn’t think I’d connect with a romance about a female gamer. I was so wrong. The characters are wonderful, the storyline was perfect and I found myself smiling throughout the book. This is the best feel good romance I’ve ever read. Just pure, wholesome and SO romantic! I loved the twist on Cinderella. Luna is a doll and Henry is sexy and sweet. All the side characters play a big role as well and I can’t say enough good things about them. I’m really looking forward to reading Adam’s book. He’s Henry’s big brother, the movie star with the scandal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
This book exceeded my expectations. The characters are relatable and amazing. Their romance is swoon worthy and sweet. I loved how they first met and how she finally told him the truth near the end. But all the moments in between, nods to Cinderella, really made it come alive too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love modern retellings of fairytales, and this one totally nailed it.
I love to see the different ways authors twist them to fit the real world.
Marie did an incredible job twisting Cinderella (Luna is way better than her... And we have gamers!).
Luna and Henry have and instantaneous connection (in person and online) and the development of their story is cutely awesome, (just like a modern fairytale 😉) and their lifes has been unknowingly connect for a while. They're just ment to be.
I loved that there isn't evill stepmother and stepsisters, Luna has a loving family. Instead, the evil cames in the form of the twin bosses/landlords of her. They are not super evil, just very abusive ("work" related)... and not very nice persons. We don't have cool mice either, but the evil cat could be considered a friend in disguise.
This is the first book of Marie Soleil that I read, and I can already tell I found a new favorite author, the way she writes mades you impossible to stop reading. It was an honor to be part of the ARC team for this beauty. I need to run and read the previous series so I'll have the juice details of all the established couples.
I'm so excited to read this whole series. Can't wait to read Adam's story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three and a half stars
Three and a half stars - I liked the similarities between the traditional Cinderella story and this modern plot. The h was initially a bit too accommodating - although she stood up for herself eventually. The H is a real Prince Charming of a BBF.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
Excellent retelling on the Cinderella story in a very modern way. I was hooked by the first chapter. Very memorable and well done

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars
There were many things I liked about this book, including the premise, the characters, and some of the dialogue. Unfortunately, I found some aspects of the storyline too improbable.i kept being pulled out of the story with a feeling of “this just doesn’t work.” Either the author was sinking too deeply into literary cliches or glossing over small details that I felt needed greater justification.
I don’t regret reading this book. I appreciate how sweet it was. I just think a touch more realism could have made it better.
