Looking for love, Moriel Reis finds it—but why here?

A professional teacher by day, Moriel learns that students can sometimes be the best teachers. Eighteen-year-old Scott Cooper and Itsuma Karter, two of his students share similar interests—including lust for each other. Emotions flare when Itsuma challenges “Mr. Reis’s” authority.

After Moriel harshly disciplines Itsuma in front of the entire class, the young student vows to regain a piece of his wounded pride back. Torn by loyalty for his smoldering friend and classmate, Scott Cooper watches his homeroom teacher with dreamy, lust-filled eyes.

The heated conflict begins a fiery battle between Itsuma and his teacher. As this passion translation becomes a lustful tale, a surprising ‘hot for teacher’ story becomes a love affair, and a passionate adventure.

This out of the ordinary exploration for the two students allows them entrance into a world of erotic confessions, taking them on a journey into the velvet art of seduction that begins when the fighting ends. But as their taboo sexual persuasions beckon for something more, in lies the question… do two wrongs make a right?

Moriel, Scott, and Itsuma learn the answer.

I give this story 3-1/2 stars, mainly because it really needs an editor's professional touch. The characters were fairly well developed and the book was a quick read, it would just be a whole lot better with some editing. The artwork, both cover and at chapter starts, was a little weird too. This was a modern adult story and the artwork makes it look more like medieval story meant for the YA audience, which is a little concerning considering the graphic sexual content.

The story also has a problem with believability, in that the main character thinks no one knows he's gay - even after he ended up in the hospital (and newspapers) after a disastrous sexual encounter when he was in high school. The way high school gossip works, I would say that everyone who knew him knew he's gay. It was also a little difficult to believe that the principle knew what was going on with him and his students and turned a blind eye - don't think that would happen whether they were 18 or not. These types of things make me classify this as a fantasy.

That said, the characters are pretty well developed and the sexual encounters are well done. The story moves at a good pace and this book was a quick read.

If you have a problem with a lot of sexual content that includes some kink or homosexual story lines, then this is not the book for you. If this is your scene, though, you'll find it's an entertaining fantasy.

Seducing Sensai takes its name from a popular meme that is popular among manga lovers, even though the novel isn’t really manga itself (don’t be confused by the cover). It did, however, have fun pictures throughout the book, which helped aid in the progression of the story.
Overall, the story went by very quickly and was fun to read. I wouldn’t say I felt any romance between the characters, but this is clearly erotic fiction. The characters were well developed though and I could feel them coming off of the page as I read. They even seemed to become friends of mine by the time I neared the end of the book and endured their experiences.
This book could use a little editing to help with the flow of the text, but all in all it is a good read. The plot is easy to follow and the story will leave you waiting for book 2.

California author Stephanie McGibben has been writing since 2012 – novels and short stories ‘about dark hearts and heroes revolving around social taboos.’ She lives in Southern California near the Santa Monica mountains. Acquainted with Japanese vocabulary she includes the word ‘sensei’ (teacher) in her title and Senpai (senior member of a group in Japanese arts - mentor) for this series. That alone opens doors for the inquisitive mind.

Stephanie jumps into a potentially (and subsequently) erotic situation from her opening paragraph as we meet Moriel Reis, a sensei or teacher – ‘Of all the schools to substitute teach, coming back to my own high school was a surprise. Now, at twenty-three, it felt strange wearing my best Oxford shoes, Nordstrom slacks, and Calvin Klein button-up shirt and tie in the hallways of my old stomping ground. What was freakier was my old shop teacher smiling at me from down the crowded hall. This time, I wasn’t his student, but a fellow teacher. Mr. Goyas was a bear of a man. Height-wise my old shop teacher was larger than any of the students. His vertical stature only served to make him stand out even more. Mr. Goyas waved me down from across the hall of passing students. Old habits overcame my sense. My cheeks warmed a little. Like a puppy, I wagged my proverbial tail and rushed right over to him. I’d liked him even way back, when I took his class. But I wouldn’t dare tell him that….
When I was a pupil here, for all I knew, I was the only gay student on campus.’

What Stephanie has created is a seduction story that involves a teacher and two students, the teacher being almost as you as the two students so it is a credible story. In language and actions very much in uses in the present day classroom, this story unfolds naturally with the sensei, a sexy cowboy and a hot martial artist.

The synopsis Stephanie provides in her book distills the story well – ‘Looking for love, Moriel Reis finds it—but why here? Moriel, Scott, and Itsuma learn the answer.’

A unique gay romance novel written by an author who understands the lingo and the erotica of same sex encounters, Stephanie McGibben should find a strong audience for her daring. Grady Harp, April 17

I normally don't read erotica but I think the author provides more than enough story line for it to be interesting.  I didn't necessarily agree with the dynamic of the relationship between Mr. Reis, Itsuma and Scott but the author made it work. I think  it is unethical for Mr. Reis to engage in a relationship with Itsuma and Scott but they are both 18 years of age (adults) so no laws are being broken.  The characters are well developed if sometimes annoying. Reis is fighting his own insecurities and demons of his past while trying to help Itsuma and Scott. Itsuma is arrogant with a take charge personality who although super smart under achieves to fit in with friends. Scott is a shy, sweet guy who is also super smart but has a nightmarish home life due to an abusive father.
The story pace is steady and will hold your attention.  I liked that as part of Reis inner struggle he felt uncomfortable with his relationship with Itsuma and Scott. I felt like it made him as a character more realistic and relatable. Just a word of warning, the sex scenes are very descriptive and kinky. Overall, good read for anyone who likes male on male erotica with a little kink.

Seducing Sensei (Notice Me Senpai Book 1) written by S.N. McKibben is a graphically erotic novel that includes very strong male homosexual events. That being said, I found the story was very well written and author did a wonderful job with the descriptions throughout the book and her overall ability to pull the reader in, was exceptional. This novel revolves around three main characters, two students and a teacher. Although this is somewhat of an off-limits topic to write about/read about, both students are of legal age and the teacher is quite young (23). Moriel Reis is a teacher who accepts to substitute teach at his old high school. He’s having a good time of it, except for two students, Itsuma and Scott. Considering the target audience is not myself, I actually quite enjoyed this novel. The topic of abuse comes up through the book, and I believe the author did a wonderful job with the discussion and the way each situation was worded. Overall it was a great book.

3.0 out of 5 stars More explicit than Fifty Shades of Grey

I bought this book seduced by its title into imagining a love story, set in the picturesque water gardens of Japan, with perhaps a smidgen of erotic content. I could not have been more wrong! There is a love story, but it is between three young men. The content is graphic to say the least and I was shocked to discover that the author is a woman. There is not a sexual encounter that goes unreported and, frankly, for me it was all too much information. As a teacher, I was also shocked that the protagonist has no hesitation about engaging in sexual relationships with two of his students. This is an absolutely no-go area yet even the principal seems to have no problem with it.
