"Sell Yourself Like a CEO" is an absolute must-read for anyone looking to elevate their personal brand and attract high-quality opportunities. The book is packed with actionable strategies that help you embody the confidence, clarity, and charisma of top-level executives.

What I loved most is how practical and engaging the advice is. Ryan breaks down complex concepts into simple, easy-to-follow steps that can be applied immediately. Whether you're an entrepreneur, job seeker, or professional looking to level up, this book gives you the mindset and tools to position yourself as a high-value asset in any industry.

If you’ve ever struggled with self-promotion or felt like you weren’t getting the recognition you deserve, this book will change the way you present yourself and your value to the world. Highly recommend!

Anyone can gain wisdom from the principles laid out concisely by Ryan in this book (I personally like “Be interested, not interesting” as a way to supercharge charisma). Simply taking time to go through the worksheets he includes will provide valuable insights. I encourage anyone to not only read the book but more importantly put the key principles into action on a daily basis.

Ryan's book "Sell Yourself Like a CEO" is an accessible book packed with great reminders and relevant practical recommendations and exercises. It concisely describes the key aspects of a highly effective leader (clarity, confidence, and charisma), and step-by-step practical guide to improve on each aspect. The book also summarizes the major steps during executive career advancement and the common pitfalls. Ryan has incorporated his 16-year Executive Search Consultant experiences into the book to illustrate the key points. Understandably, more details in the case studies might not be sharable. Still, a richer story-telling narrative could make the book more enjoyable. The impact of this book is not directly from the pages themselves, instead, it will depend on how much the reader puts into the reflections, exercises, and application of the concepts. Highly recommend this book as a framework for ambitious professionals to check their blind spots while advancing their careers.

Ryan Sheppard’s “Sell Yourself Like a CEO” is a well-written digest of real-world examples of high-potential talents who’ve sold themselves short when competing for senior roles. Ryan shares valuable reminders throughout of the mindset and preparation needed to ensure you show up as competitively as possible for important career discussions and interviews. Fundamentally, he emphasizes the need to have a clear understanding of where you want to be in the future and your general plan to get there. As he points out within, no one is going to hire or follow someone who doesn’t know where they want to be in five years. Throughout the book there are valuable tips and exercises to help refine your interview skills and career storytelling approach. Having seen too many careers sidetracked by a lack of these critical skills, I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in investing in themselves and their professional development.

“Sell Yourself Like a CEO” by Ryan Sheppard is a heartfelt exploration of personal branding and professional growth, offering an engaging premise for anyone looking to elevate their career. The book showcases Ryan’s passion for helping others succeed, with practical insights and relatable anecdotes. An impressive first effort that paves the way for more to come—I’m looking forward to seeing how Ryan continues to develop his voice as an author in future works.

Ryan Sheppard knows a lot about how CEOs think and act. He's helped hundreds navigate their career, position themselves as experts, and ensure their work aligns with their personal North Star. In this book, he shares that wisdom in a crisp, digestible fashion, pairing his insights with practical steps anyone can take to take charge of their life. Whether you aspire to occupy a C-Suite office or you just want to feel more in control of whatever your patch happens to be, Sheppard will inspire confidence and action. You'll realize the power and importance of investing in yourself. In this age of near constant disruption, I can't think of a better takeaway!.
  • Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2025
If you’ve ever been told to “write a business plan”, but have no idea what that looks like, you’ll appreciate Ryan’s walking you through career strategy and into the specifics of networking (another slippery term) and into transitioning into a new role.

There’s meaty info here for every step in your career. I’m a little further along than most, but half this book can be used to coach employees and mentees and the other half are for myself, whether reminders or new methods to try.
