Shooting Gallery (John Kite Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 321 ratings

PI John Kite wants revenge! Injured while recovering a stolen picture, Kite is shocked to find his efforts were in vain. Deceived by a long-running fraud, he wants to get even. And nail the guilty. But Kite’s search for the truth uncovers a secret so dangerous, so well guarded, that those who learn it are killed. There’s murder in Massachusetts, and a lethal blast in London. Kite becomes a wanted man himself. He gets covert help from a courageous woman close to the perpetrators and together they fight in the air and on the ground to persuade those in power they’re right, before they can be taken out themselves. A “feelgood thriller”.
"Have enjoyed every Kite book... the crazy adventures... such a cool protagonist!”
“This one hits it out of the park again.”
“John Kite is always a great read.” (Amazon Reviews)

"There’s a lot going on in my crime thriller books," says author Stuart Doughty, "but there's also stuff you may not find in other writers' books. There are murders, heists, chases, but also quirky characters, snappy dialogue, and a sense of humour. My main character, British PI John Kite, is a tough guy who can fight, climb, drive fast and is a police-trained marksman, but he's also intelligent, amusing and thoughtful - even sensitive - on occasions. At age 19, Kite discovered his father was a professional criminal, so he changed his name, and changed his life to join the police. Now, as a PI, he still strives to atone for his father’s crimes. Specialising in hunting stolen artworks, he crosses continents to fight crime – and save the world from the mayhem threatened by despots, tycoons, warlords, and foreign agents.”

Stuart was born in London, England. He spent most of his life working as a Television Producer, making popular drama series and soaps.

    I'm not sure how I ordered this book, but I am glad I did. It was interesting, not any of that over the top hero crap and had a interesting protagonist. Not a difficult read, just what I needed for a winter weekend read;

    This is the second John Kite book that I’ve read and enjoyed very much. Follow this new hero as he works to solve the latest crime in the world of art, an area that few of us have been exposed to before. Great fun and engaging storylines.

    John Kite retrieves stolen art artifacts and he is good at it. He is also good at getting into tight spots. John is a whirlwind this time, taking him to different countries. Mystery and mayhem follow where he goes. I enjoyed this book!

    This is a reasonable yarn - but too drawn out … the author seemed keener to increase the word count that to please the reader.
    There are quantum (oft irrational and exacerbated) leaps in deductive logic.
    There are illogical gaps in the plot and silly errors like the bad guy dropping his rifle and running away - only to be shooting back with the same rifle a few scenes later.
    It's another of those tales where the villain/s of the tale have no qualms about killing people but only capture the goodies…so they can escape. And this escape (frustratingly drawn out) will have you laughing aloud at the total incongruity of it all!

    John is a strong character with clear views on right and wrong. Investigating and recovering a stolen painting raises more questions than answers. Who is loyal to truth? Who aligns themselves with John read and find out. I couldn't put the book down until finished.

    I started reading this, like any other book, slow and steady, not sure what to expect; I mean how exciting or gripping could a story be about an art gallery.
    I couldn’t put the book down, l am now looking for more stories of John Kite. Great writing by Stuart Doughty.

    Plenty of action and detecting and really nice set of characters, bad cops and dumb politicians plus arch villain and family. John has his work cut out and is lucky to find a girlfriend/sidekick who can do everything to help him prove the art is fake and the man is even more so.
