    A well written chilling mystery! Detective Marcy is haunted by her childhood, unknown father, hearing her mother's screams while she hid under the bed with her brother. Her mother was the victim of the face flayer who removed the facial skin on the victims. The characters are interesting! Multiple points of view are expressed, revelations about the past, effects of childhood trauma and healing.

    How would you feel if a serial killer decided to make you the center of his attention? 26 years ago LAPD Detective Marcy Kendrick was present when a serial killer murdered her mother. Is he back or is this a copy cat?
    I really enjoyed the correlation that was brought up during the cat and mouse games between the killer and Det. Kendrick, does violence beget violence? Does Det. Kendrick have a higher rate of officer involved shootings because of her childhood trauma? Thought provoking!

    Det. Kendrick is a strong, driven character that I am excited to follow into the next books. She has typical struggles in the male dominated profession but to a more difficult degree, her ex is her boss. Thankfully she had an amazing partner, Angel, who should be ready for action come book 2.

    Can't wait for the next books in this series! Thank you to the author, Theo Baxter, and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this book!

    Wow this was a crazy thrilling mysterious story; at one time I thought I had it figured out who was this sick pyscho focused on
    detective Marcy who also plays mind games with all the people
    in her life. I almost thought it was her brothers friend at one point but the clues just kept coming along with more thrilling mysterious things happening along the way.
    This is definitely one of the best Detective Thrillers I have read in
    A long while.

    This is the 1st in a series about Detective Marcy Kendrick. Her mother was killed when she was 12 by the serial killed known as Face Flayer. Now she is called into a case, 26 years later, with a woman being killed, exactly like the serial killer. But, that couldn't be. The Face Flayer was thought to be dead by drowning, even though his body was not found.

    When Marcy's partner, Angel, was in a car accident, she hasn't been assigned another partner and that's okay with her. She can work alone. But this one serial killer, has killed again, and has also
    sent email messages to Marcy. Now it's personal. Does this killer know her, is is someone close?
