Finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards!

After surviving an abduction by the hands of a serial killer, Hazel Watson, along with her police officer boyfriend, and spirit best friend, are looking forward to their brand of normalcy.

But the spirit of a murdered man shows up in Hazel’s apartment. He’s not just any man, however. He’s the man Candy was murdered over. This, once again, throws their world into chaos, causing her to rethink what had never been questioned.

Did the police have the right man in prison?

Hazel tests powers she never knew she had and finds herself caught up in a tangled case of obsession and murder.

The more she navigates the killer’s past, the more entangled her life becomes, until it endangers those she loves.

Forced to put those closest to her in the line of fire, Hazel Watson marches into the dangerous world of a psychotic killer, led by the spirits of their victims. Can she bring their havoc to an end?

Raised in a small town in the heart of Louisiana's Cajun Country, C. A. Varian spent most of her childhood fishing, crabbing, and getting sunburnt at the beach. Her love of reading began very young, and she would often compete at school to read enough books to earn prizes.

Graduating with the first of her college degrees as a mother of two in her late twenties, she became a public-school teacher, which is the career she still has today. She teaches special education at a local middle school. As of June 1, 2023, however, she will be writing full time!

C.A. Varian is married to a retired military officer, so she spent many years moving around for his career, but they now live in central Alabama, with her youngest daughter, Arianna. Her oldest daughter, Brianna, no longer lives at home and is happily married. She has two Shih Tzus that she considers her children. Boy, Charlie, and girl, Luna, are their mommy’s shadows. She also has three cats: Ramses, Simba, and Cookie.

I love reading about Hazel and Candy. They are a delightful couple. The story has Cajun mystery, with a few twists and turns. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

I liked this one so much more than the last one! The things each person experienced felt more realistic and the storyline was great. I’m so excited for the next one!

I am enjoying this series as the friendship between Candy and Hazel grows. Also Hazel and Tate’s love relationship.
I like how Hazel wants to help Candy and Jake find their killer. This was an edge of your seat read. As well as all the others who look to Hazel for help.
It’s a quick and enjoyable read and I would recommend.
I am looking forward to Hazels next adventure,

I will start off by saying that while I am a fan of the genre, I am not a big fan of the series. I don't connect with the MC and in some places, the story drags for and seems to jump all over the place with too much going on in other spots.
However, I love all the details the author includes in the story and the fact that all of the characters show growth.
This book is better than the first and if you are looking to for a fun, cozy, mystery, this book is pretty good for that.

I want to know these characters. I want to be friends with them and follow their lives. I like that Hazel talks to and helps ghosts. I love that her best friend is a ghost. To me this author is unique and I’ll read whatever she writes!

Too many inconsistencies--can you touch a ghost or not? How can Hazel hug Candy or squeeze her hand? Hazel doesn't want Candy to cross over because she's her best friend. Sounds selfish. The abrupt scene changes, going from interrogating Harmony about Jake's death to a seduction scene with Tate were jarring and perplexing. Hazel is so whiny and needy she's not a likeable character. She just reacts to situations. She managed to finish law school and pass the bar, so she can't be as stupid as she's written. Too many short, choppy sentences and not enough descriptions. They lived through a hurricane and that received a few paragraphs. They lost power, played games, then it was over. More inconsistencies--the police questioned Harmony so they should have her address. Why does Hazel need to follow her to find out where she lives? And Candy's a ghost, why doesn't she just ride along with Harmony, then report the address to Hazel?
This book has so much potential with a terrific story line. Too bad the main character is so wimpy, and her sidekick is so one dimensional.

Justice for the Slain picks up right where The Sapphire Necklace leaves off and continues with the new mystery at hand with brilliant grace. Hazel is struggling at this point and why wouldn't she, she killed a horrible man in self defense and now her nightmares are horrific and terrifying. But, what if they aren't all nightmares? What if they are visions or visits from other spectral beings? Tate is there for her just as she has always dreamed of and she is learning to have a bit more confidence at least she is trying. Candy and Jake have reunited but will this be the love story continuance that Candy has hoped for? Hurricanes, wrongful convictions, mysteries on top of mysteries and they are still going strong.
I have absolutely enjoyed watching Tate, Hazel and Candy grow as personalities and the world building here has been very telling, the descriptions are intense and in depth so much so I found myself completely immersed in this story and even though the author says that Candy is her favorite, I totally adore Hazel and am enjoying her embracing her own sense of maturity and learning about her gift. I absoutely recommend this book and I have found it family friendly.

FANTASTIC book. This is book 2 of Hazels and Candy's adventures. It  can be read as a stand alone, although there is a prequel and book 1 of the series. (Which are fabulous)

Justice is a well written 'who done it' book. The characters develop throughout the series, this book shows Hazels growth. Her 'psychic' skills are improving as well as her understanding of them. I love the pacing of the book, and the bits of history of NOLA. This series is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites.
Justice has it all romance, mystery a touch of humor and of course the paranormal aspect of it. I can not wait to see what the future brings to Hazel, Tate and Candy.
