Small Town Girl: a friends to lovers coming of age romantic comedy (Kissing Creek Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

Dixie might belong in Kissing Creek, but she’s got too many reasons to leave.

A decade ago, I had a plan. I’d graduate high school and make my place in the small southern town I belonged to. I’d leave my daddy’s run-down single-wide and ignore him when he got ugly. I’d send my mama to voicemail when she called from her fancy life in Chicago. Mostly, I’d wait for Deke to get through college and come back to me and the life we’d build together. I didn’t realize how suddenly plans can change.

Author’s Note: Kick back and enjoy this sweet and sexy small-town romantic comedy set in Kissing Creek, Tennessee—Book One of the Heart of Dixie trilogy featuring Dixie and Deke.
Heart of Dixie was originally released a few years ago, set in the fictional small town of Moreover, Tennessee. You may have read it. If so, you probably loved it *grins* But sometimes, even authors need a do-over. Because I was so in love with these characters and their history together, I decided to introduce the setting’s name change in a prequel novella of their origin story and, well, oops! Got a little carried away while writing. Then I decided I wanted a bonus epilogue for y’all—and what do you know? Uh oh. Same thing happened. Now we have three books to binge. Heads up, you hopeless romantics, Small Town Girl ends with a cliffhanger, but Heart of Dixie (Book Two) is available for your immediate reading pleasure. Ruthie xoxo

Editorial Reviews

Review

I am so captivated by these characters and can't wait to see what more will happen in this trilogy. Small town life is not for the faint of heart and this promises to be a sweet and steamy series - I can't wait for more! J.Allen, 5-star Amazon Review

This just happened to be a gripping yet tiny soupcon of a tale that has me ensnared. I am hooked on this compelling, angsty, and sizzling coming-of-age story, which is quite surprising as I'm no fan of angst, yet I must know what happens to these people. I am intrigued yet outraged that I have to wait several weeks for another serving of this addictive saga. Ruthie Henrick is an evil minx, she is also a talented storyteller but cliffhangers are diabolical contrivances. Honolulubelle, 5-star Amazon Review

I feel like Ruthie Henrick nailed Dixie. All of the conflicting emotions and actions of a teenager. The big love that wanted to burst out of her body. The willingness to sacrifice it all, even her own heart to ensure the promise of the person who meant the most to her, Deke.
And ohhhhhh that ending! I can't wait to see what's in store for Deke and Dixie as they come face to face years after their happiness fell apart. I just know it's going to be a powder keg of emotion. Ashley Jasper, 4-star Goodreads Review

I quasi remember reading about Dixie and Deke a handful of years ago so I was excited to go back and meet them in the before. When they were young and life was full of possibility.

I feel like Ruthie Henrick nailed Dixie. All of the conflicting emotions and actions of a teenager. The big love that wanted to burst out of her body. The willingness to sacrifice it all, even her own heart to ensure the promise of the person who meant the most to her, Deke.

This is the start of a series. Set in the town of Kissing Creek. Dixie is returning home for a funeral. As she returns memories of the last time she was in town take over.
She was in love with Deke. They were making plans for after high school. Things take a drastic turn for them both.

This book has set the series up really nicely. It gave good back story on what Dixie went through before her departure. It also shows how deeply her and Deke care for each other. I am super excited to see what develops now that Dixie is back in Kissing Creek.

Dixie is a very complex character. She is dealing with so much as a teenager. Her conflicts are very layered and she seems to handle them well. I love the support she has in Deke and her other best friend Beth. They give her the safe place she needs when things are hard for her.

This book leaves off on multiple cliff hangers. There is Dixie leaving and returning. I am looking forward to the next installment.

    Favorite Quotes:

“I’m a pillar of the community, I tell ya. Folks admire me.” Of course they did. He was as moral as Adolf Hitler.

Places change; people change. Sometimes they grow into each other better with time. Could be the same with you.

This is book 1 in Hendrick's Kissing Creek series. A short, well written read that is the perfect intro to this series. Dixie and Deke are our main characters in this read and Dixie is coming back to this small town for a funeral. I am so captivated by these characters and can't wait to see what more will happen in this trilogy. Small town life is not for the faint of heart and this promises to be a sweet and steamy series - I can't wait for more!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

I received an arc of this book and this is my honest review. Dixie has had a difficult childhood and now has a major life decision to make. Duke does not want to lose Dixie and is willing to give up everything to stay with her. I can’t wait to see what happens in their life’s going forward.

Small Town Girl is the first book, a novella, in the Heart of Dixie trilogy.
We get introduced to Dixie and Zeke and how life in a small town is going for them.
This is my first book by Ruthie and I loved it. I haven’t read the original story, so I’m excited to read the rest of the trilogy. I’m curious how everything will turn out for them.
This is a sweet and sexy series, makes you want for more….
