    I do so love Tallean Mercenaries! This is one terrific series filled with the right amounts of action, angst and passion. Abby has been on Reka 5 for several years she a friends and apartment and a job she loves with a grumpy alien boss she has a crush on. She's on her way home before a terrible snow storm nits but when she gets there her deadbeat dad has tried to use her to pay off his gambling debt. She makes a run for it and hides at Work. Grogen 's on his way out to his secluded cabin before the storm hits. He didn't want to see his Receptionist Abby go to the Solstice celebration. His Crush on her is only deepening and he doesn't feel worthy of her. When his sole slam goes off and he checks the camera and sees Abby he knows so.e thing wrong. The chemistry is hot the characters are well written and its a fun, spicy winter treat.     So, it was spicy but not super spicy. The size difference was described, but then it didn't exist and went way too quickly. There is only two scenes, one spice and one steam (I think of steam as a lot of edging and foreplay while spice is the deed and how descriptive it is.)
    It was a very good story, but I didn't like that these aliens can't reproduce naturally with humans and have to have medical assistance. It's logical, I know, but "fireworks" without leading to a baby is lackluster for me. I'm sure lots of people prefer this route but I don't, so I probably won't read anymore of this series.
    Sure the guys were bigger and handsome with claws and cool jaws, but there wasn't any extra "spicy" bits.

    I haven't read anything by this author before, but I dig a good alien mates story every once in a while. I picked this up to see if the series it's connected to might be worth my while.

    The premise of this novella, I liked. The Tallean seem the kind of alien males I can easily get into. Grogen's gruff and grumpy demeanor certainly did it for me. But Abby was all over the place. Her progression from being attracted to her boss from afar to acting on her attraction didn't feel earned. All of the external plot was only there to throw these two together. Which wouldn't have been so much of a problem if the writing hadn't been so heavy on exposition instead of character interaction.

    But, yes, I realize that a novella only allows for so much character development and actual plot. All the more reason to ensure hitting all the emotional beats, though, and in this regard the story fell flat due to mentioned overreliance on exposition.

    I'd rate this 3.5 stars, tops, but mostly because I'm interested enough in Talleans to give the series a try despite my misgivings with this novella. Otherwise, my rating might have been lower.
