THE PRIEST'S SECRET - Book 2 of the TOMB, the TEMPLE, the TREASURE
“An exciting action adventure that took me to many places I would have liked to explore. The final chapter is one of the best I have read. Buy it, read it, enjoy it.” (cosmo lit)
“I had been looking forward to the second installment of the Tomb, the Temple, the Treasure for some time now since reading Beginnings, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So when I received the review copy I began reading it at the first opportunity.
From the first chapter I was hooked and found it difficult to stop turning the pages.
Ben’s easy writing style I first encountered in Beginnings, continues in this second installment to make for an effortless read. The locations are atmospheric. The characters are interesting. The story thrilling and well written. The ending was completely unexpected, which I found enormously satisfying. My only criticism of the Priest’s Secret is that it concluded the story. I would have liked it to continue but perhaps that is just me being selfish. An excellent novel that I have no qualms about recommending.” (Indy-review-USA)

Solomon's Treasure - Book 2: The Priest’s Secret

Solomon's Treasure 2 takes place in the mysterious French village of Rennes-le-Chateau, subterranean temples and beneath the Temple Mount in Jerusalem

The mysterious priest of Rennes-le-Chateau, Bérenger Saunière.
When the priest Bérenger Saunière, arrived at the remote hilltop village of Rennes-le-Château back in June 1885, he was greeted by the run down and neglected church of Mary Magdalene. The many holes in the roof did nothing to prevent the rain entering the building to form puddles on the uneven flagstone floor.
Eventually the priest raised enough funds to carry out some essential repairs. This is where the story gets interesting, as it was while these renovations were being carried out that the priest apparently found some parchments in one of the Visigothic stone altar supports. His discovery in the church, whatever it was, is said, in due course to have turned him from a penniless priest into a very rich man.
Saunière, had wasted no time in spending it. With no expense spared, he renovated the church to his exact design. He also purchased the land around the church for the grand buildings projects he had planned and that we can still see today, including the Tour Magdala and a villa.

A treasure map...
Falling mysteriously ill after receiving visitors, Saunière died in 1917 leaving alive only one person who shared his secret, his faithful housekeeper Marie Dénarnaud.
Although she would live on for many years, and hinted of great treasure nearby, Marie took that secret to the grave with her when she died in 1953.
The story had everything a good mystery should: Mysterious characters, unexplained deaths, secret parchments and equally secret societies, but most of all the promise of long lost treasure.
Rumours are that the decorations Saunière was so particular about in his church, were in fact a treasure map to his remaining hoard and the source of his wealth.
They have yet to be deciphered...
A clue example:
Above a demon statue, in itself strange to see in a church, which may be of Asmodeus linked to Solomon's Treasure, are four angels making the sign of the cross. The top angel looks out into the landscape where there is a carved rock chair called, The Devil's Armchair.

About the author

Former global adventurer, currently a writer of thrillers, with a mind full of monsters. Ben Hammott is a British author living in England with his human family and more than the average number of cats.
Most of his published works fall under the broad category of ‘thriller,’ getting there by way of horror, fantasy or historical mystery. Two of his many novels, ‘Hell Ship: The Flying Dutchman’ and ‘Ice Rift,’ are now available on audio.
Though now firmly based back in the UK, he wrote most of his books while travelling across Europe, until a certain global pandemic forced a change of direction. Until that point, he could genuinely style himself as something of an adventurer and explorer, making a few small discoveries and finding his way into locations not seen by the public in decades (including one small misadventure in a dinghy that’s still a sore spot for the person who leant it to him).
When he’s not writing, Ben spends his time exploring his passion for resin moulding and 3D printing, and constructing ever more new climbing places for his cats, while insisting to anybody who will listen that he’s not a cat person.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWritten just as well as the first book in this two book series. I was a little disappointed with a character being killed near the end. However, the exchange with this dead character and J.
Well written, just like the book preceding it. Although one doesn't have to read the first book to enjoy this one, it was well worth reading the first book of the series because of extensive character development. One of the character's death at the end was unexpected, but their conversation with Jesus Christ in the afterlife was entertaining. The book still left the question of Jesus' physical resurrection when his body parts were reunited. I have read similar novels about Jesus and Mary Magdalene escaping to France and having a family. Although these books are entertaining, I am a solid and unwavering believer in The Gospel.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBen Hammott is back with the second book of the The Tomb, The Temple, The Treasure, following his adventures. Beginning where the first book left off, Ben and new companions Creed & Pat embark on finding the ultimate treasure and must find a way of re-hiding it in another country to avoid the Church from getting their hands on it and using it to destroy the fabric of Christian faith. Like the first part, it is full of adventure, excitement and exploring of new tombs. I didn't see what was coming from the beginning to the end. A thrill ride of a lifetime continues.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI think that this novel is too long. Innecessary and endless descriptions. We get it, it is a temple with a catch, and we love to read about Middle Age Mysteries... but enough about Christ and Marie Magdalene, search for a new plot
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNot a bad adventure with a few impossible escapes and a twist ending. A little like Indiana Jones (not Ben who can be stupid) meets the Church and they don’t like each other. If you’re really religious, this novel is not for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBen Hammott is a fabulist, and a fabulous one at that.
However he needs a proof-reader. Maybe I am old
fashion, but I believe that missing articles, verbs and
nouns is a disservice to readers. But, once one accepts
that he has not read what he has written, one can suspend
every belief you might have and enjoy this wild ride.
I loved it; and I have recommended to several readers already,
and I only finished it 3 hours ago.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSo many secret sects want what Ben and Creed found in that tomb in France, but a power seems to thwart those who want it for evil. Raven originally intended to kill Ben for his role in her brother's death, but finds herself joining with them to find a new place to hide this powerful secret that the Vatican and many others would like to possess. They are successful, but at a great price.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBen strikes me as being a relatively inexperienced author, but there is no doubting his joy and enthusiasm, and it comes through clearly in his writing. One thing I have to say is that if Ben paid an editor he should request a refund. This Book, and the other book in this series, were filled with typographical and grammatical errors.
Despite this distraction, I enjoyed these books enough to immediately order the "Lost City" books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Book in a great series, a must read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was the second book of the tale of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem with a group of friends solving an ancient mixture. I loved the main character Ben Harper, along with Creed, Raven and Pat. The ending was completely unexpected and I did not see that coming. The two books need to be read one after the other.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fantastic read......
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am left breathless after this book and shocked to the core that you could kill off such an endearing character (whom I won’t name). Surely there could be a few more books to be written with this character, who is now cut off in their prime?! Four and a half stars due to this untimely death and quite a few typos and grammar errors. Still enjoyed it immensely, thanks Ben!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yet another super writer. I so enjoyed this book
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseYet another super writer .I so enjoyed this book .some of it was very predictable but that's ok ...there were some surprises along the way .it certainly made me think a bit more about the "church" as such ..and none of that really surprised me ! The characters were a bit wooden and behaved rather childishly so I did wonder which age group it was meant for .However I found myself unable to put it down and certainly would read more of this authors books . Yes a very good read
