A Hilarious and Heartening Take on the Pitfalls of Modern Dating

As the clock strikes midnight over a disastrous New Year’s Eve and happy couples celebrate all around her, Kate makes a resolution, hastily scrawled on the back of a napkin, that by next New Year’s Eve she will have found someone of her own to kiss.

But when you’re a forty-something cat mom who’d rather binge Netflix than brave the singles scene, finding someone to kiss turns out to be harder than it sounds. Kate is totally unprepared for navigating hook-up apps, speed dating, and sliding into somebody’s DMs.

With the end of the year rapidly approaching, Kate seems further than ever from reaching her goal. As relationships crumble around her and dark long-kept secrets spill out, could Kate's fixation on her quest cause her to let true love slip through her fingers forever?

Someone to Kiss is a wry and witty romantic comedy, tackling serious issues with real heart.

A New Year's resolution kicks off a dating journey with unexpected and heartwarming results. — Publishers Weekly

Someone to Kiss is the first book in the Saskatchewan Romance series. While part of a series, each book can also be enjoyed as a standalone story.

Review

Jamie Anderson delves into the world of online dating in this charming debut. Anderson adds a deft touch of humor to the story and navigates the clichés of online dating that may just send readers running in horror—from shirtless torsos and puppy dog photos to an office setting that's reminiscent of The Office. A humorous and inspiring story - Publishers Weekly

This book is about so much more than dating in your 40s. It's about friendships, family, acceptance of who you are, knowing your worth, and never settling for less. A very funny, yet moving story
- Kate's A Bookworm

Filled with fun, wit, humour, laughter, friendship and plenty of dating do's, don'ts and disasters
- She Loves to Read

The writing is wonderful, Kate is a fantastic character I really connected with her character, her anxiety, but also how impulsive she could be too, she was just fun, sarcastic and full of humour. There are great supporting characters too
- Bookish Dreams

I didn't know what to expect when I started Someone to Kiss but I am still reeling from the emotional rollercoaster it took me on. Yes, you will laugh but you will also gasp, tear up, get angry, (like wanting to cause bodily harm type of anger), feel your heart strings be pulled, and just about every feeling in between
- The Romantic Comedy Book Club

If you're in need of a real pick me up story or fancy a hilariously funny, lighthearted read, then I really can't stress enough how perfect "Someone to Kiss" is to cheer the soul. I adored this book, rooting for Kate to find the forever love of her life and not let him slip away...superbly funny, adorable characters with serious issues that many may relate to. I will be thinking of Kate next New Year's Eve

I would definitely recommend this book to readers who like a good romance that is not too predictable. I mean the guy always has to get the girl. But it really wasn't clear for a while who the guy was. Thanks for a really great read.

I very much enjoyed this book and basic plot of a 40 something woman seeking a relationship so she can be properly kissed on the next New Year’s Eve celebration. It’s a friends-to-lovers romance with some serious twists via subplots, with one plot element focused on her best female friend who is addicted to one-time sex and alcohol and also portrayed as the more beautiful. These two woman ultimately come across as quite needy, but in a totally believable way. The alcoholic friend is ultra-competitive with men, to the detriment of the woman seeking the kiss/relationship since she constantly steals the attention of all men when out together. My wife used to have a friend like this, who just couldn’t help her self from being aggressively competitive (like a blood sport). There is also the plot element of the male best friend (brother of the competitive female friend) who suffered from depression/anxiety (now treated) that has left him with feelings of inadequacy with regard to the woman he loves (woman seeking kiss). There is a lot to unpackaged in this story, which makes it a very good read. Highly recommended!

At forty she was desperately lonely living in the shadow of her naturally beautiful friend. Internet dating proved to be challenging. She was disappointed. Without spoiling this cute story for others, because most people need someone to kiss, she gradually worked it out and found the love of not just her life, but his as well. A nice clean story, dealing with society, collectively struggling with their basic needs, forgetting or ignoring their Creator and His best will for their lives.

I knew half way through that Ben was the one. The trauma of her dates is very close to reality. Depressing in parts

The story was excruciating to read. I’m unclear why the subtitle is Saskatchewan Romance as Canada doesn’t figure into the action. It is well known that some socially awkward people remain awkward throughout their lives; and that many single people would prefer to be in successful relationships. There is nothing at all funny about three people struggling with despair and unable to take effective action. That Kate, Ben and Julie finally find the strength to make a positive change doesn’t redeem the lengthy exploration of misery in this book.

Really enjoyed the book!! A reletable depiction of the frustrations of online dating. I mostly enjoyed the writing style and I especially liked that mental health issues and the negative effects of toxic work culture were prominent topics. The ending was sweet!

It was a good read. The story kept me smiling throughout. I liked the wit and humour and the mystery in it. Words of wisdom impressed me. I did skip reading some parts that were pertaining to the protagonist and her best friend's past. I'm sure I didn't miss anything important from the story. I cringed everytime I came across profanities. Ultimately the book left me with a smile.
