Sovereign Mage (Paranoid Mage Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 905 ratings

The final book in the Paranoid Mage series.

The portal to the Night Lands is closed, and vampires are barred from Earth, but at a high cost. Not only does Callum have to deal with the fallout of the vampire race’s final spasms, but the political consequences of demonstrating his ability and willingness to attack portal worlds directly. The forces that were moving to control a weakened GAR have come out into the open, and Callum has to deal with stakes much higher than his personal freedom.

It's time to join with his allies and move to open conflict. Even the secret of supernatural presence on Earth is at play, and the Archmage’s Council and the Seven Lesser Courts threaten the very concept of human sovereignty. Everything comes down to removing the would-be tyrants, and so preserving the Earth as it should be.

Sovereign Mage is a great conclusion to the series, with a very satisfying ending. It's probably the best book in the series, and you really get to see the late game power of the MC.

Most of the loose ends were tied up by the end. There is some small room for another story or a spin-off story that takes place in the same universe.

The only thing that upset me about this being the end is that we never learned who Callum’s father is/was and why he has the abnormalities that he does.

I've been following the series since I took the plunge on book 1.

It's always been interesting, holding my attention, even when I was supposed to be working. I couldn't put any of the books down.

And sovereign is a satisfying conclusion to the story. The story of The Ghost is complete. Callum is finally free of the persecution he found in book one and has established himself as a power in many ways.

And even though Callum's story is complete, there are hooks and threads left for future tales in these worlds and for the descendants of House Wells.

This was a very well written series. As the author said himself in the afterward, it was not the most exciting series given the protagonist's personality, but it was a good series. Glad to see it come to a satisfactory conclusion. All the various plots were wrapped up. Looking forward to what the author will write next.

This was an excellent series, with a finish that was both amazing and opened up a wider vision. Look forward to more from this author. Well done.

A logical conclusion to the series that didn't diminish the developments created in the prior 4 books.
None of the series books had a cliffhanger ending, but the desire to see what happened next was subtly encouraged

My personal favorite. Have read so many that are aimed at young teens and these feel like they are for everyone. Hope so much to see many more from this author.

I am sad to see the end to the adventures of The Ghost, but I am happy where it finished. From a mundane stumbling into a magical world to a bogeyman curtailing the excesses of magical power, he managed to stay true to his ideals.
Also, I appreciate the epilogue exploring both the slice-of-life aspects of his family as well as an exciting intervention into an assassination attempt. I look forward to the next series and hope others pick up this one in the future.

I enjoyed the world that is beeing painted in this series and I also liked the characters. I wished for some of them to be more fleshed out, but it's not a major flaw, the characters are already quit fleshed out.
.I also enjoyed the portaiel of the dragons, including dragons seem to always go sideways as protectors or evil force so it was quit interesting to see a neutral kinda nerdish dragon faction.

Im not a fan of MCs who just breeze through. What an anticlimax. The villain here is a rube and a joke. Its just not believable and he provides Callum nothing to foil.

Its a weak ending to an otherwise good series.

I enjoyed the series and it tied up the story line but I just wasn't that excited about it when reading it.
