Spin the Bottle: A steamy, fake dating, grumpy sunshine rom-com (Foodie Romance Journeys) Kindle Edition

3.4 out of 5 stars 54 ratings

Can a Spin the Bottle kiss stand the test of time?

CELESTE thought she had long forgotten the sweet, citrusy smooch she shared with TRAVIS one hot summer...

Splitting her time between her accounts office in Notting Hill, and her tiny apartment in quaint Exmouth Market, modern-day London life is simply too busy for men. Besides, whenever she tries to find The One, it always ends in disaster. From Tinder tragedies to tea for two tribulations, Celeste is beginning to think that she's cursed!

When Travis starts to pop up wherever she goes, she knows with stomach-sinking clarity that fate has finally caught up with them both. Inspired by the idea of the fake dating trope, Celeste is convinced the only way out of this mess is to call the jinx's bluff. But how will she get Travis to agree? And how can she manage not to fall in love with the grumpiest of sunshines?

Pour yourself a lemonade and escape with this gorgeous will-they-won't-they rom-com set between London and Gibraltar.

Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalusia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the mountains and the sea. She grew up in Somerset on Glastonbury's ley lines and loves to feature her quirky English hometown in her stories.

After a degree in Modern Languages and European Studies at UWE, Bristol (and a year working abroad in Bordeaux and Stuttgart), Isabella bagged an extremely jammy and fascinating job in children's publishing... selling foreign rights for novelty, board, pop-up and non-fiction books all over the world; in every language from Icelandic to Korean, Bahasa Indonesian to Papiamento!

All of which has fuelled her curiosity and love of international food and travel - both feature extensively in her romcoms.

Isabella is also a Level 4 Pranic Healer and a stillbirth mum.

This was so much fun to read. The relationship between the two main characters has its ups and downs, for sure, but you hope it will all turn out in the end.

Isabella May always writes her novels with three key elements which make for a great story - romance, humour, and the most amazing sounding food! Spin the Bottle is no exception.

The characters keep us entertained with their farcical dating, and I found myself mentally looking up some of the places they visited for my own visits to The Big Smoke. Cheese cruise anyone?

I enjoyed learning about Gibraltar and how life is for a military family, and it was amusing to see how Celeste and Travis could work their way through their dates.

A delightful tale with many moments that will make you giggle. Another book that I have loved by this author.

Right, I'm off to track down the cake shop from the story!

All of Isabella May’s books have such wonderful covers, you can’t help but dive into the books themselves. Having read The Cake Fairies and Bubblegum and Blazers, it was good to see characters from those books featuring with Celeste and Polly. Spin the bottle is Celeste’s own story starting as a teenager in Gibraltar and moving to London in adult life. A ‘love curse’,or is it a blessing, means that she constantly sees Travis, a boy from her past, wherever she goes!
Lots of love, laughs and delicious cake features! What more could you want!
A great summer read and perfect for the holidays!

A fabulous story with great characters and I loved Celeste was from an earlier book. Travis was from Celeste’s past and they were fated to meet again. As with Isabella May’s books this was full of fun, food, fruit and the romance just fizzled throughout. Delicious, delectable and sprinkled with a touch of magic.

I enjoyed this immensely (I've read most of her other books too). Watching the two main characters on their dates and wondering how it was all going to be sorted was really enjoyable. I enjoyed finding out a little about Gibraltar too.
Isabella writes likeable and believable characters who drive the story forward. I was very invested in them both.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a fun read.
