Still The One: A BRAND NEW gorgeously funny romantic comedy from Aimee Brown for 2025 Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 416 ratings

The perfect ‘will they, won’t they’ story for all romance fans.

Eve Cassidy thought Guy Foster was the only man she would ever love. Theirs was a whirlwind romance and marriage - until it all ended in tears...

Five years after their break-up, Eve still hasn’t found a reason to believe in true love. But when Foster has an accident and she discovers she’s still listed as his next of kin, Eve knows she can’t let him wake up in hospital with no one by his side. After all, those devilishly blue eyes have always been hard to say no to…

Foster isn’t sure if his poor battered brain is playing tricks on him when he sees the only woman he’s ever loved sitting next to his bedside. Maybe Eve never got over him like he never got over her? And when Eve agrees to him moving into her one-bedroom apartment to recover, it’s clear these exes have unfinished business.

Will weeks in close quarters be the making or breaking of this smouldering second chance love story? Up close and personal, old habits can be hard to break.

Contemporary romance pure gold for all fans of Abby Jimenez, Lindsey Kelk and Emily Henry.

Aimee Brown is a writer of romantic comedies set in Portland, Oregon. She writes closed door romance (NO sex scenes, light kissing) with humor and crude language. She spends much of her time writing, raising three kids (who are all nearly grown now), binge-watching shows on Netflix and obsessively cleaning and redecorating her house. She's fluent in sarcasm and has been known to utter profanities like she's competing for a medal.

Aimee grew up in Oregon but is now a transplant living in cold Montana with her husband of twenty+ years, two of three children, and far too many pets. She is a lot older than she looks and yes, that is a tattoo across her chest.

Aimee is very active on social media. She'd love to have you stop by and say hi!

Snarky dialog, endearing characters, and heart-thumping romance
Aimee Brown’s contemporary second chance love story “Still the One” had me engaged from the first page. I couldn’t resist the snarky dialog, endearing characters, and heart-thumping romance. Like all her books, I stayed up all night reading till the satisfying happily-ever-after.

My favorite thing as a reader is finding new-to-me voices in contemporary romance, and I’ve struck gold with this one. While this is my first romance from this gifted storyteller, it definitely won’t be my last!

Eve Cassidy gets quite the surprise when her ex husband shows up in her emergency room after wrecking his motorcycle during a motocross competition. Somehow, she's still listed as his emergency contact five years later.

Foster lives on the other side of the country and has no one to look after him, so Eve stays by his side then moves him into her apartment when he's discharged but still to ill to travel back home to Florida. Who better than a ER nurse to change his dressings, help with PT, and make sure he takes his medication?

One theme of this story is the “what ifs." We all have them. Watching Eve and Foster take a chance on their own what ifs and fight for their forever the second time around made this this phenomenal read. Their story is a reminder that life is precious and too short to live with regrets.
I would be remiss not to give a shout-out to this author for taking a challenging life event and using it as the backdrop of this story. Having gone through something similar but very different, I vividly recall the jumble of chaotic emotions, and I’m in awe of her strength, determination, and ability to use something so personally difficult to touch readers' lives and gift us with an uplifting reading experience. Brava, Ms. Brown, with thanks and gratitude.

While this one is charming and humorous, it’s heart is in the deep emotions, in healing past pain, in learning to forgive, and in a glorious second chance. Hold on tight for this exhilarating, evocative ride, and make a big space in your heart for Eve and Foster. They'll be your new favorite couple and will stay with you forever.

Thank you Boldwood Books and Aimee Brown for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This book was so much fun to read! The banter and tension between Eve and Foster was jam packed and made it hard to stop reading. Foster and Eve were once married after a whirlwind romance that took them by storm. 5 years later, they’ve separated and are no longer in contact….until Foster gets in a terrible accident and fate brings them back together. While most of the setting is in a hospital and based in the past, the story brings such a cozy feeling. I enjoyed the side characters and the pacing leading to the happy ending. I’m giving this 4 stars because a lot of Eve and Foster’s inner monologues were kind of repetitive and led me to feeling annoyed at how often I read “we can’t be together for x or x reasons”. Overall, I would recommend this book if you love cozy reads with longing and second chance romances!

Still The One by Aimee Brown is a heartfelt and emotional second-chance romance that explores the complexities of love, forgiveness, and starting over. The story revolves around Eve, a compassionate ER nurse, who finds herself face-to-face with her ex-husband, Foster, after he suffers a serious accident during an FMX bike event. Their unexpected reunion forces both of them to confront the pain of their past and the lingering feelings they still have for one another.

As Foster embarks on a challenging journey of recovery, Eve becomes an integral part of his healing process, both physically and emotionally. The alternating perspectives between the two characters provide a deep look into their struggles and growth, making their story both relatable and engaging. Their rekindled connection is a slow burn, filled with tender moments and the realization that sometimes love deserves a second chance.

Aimee Brown crafts a touching narrative with relatable characters and an authentic portrayal of healing—both individually and as a couple. Still The One is a beautiful story about overcoming hurt, finding closure, and rediscovering what it means to truly love. It's perfect for fans of emotionally rich romances with a satisfying, feel-good ending.

This is a second chance romance about Eve and Foster. She's a trauma nurse, and he's an FMX athlete. They were married five years ago and got divorced because Foster was too focused on his career, and Eve wasn't feeling loved.

They reacquaint when the worst happens, Foster gets into an accident that should have killed him, but didn't. He's brought to the hospital where Eve works, and when she sees him, she spirals. She takes time off work to be at his bedside, and when he's too sick to fly home, he stays with her so she can nurse him back to health.

Sparks and banter fly; they're clearly still attracted to each other. But Foster has a secret, and he's afraid to share it with Eve because they seem like they're on the path to getting back together.

This book is a SLOW BURN. While there's yearning and sexy banter, nothing physical happens between them until the very end.

I did really like these characters and their stories, I was cheering for them the whole time. While we learned about their current lives, with flashbacks to their short relationship, I feel like we didn't get too deep into their backgrounds, which I would have liked.

This is a very readable romcom which has you rooting for both of the characters at the centre. You do become invested in their story. I liked the humour which came from some of the sopprting cast, particularly Eva's neighbour and Guy's reactions to him/ Above all. you sense that they have both been lonely and carrying a broken heart. It is well worth a read to find out how the story ends up and whether love can conquer all, the second time around.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written second chance

This had a lovely flow and a well handled plot about second chances. It lacked passion for me which sometimes slowed the pace but it never lost the feeling of love between the two leads and certainly had good insight into the emotions when things are not clear between a couple.
    A good read.

I loved this second chance romance. I so felt for Eve having to be confronted with her ex-husband in the emergency room. The author did a wonderful job of handling the conflicting emotions in the story and although I didn’t approve of the deceit of one of the major characters I could understand it and like it as a plot turner. Ultimately, this was an emotional and heartfelt second chance romance that grabbed and kept my attention.

I have never read anything about motorcycle racing. And the depth of knowledge was astounding but felt true to life because I could relate so well to the two main characters. Now I just need to find some more books by Aimee Brown to read
