Surviving the Merge (Chadwick #1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 611 ratings

My name is Justin, and when I was seventeen, I fell in love with a boy named Damon. Damon was sick, only I didn’t know it at the time. And like any disease left untreated, it festered and burrowed into the unaffected areas of us, until we were both so far from healthy, we were killing one another. Then a tragedy sparked our implosion. With nothing of us remaining to salvage, I was left to pick up the pieces, while Damon found his escape in the abyss. Leaving me alone with his alter, Blake. Damon and Blake are two halves of a whole. But Damon is the coldest part of darkness, and Blake the warmest part of light. Which form of ecstasy would you choose? I love Blake with a ferocious intensity akin to the peeling back of skin. Except Blake isn’t Damon, but Damon was gone—until now. What once threatened to tear us apart has become our catharsis. Outnumbered in a relationship with the man who is my life, I’ve begun to learn more about love than I ever thought possible. But can our love survive the merge?

When not writing, C.P. Harris can be found reading about the flawed, possessive characters often reflected in her own work. She prefers her love stories a little toxic, emotional, and with a happily ever after well worth the struggle it took to get there. If being wrecked by romance is your jam, then C.P. may be the author for you.

This was an impressive debut novel for a new author! The story was very engaging and kept me wanting more and more from these men. It wasn't a light and fluffy read, more raw and edgy. Even so, the soft and sweet side to this story balanced it out perfectly. I found the characters likable, some a little over the top, but we all have different levels of energy. Ms. Harris pulled at my heartstrings pretty well here and that makes for a good read in my book. There were a few things here and there that didn't seem fluid, but considering this was her first rodeo I am definitely intrigued to find out how the rest of this series will go. I think I'm pretty sure who the next book will involve, but look forward to seeing if she takes a different spin on their type of relationship. Bravo Ms. Harris, you have gained a new fan!

C.P. Harris didn’t disappoint. If you are a fan then this is one of her best if not THE BEST. Not my usual motto but go in blind PLEAAAAASE, blurb wouldn’t give you much but don’t read reviews. Not more words, I don’t want to spoil in but it has everything love, anguish, well written spice. Amazing, loved all of them by the end Blake for sure, Justin and Damon

This book was really good. I love everything except one of the MCs.
    SPOILER

My issue is with Justin’s character. It’s like the author was using every other character to convince the reader how good Justin is , but I didn’t see it. I think all the people around him just fall under the spell of his looks (include Damon/Blake). He’s selfish and uses everyone around him for his own gain. The first half of the book was mainly about Justin and Blake, maybe it’s me but there was no love there on Justin’s part. He just wants Damon to debauch him and Blake to worship him. For him these two has to go hand in hand. When Damon started integrating with Blake through therapy and hard work, Justin almost ruined it because of his selfishness. He is the reason this book isn’t getting a 5 star.
I really enjoyed Damon’s character, he was a breath of fresh air. Even though he loved Justin, he was not a member of the “I love Justin” club.

If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to not read the blurb. Go into this book blind. Do yourself that favor.

This book is so raw and real. Even though it's told in the POV of 1 MC, you feel the emotions and understand both of them so completely. C.P. Harris has a way of painting a picture in your mind, and simultaneously reaching into your chest, clutching your heart. These characters will live in my mind for along time to come.

This was a great read. Very emotional. It’s the stuff that Damion went through that makes you understand DID a little more. Sometimes really bed things happen, that a person physically can’t deal with it, so an alter is born. I can’t even imagine what he went through.

Then there’s Justin. His love of Damion was profound. He truly helped Damion, but I felt a loss with Blake. I can understand Justin’s love for the two and his conflicted feelings.

Again great read. I highly recommend, but definitely read the trigger warnings first, because Damion back story was not an easy thing to read.

    Great ending.

I wanted a book with DID and was given this recommendation. New author for me. I was really excited to start it. Overall, it just didn't invoke any feelings. I liked some parts but was bored at times. I kinda wished they didn't merge. I didn't really care for the Sam character and thought the things that happened towards the end were unnecessary and didn't have any reason to be included except to fill pages.

Will give book 2 a chance.

This book. I couldn't put it down. I DEVOURED this book in less than 2 days because it was all I wanted to do.
This book might very well have become one of my all-time favorite books I have ever read. I'm not able to get these beautiful characters and their beautiful relationship out of my head.

Honestly, I was afraid to start reading because I was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype. It's been getting rave reviews and I was nervous. I wanted to like it because it sounded so interesting. But OMG - it over exceeded all my expectations. It blew them out of the water. The revelation in chapter 3 had me SHOOK. I'm still in awe of this masterful story. The writing was superb and it's so obvious that CP Harris took great pains to research and become fully invested in the lives of these characters...

I cannot say enough good things about this book. It was heart-wrenching and beautiful and so so SO sexy. I have never read anything like this book. The world needs more like it and thank GOD CP Harris is planning more in this series.

Did I mention that I LOVED this book?

This book can barely be reviewed as it can barely be described in words. I would literally need to do a dramatic piece interpretive dance in order to fully convey what this story is. But, I'll try.

It is powerful. Beautiful. Raw. Amazing. Profound. Lovely. Funny. Sad. So very very sad. Perfect.

I loved every single character in this book Julie, Sam, Max, Ash, Paula, Justine, Damon, Blake, Debbie, Pete. Notice I didn't even list the MCs first. This is because every character popped. Everyone brought something beautiful to the table. I never wanted this book to end. It was written gracefully and even though I dove in NOT having read the blurb (it was recommended in S. Legend's newsletter and I just decided to trust her and read it) I was caught from the word go.

Do yourself a favor, read this book.

Surviving The Merge – An intense, enthralling, riveting, amazing and emotional read.

This is the story from Justin’s point of view and his relationship with Damon and Blake.

It is best to go into this book blind so I will not write much but it was enlightening, for me, on the subject matter of Dissociative identity disorder (DID).

‘Surviving the Merge is a story about having the courage to dismantle the foundations of a relationship built upon jealousy, co-dependency and darkness, and rebuild it back again stronger, saner and healthier.’

The book does deal with some heavy themes and if you have triggers you should go into this book with caution. It is an emotional roller coaster with some seriously heartbreaking scenes, some incredible twists and turns, some dark romance scenes and some beautiful heartwarming scenes.

I loved the book with all its intensity. A definite re-read at some point in the near future.

    Well done C.P. Harris.

This is one of the most emotional reads I have read in a long time. It takes you on a journey of a love story that, at times, is dark and toxic. Yet an overwhelming hope shines through. You feel as though you are living it alongside Justin along with all the feelings. I struggle to put into words just how heavy this hit me. It's definitely a book I will always remember.
