    Well that was something else...no really that was definitely not a story with a relatively straight line romance.

    ***a little spoiler but it makes sense to know

    I will be honest I was not going to continue with the book after about the 20% mark because by that point I realized the MMC1 was not going to be redeemable in my mind and I was not sure I wanted to invest myself in what I thought would be reader heartbreak...soooo like a bad reader I went and read some other review and spoilers, which I highly recommend doing if you are on the fence about reading this book because it gave me enough insight to understand what the point of the 1st part of the story relationships were and that they had a bigger purpose down the road.

    This was a well written story. I think it can be incredibly triggering for a lot of people who either have been in relationships like this or have seen it first hand. This book made me uncomfortable, angry, sad, frustrated, disgusted and also hopeful. While there were some places that either seemed a little too drawn out and some others a bit rushed this felt like a very real situation that almost anyone could find themselves in whether romantic or friendship.

    The story was engrossing kind of like watching a car accident hoping for a miracle happy ending. Which there is a happy ending just not in the way you would imagine from the majority of this book. While not exactly what I would call a "feel good" story this really had me by the balls to see how the cookie would crumble and made me feel all kind of ways.

    I loved it but also hated it a little and to me that is a recipe for a great story. This will not be everyone's cup of coffee (inside book joke) but I will certainly remember this book over many other lighter impact books I have read this year.

    This was a tough read and a hard review to write because I adore Jade!! Like can't read fast enough, can't get enough level adore. For the record, I am a lover of "her kind" of writing, I'm not interested in light and fluffy, but this was troubling. May be spoilers in my review.

    She has a way with words and there is actually a pay off, though I considered stopping reading it before the end... multiple times. I'm glad I finished but wouldn't read it again or recommend it.

    The lead characters are in an incredibly toxic, abusive relationship. Manipulation, emotional and sexual abuse, controlling, gaslighting... All the things.

    It takes the heroine (or anyone) at least 75% of this long book to start seeing signs and the culmination and secondary romance is compressed into the last quarter. At least 80% of the intimate scenes are hardcore abuse.

    There are big things that get unresolved that bug me. (Resisting the urge to list them for those who will still read this.) And the happily ever after is tainted by the last chapter. It's chilling, but unbelievable!! With everything the male lead did, and considering who the secondary male lead is, I cannot believe there were no legal actions and #1 walks unscathed.

    Long story short, too much time spent on the abuse and not enough resolution or good to make up for that.

    The book was a tad bit too long. The main FMC/Cass was a complete mess with no self esteem and just really was kind of dumb. I don’t know what year this story took place, I’m thinking current because they had cell phones, Google etc. the reason I say that is because when Cass is thinking to herself, it sounded kind of old fashioned. Maybe in small towns in Europe they still think that way? She just believed everything the MMC/Ant was telling her. Geez do some research and have a backbone, which she didn’t. And she didn’t even yell at him as good as she should have. I would have lambasted his *ss! And we don’t even know what fraudulent info Ant had on Gerwyn (the side character.) I am sure Ant loved Cass in his own f’d up way (obviously), but he got away with too much stuff and today working for a financial service like that, they would do a complete forensics audit probably using an outside company, so I don’t think Ant’s claim towards Gerwyn would have held up. And I am for sure don’t think he would’ve gotten away with what he did to Cass. And another thing they should’ve destroyed those cameras.

    Leave it to Jade West to push my absolute limits, embrace and even enjoy something I didn't earlier believe I could even digest. This book is so HOT and dirty and so very sexy.... and filthy ..and most importantly such an eye opener. This book left me so anxious, worried, frustrated, HOT and bothered and I was also left wondering, how am I enjoying the 'mattress room' stuff?! Made me question my kinky side ...but at the same time, seeing Cass's satte saddened me sooo much. I really wanted to slap some sense into this woman, but then again, it I were in her place, would I do the same, would i toss my self respect away just like that and second question everything i wanted out of my life? It's very scary to even imagine and that's what in my eyes, makes Ant sush an awesome character. He is enigmatic, charming and such an astute manipulator. His on and off personality drove me absolutely crazy and all credit to Jade for sketching such a character.
    The best part of this book was until half way through i had absolutely no idea where it was headed. I had a sense of what shouldn't happen but the how part had me reeling in anticipation. And again, kudos to the author for being able to make the readers flip pages, anxiously waiting for the crusader'. I really don't want to touch or talk about what follows as that would spoil all the fun but all i can say it - the way things came together and how they came together was chefs kiss - at the end everything made perfect sense and i was in complete awe of the story. And my god, that epilogue sealed the deal , making it my top 3 best books of the year. My only small complaint is with respect to Cass. I could sympathize with her. but i expected more of a growth from her and some signs from her close ones that - something is not right here, but none came....but over-all this book is crazy wild, seductive dirty and soooo very delighted. One click it right now!!!

    Have you ever been in love? I don’t mean If you have ever loved someone I mean if you have ever been so blindly in love to give up who you are for the other person. How far would you go for the right person? And when does love stop being that and becomes something else? This is Jade West baby, she won’t just push your boundaries, she will shove you out of your comfort zone, so far out you will wonder how to come back. Off I went into this disturbing journey.
