About the authors
Frances writes books about animals, hybrids, aliens, shifters, and occasionally ordinary humans. She lives in Washington State with her family, a small menagerie, and far too many houseplants.

As a child, Rick Griffin frequently played out elaborate stories with stuffed animals and became weird in the head due to it and associated traumas. Therefore he decided that when he grew up, he would tell stories for a living and also become a real live dragon, or perhaps a kangaroo. Naturally, everyone shook their head at the young boy’s naivete, since as adults they knew that it was impossible to write stories as one’s sole career. They calmly explained that maybe he should get a day job as well.
The whole “day job” thing didn’t pan out. Now as the artist and author of Traitors Thieves and Liars, Housepets!, A&H Club, and other stories and comics, he is ultimately responsible for instigating too many worlds.

Gre7g lives in Alabama with his wife, Kyoht, and a small menagerie of pets. He enjoys writing stories about monsters in love, brews beer that he won't drink, programs computers that don't look like computers, and fantasizes about worlds without so many people in them.
Skeleton Crew is Gre7g's third novel. His first two were about werewolves and Minotaurs, respectively. He's written a couple of novellas and a handful of short stories; most of which can be found on his website:

Gre7g loves feedback on his stories. He wants to know what readers enjoyed about the tales along with what they hated. If you have the time, he'd love to hear your opinions about this or any of his other stories. You can reach him at:

Phox Sillanpaa currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his loving wife, numerous fur babies, and one tiny human. The fuel behind his creative process can best be described as mild caffeine overdose and “What is that thing called the Sun?” When he isn’t writing about aliens (or his D&D characters), he enjoys voice acting, electronic music production, and singing questionable covers over karaoke soundtracks. Phox Sillanpaa spends most of his time lounging around on SecondLife, helping to manage and build the Fall Of Faerendin (Region: The Phox Den) roleplay sim, or crawling through any number of video games on Steam. Phox’s current projects involve a prequel to Cold Brew and a sequel to How To Die in Krakun Space.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2024Just finished reading Tales of Hayven Celestia. It was really really good! I'm really loving the HC universe.
I think the Anup are my favorite, but I love the ringel's outlook and their genderheckery is fantastic, and I'm just really curious about most of the other races. They're all so interesting!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2020In my opinion, it's a big challenge to build a coherent universe that provides enough context to make it alluring, preventing a bland setting, while at the same time not being intricate just for the sake of it. Rick Griffin created Hayven Celestia, which features several "alien" species and easy-to-follow space travel with advanced technology that makes sense without diving into hard physics. As noted, there is a variety of sapient species that might seem too different at first glance, but they are very much relatable and human in their ways. It's within this context that slavery, deception, love, suffering, friendship and other themes are explored in 13 unique stories.
I feel all the stories in this book are great. I don't want to spoil anything or analyze them one by one, but I can say that none have any glaring issues or typos to distract you. However, I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed all on the same level. If I had to pick 5 as my favorites, I'd choose "Life in the Stacks", "The Next Life", "Cold Brew", "The Price of Compassion" and "The Castaway".
Both Gre7g and Rick definitely did a great job at editing and selecting which stories were added to this first anthology. The order in which they were presented was very apt and closing with "Life in the Stacks" was perfect. The only downside of this short story format is that often I was left with a feeling of wanting to know more about the characters or what befell them.
This book includes many beautiful and high quality illustrations to help visualize the characters' species. I suggest anyone not familiar with Hayven Celestia to check the glossary first.
I'm definitely looking forward for more stories set in this universe.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2020Many anthologies tend to be hit and miss, but every story in Tales of Hayven Celestia is an enjoyable and interesting look into the various people and places of this universe, breathing a kind of life into it that you can only really get when multiple different authors all come together to add their stories to a shared setting. The only bad thing about it is that, eventually, you do run out of stories to read. Here's hoping this first collection is the first of many as Hayven Celestia continues to grow.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2024Chock full of short stories that left me wanting to have more with their characters! This anthology really expands and rounds out the Hayven Celestia setting.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2021This anthology collection has one of the most fleshed out sci-fi universes I think I've ever seen in furry fiction. I really enjoyed reading about all of the different alien species (that almost all have some earth animal counterpart) throughout the various stories. Having a glossary in the back for folks unfamiliar to the wider series with illustrations and descriptions definitely helped me get up to speed as I was reading. Each of the stories is self-contained, but is set within the larger universe setting of Hayven Celestia. The quality of each story can vary, but I chalk this up to having a mix of veteran and new writers contributing to the overall anthology. I think if you're into science fiction and wanted to try out furry fiction that this would be a good book to read. It's got a wide variety of stories and styles set in space and at least a few should really resonate with you.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2022This book was a really fun read. Since it's an anthology, multiple authors contributed, and they all did an excellent job. Definitely pick it up if you liked The Kanti Cycle or Final Days of the White Flower II
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2021I absolutely love the world building that each author brings to this shared universe! The characters and their situations are fascinating, and pull me every time I read about them. I can't wait to read more from these authors, especially if it involves this universe!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2020A good addition to Rick Griffin's work.
