Let's get one thing straight: my name's Steve. I've never been called 'SJ' but Steve Richards is a political writer hence the pen name.

I was born in Bath and have lived at various times on an irregular clockwise circle around England. After university in Manchester my wife and I settled in Macclesfield before moving to Bedfordshire then a few years ago back to Somerset. We now live in Croscombe, a lovely village just outside Wells, with our 2 sprightly cocker spaniels.

I've always loved writing but have only really had the time to indulge myself since taking early retirement. My daughter is a brilliant author (I'm not biased of course) which is both an inspiration and - because she's so good - a challenge. After a few experiments, and a couple of completed but unsatisfactory and never published novels, I decided to write a crime fiction series as it's one of the genres I most enjoy.

Ripped from the headlines but not a meager reproduction. This story was fast paced and detailed with well defined bad guys and gals as well as our erstwhile team of superheroes. Great dialogue and a plot that sinks its teeth into you. I do hope there will be more of these books. They are fantastio - ala Josh!

This is another fantastic addition to the books which have been written. Knowing that Luke and his band of misfits are doing great together.

Filchers’ Head of Ethics ex-DCI Luke Sackville is back for a fourth adventure, together with his newly formed and very capable team of graduate trainee Josh and much older legal expert Helen plus technical wizard Majid and accountant Sam. Right at the start of the story Maj is a hero, spotting a suicide bomber at his local Mosque and saving the lives of everyone but the bomber, getting injured himself and promptly put on two weeks sick leave. Luke desperately needs a new staff member to cover and soon Lily Newport with her acting skills from the previous story is recruited. Just in time. as Filchers’ CEO Ambrose Filcher has been approached by the Chief Constable of Wessex Police. He believes there is a bad apple in his own Anti-Corruption Unit and that person was in cahoots with the neo-Nazi bomber. Soon Luke, Sam, Josh and Lily are set to join the unit, ostensibly to deal with bullying accusations, but in reality, to discover more about the terrorist cell. The reader also hears about the sinister Master and his terrifying plans in a dark secret society as a new apprentice is initiated. There are dangerous times ahead for the city of Bath. In addition, Sam is dealing with a case of harassment of female staff members, Helen gets the chance to finally see her son again and Luke, doing some consultancy work for his ex-colleague DI Pete Gilmore, meets a very unwelcome name from his past.
I am really loving this super and original new series, excellently written, full of action and intrigue, and featuring some very colourful and easy to envisage characters. The whole ethics team are lovely, almost like a family now who really care about each other, but for me Josh is still my favourite, a clever and kind-hearted young man who has found his perfect match in Leanne and who also produces so many humorous moments throughout the story. Luke’s parents are the Duke and Duchess of Dorset and times are getting really hard as his mother’s health declines further but at least he now has his brother Mark to share the burden and a great new character in the form of his niece Marion. All we need now is for Luke and Sam to get together and it would all be, in Josh’s words, Gucci!!
