- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2023I cried. Very few books will make me emotional - the crying type of emotional. The Finding did just that. Thank you AM Porto for reminding me I’m not as calloused as I thought. This is author AM Promo’s debut novel and first book in The Berrycreek Heights series. It’s a great start to the series and I can’t wait for book two! I need to know what happened to Lizzie!
I hope you don’t have breathing problems, because I had to remind myself to breathe a few times. I was on the edge of my seat for a large majority of this book. That feeling that something bad is going to happen at any moment haunted me. I didn’t know if this would be a HEA, HFN, or just plain tragedy. That suspense kept me reading and turning each page.
Spice level (1-5): 🌶️ Mostly fade to black
Meeting Victoria was the best thing that could have happened for Logan. Rarely do people meet their soulmate so early in life. Logan is convinced of just that, Victoria is his. She is everything to him. Growing up together are some of their happiest memories. But when Victoria’s stepfather tries to pull them apart, to what lengths will his malice go. How far will Logan go for a childhood love? Can love transcend time and distance?
I’d recommend The Finding to readers who like books where the couple is ripped apart due to circumstance. If you like found family, soulmates, true love, childhood love, angst, yearning, you’ll love The Finding. Read the Trigger Warnings! This book does contain non con grape, smex trafficking, child abuse, and violence toward women. These can be very triggering to sensitive readers. While abuse is referenced, it is not explicitly described. It is fade to black. There is consensual detailed spice towards the end. If you’re on the fence with the TW, this is not as dark as similar themed books (think Hunting Adeline). For the ones that like a book that squeezes your heart and leaves a mark, this one is for you.
Warning: Reading The Finding may make you test your determination. May make you seriously question your current relationship. May make you want Dom as a best friend. May make you take some notes for your next relationship. May make you take threats more seriously. May make you hug your loved ones. May make you want to have had a childhood love. Read responsibly.

This book definitely was interesting. It follows the story of Victoria; and tells about the countless abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather. There are detailed descriptions of child abuse in this novel, and honestly I did find myself needing to take a bit of a break here and there from the story because of some of the details of abuse. Her stepfather also goes along and ends up selling her to a cartel, where she does end up getting SA'd by the cartel leader. The SA doesn't go in to detail, for those that might struggle with reading things like that.
The writing style of the author to me seemed to be full of dialog, and a little low on actual action. Don't get me wrong, I love a book full of dialog, but I feel like I personally missed a lot of opportunities to connect with the characters and connect more with the story due to the way we don't get to see a range of emotions that can connect readers with characters. This isn't me saying there are *no* emotions, but honestly there's only about three- love, rage, and determination. The idea and the plot was absolutely fantastic, but I personally feel like the writing style could have been a little more detailed when it comes to the actions of the characters. This isn't a dig to the author; I really did like this book, it's just the writing style wasn't for me, but it could be perfectly fine for you.
As I said, I do love the plot, and I love the basis surrounding the book. I think this author has a phenomenal amount of potential as a writer and as she develops more into her craft, and I look forward to seeing what else she puts out into the world and to watch her grow!

This is a dark, twisty kind of book that sucks you in and doesn’t spit you out until the very end. Its the kind that sometimes you set down to process what you have just read and to catch you breath, but you don’t stop for long because you definitely need to find out how the book ends. How there will be resolution, if there will be some semblence of a happy ending.
This is the kind of book with the most amazing characters, those who have been through things, that are clearly tormented who that author has clearly poured their heart and soul into. This is the kind of book that I know that I gravitate to when I am in a dark and twisty mood. The kind where I don’t feel quite right and I want to know that I am not alone in how I feel.
Vic and Lo are absolutely amazing characters who I can tell that the author put so much thought into. Vic has such an amazing story arc and character development. I definitely felt all sorts of different emotions for her throughout this story. This story is told in their dual perspectives and that adds to the emotion of this story. This dual perspective storytelling is done so well that it feels like two of your friends are telling you their version of events of something important that has happened to them.
This book has a trigger warning and is suggested for mature readers. I definitely recommend heeding that warning if you need to. However, I also recommend reading this book. It is the kind of book that sticks with you long after you read it. It is definitely so good!
