The Homemaker: a spine-tingling psychological thriller Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 3,792 ratings

Maria always wanted a family. Now she’s found one.

Imogen has never been so busy – she’s juggling two jobs, has a young family and now she’s pregnant again.

Enter Maria, the perfect housekeeper. Hard working and capable, she seems like the ideal solution to Imogen's chaotic life. But Maria isn’t at all what she seems – she has a sinister agenda of her own.

Little by little, she installs herself at the heart of Imogen’s family – doing the school run, cooking meals, caring for Imogen’s little girl.

But once she has won the family’s trust, Maria starts to do some digging. And discovers that Imogen has been keeping a terrible secret, a secret which Maria threatens to reveal unless Imogen starts to run this home the way Maria sees fit.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Imogen has no choice but to comply.

A terrible mistake. Because as the full scale of Maria’s horrifying plan becomes apparent, Imogen realises that everything she holds dear – her marriage, her family, her friends – all may fall victim to The Homemaker.

The Homemaker – the chilling psychological thriller from the best-selling author of The Visitors and What She Knew.

Absolutely chilling... Miranda Rijks is known for her twisted plots and terrifying characters, and this book is further proof of why. I was immediately sucked into this sinister world where everyone has a secret and you aren't sure who is lying. A brilliant look into a dark, calculating, and completely unhinged mind, filled with uncertainty, terror, and absolutely unpredictable twists and turns. I haven't stopped thinking about this book since I finished it. An absolute must-read if you love horrifying psychological thrillers, family drama, and twists you won't see coming. Clear your schedule and prepare to devour this book in a day!

-Kiersten Modglin, bestselling author of
The Family Secret

Honestly I did finish it rather quickly so it did keep me entertained, and I read it without feeling like it was dragging and I wanted it to be over like some I have read lately , but it lacked that SHOCK value… from the beginning you kinda knew where it was going, but the writer did a good job getting you to understand each character and their personality. I would definitely recommend for someone who likes these types of books … but if you are new to the psychological thriller genre , I would definitely not start with this one, this one doesn’t get you hooked on the genre … but overall I would give it an 8/10 … the ending was a little bit of a wow moment so I added a star for that …

A rather dark novel. Had a decent plot that dragged in quite a few places. Not a whole lot of suspense, since the two main characters were both in first person POV. if you can get past wanting to slap Imogene for being so clueless, it’s worth the read.

A compelling read that's a real nail biter and page turner that keeps you in suspense. Imogen faces some tough situations and decisions basically she's caught between a rock and a hard spot is Maria a help or hindrance? I was really caught up in their story.

All in all a good read but I enjoy a thriller with more twists and turns. You could tell where this one was going from the very start. I have read several of her other books and have given them a SOLID five star so I will continue reading her books. This one was just a little bit of a let down.

This is the best book I’ve read in a long time!
Tightly written; no boring parts or filler fluff.
With excellent pacing, an exciting plot, and vivid characters, by the end my nails were gone, and I don't mind one bit!
Very happy to have discovered Miranda Rijks, and I can't wait to read more from her.

I felt that the lead up to the final outcome was too long. Otherwise, I enjoyed reading the story. Maria was a real piece of work. Unfortunately, people like her do exist in our world. This is the first time I've read anything by Miranda Rinks but I'd read more of her stories.
