Two worlds that struggle to exist alongside each other as one fades into folklore. Hobbs does a beautiful job of painting the scene of how beautiful yet deadly the lore of mermaids can truly be.

Young Connie has no friends yet she survives by being a good and helpful daughter. However, one night she hears her parents arguing and her drunken father says he never loved her and does not want her.

Connie feels sad but takes comfort in a beautiful song brought to her on the wind. It is the song of a beautiful mermaid. Their lives are entwined and Connie learns the legend of the mermaids.

A wonderful short story, if you like fantasy and folklore you are sure to enjoy this.
