Hi, my name’s Max and I’m one of the Selected.
What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you read those words? A great hero, chosen from among all the billions of people on Earth? A lucky man who has ended up on an unknown world and gained superpowers? An explorer of new worlds who has discovered his destiny?
Well, that’s all true, but there is one but... Actually, if I’m honest, there are a whole load of buts. And there are rules. And the first rule of the Selected is:
“Try not to die. It is expensive and impractical.”

About the authors
Vasily Mahanenko is a fantasy and sci fi author and one of the original founding fathers of the new genre of LitRPG - the MMO-based fantasy and sci fi. His debut novel The Way of the Shaman series took literature by storm in 2012.
Vasily dipped into his college-days insider knowledge as a hardcore gamer in order to create a believable world of the virtual-reality MMO game. His bestselling series combines fiction and video games, telling the story of Shaman and his friends stuck in the ruthless reality of Barliona. He used his more than ten years' experience as an ERP implementation project manager to approach his writing in a well-organized manner, working to a strict schedule, a set of deadlines and even a budget. The entire body of Vasily's works to date is available on Amazon now, with new books adding as he comes up with new fantasy worlds and stories.

Yuri Vinokuroff was born in 1976 in Sevastopol. An avid reader from an early age, he was especially fond of fantasy and science fiction. Already back then, he knew he wanted to write books rather than just read them.
But as it often happens, all of his time and energy were consumed by his successful career, his family and his French Bulldog breeding kennel. His professional activities involved designing and constructing power plants and facilities, which couldn’t be further removed from his teenage dream of writing fiction.
Still, Yuri didn’t give up. Eventually, he began writing for Facebook and even created a small challenge for himself, completing 100 posts in 100 days. It was there that he gained his first fans. During the 2020 lockdown, he used the opportunity to enter a major LitRPG competition. Although his novel didn’t win, it still went viral, soon followed by the rest of the series.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2025I really love the way the world is set up and I love the dynamic between the three, but I feel Gor needs some more combat abilities because I don’t believe his primary class is should have some and maybe get him to use other weapons besides melee otherwise can’t wait to see how the group is going to fair in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2025This was NOT what I was expecting but in all the best ways. And alien orb shows up by the moon that takes 1,000 people from around the world every year. In year 20 our mc is selected. He stops to help a girl and ends up being sent to the middle of nowhere with an AI out to kill him, a brainless bimbo, and a giant who can’t fight. It’s do or die from beginning to end and an absolute treat to read
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2025So far this is a good read enjoy the characters looking forward to more book from this author
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2025Not many typos which was nice. The concept was hilarious. No epilogue at all the story just slams into a cliff at the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2025Good promise but childish characters. I hope follow on books have better writing. The MC has the thought processes and leadership ability of a 12 year old.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025The writer wants to be original so he eschews all litrpg norms and it’s just unreadable. There’s no aspect of this storyline that’s redeemable. I can’t recall ever encountering something so displeasing
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2025The writing isn't bad, I've read other books by Vasily and his writing is good. Unfortunately this book leans into, the what can go wrong will, in the stupidest way possible trope. I don't mund a ridiculous moment or too, a bit of stupidity or misunderstanding complicating things now and again, but that's all this book is. An unhelpful and purposefully sabotaging system, willfully ignorant and incompetent side characters, make the story unreadable. If your a fan of the Dungeon Crawler Carl or JoJo Bizarre Adventure, style stories you may like this but it's not for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2025Shallow and stupid. 20 mins was all I could handle. All the wrong things about litrpg..

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy and Fun
I laughed so much. Absolutely insane. Absolutely fun. Making somebody deathly allergic to fur a Tamer?
Of course the beautiful elf girl gets a leather Bikini armour set.
Their classes don’t fit them at all, their personal guide wants them dead, yet it still manages to be lighthearted and a lot of fun to read. I definitely can’t wait for the next book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting sexualisation
This book is a gross and uncomfortable read. The female main character is introduced by being sexually harassed against a wall, and the mc decided to interfere “because she was hot and he wanted her for himself”. Throughout the book, whatever scene she is in the mc includes some perverted line about her body, and even makes her fight naked at one point for no apparent reason. It’s a disgusting read and I couldn’t finish it.
Beyond the bizarre sleaziness the story is also boring, no new or unique twists to the usually tropes. The MC is unlikeable and annoying. The writing and humour is immature and cringey. Avoid this book
