One technology that can kill everyone in existence. One country on the brink of permanent collapse. One girl that can save everything.
After being rescued from the rubble, Natalie is welcomed into a new world of horrors, where she is reunited with a humanoid version of Hunter and barred by Danielle from seeing her mom.
But President Ash has a plan of his own, specifically one for not only ending the civil war in America but reducing everything to dust.
A new program called Maga X has been in testing for years, resulting in the deaths of thousands.
When President Ash decides to release this new program upon the population of America, he won’t just be mind controlling them, he will be vaporizing them from the face of the earth.
However, Natalie, Hunter, and her mom have a plan, one that involves ending the life of one man to save the lives of hundreds of millions.
And this time it’s not just about saving themselves, it’s about saving everything before it all turns to nothing.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2019As the middle book in the series, this one was probably the most emotional. Triggered was deep and thought provoking. It was full of despair and self reflection.
Natalie had lost everything that she loved in a hopeless world. But, she managed to find one ray of hope, Hunter. Her spirit was broken and everything that she knew about the world, and her enemies, was slowly closing in on her and changing shape. All she had, besides Hunter, were her memories to drive her.
This book wasn't just another sci-fi/ dystopian drama. It was a story of finding determination and self worth through the hopelessness. It was about finding the fight again when all has been lost. It was about conspiracies, half truths, and lies. It was full of suspense, and harrowing twists and turns that were completely unpredictable!
I loved that I could continue to see Natalie change and grow. I loved her self reflection, and her realization of the importance of humanity. I loved learning more about the fall of the country and Natalie's family, and I was utterly heartbroken at the cliffhanger ending.
There were still times where I felt like Natalie's voice was over descriptive or repetitive, but, overall, the author's writing has improved each book, and the suspense has grown with each installment. The story of Control Freakz so far has been terrifying, because it hasn't just been about mind control, nanobots, a tyrannical president, or a hopeless dystopian world. It's felt like a reflection, and possible prediction, of what could happen to us as a people if we lost our humanity and gave in to hate, prejudice, and the search for utopia. 3.5 stars!
Thank you to the author for providing me with this free e-copy in exchange for my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2019I received a free copy of this book and opted to share a review.
It pains me to say this, but I didn't want to finish this book. The only reason why I kept reading it is that the content did not violate my review policy guidelines. I expected to see Natalie grow and develop as a character in this series, and I thought that this book would be a huge turning point for her. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. Instead, Natalie's seemingly endless downward spiral and self-destructive narrative escalated, and it has yet to be resolved. It seemed as if the author got so caught up in Natalie's narrative and describing it in minute detail that the other elements of the plot, such as its setting and premise, were ignored. The premise has amazing potential when one considers the political climate here in the United States. The potential for outstanding social commentary is there; however, all of this potential is overshadowed by the narrative of a teenager who, with no discernible abilities (supernatural or otherwise), has managed to almost single-handedly doom most of humanity.
I'm sure that this will appeal to certain audiences, but it just doesn't appeal to me.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2020In the third novel in the Control Freakz box set, Michael Evans brings Natalie’s life into somewhat calmer but emotionally still challenging and turbulent waters. Unlike in action-and-killing-packed Control Freakz (book 1) and Delusional (book 2), Natalie in Triggered has even more time to look into herself, deals with her regrets and contemplate about her emotional state. The same broken state in which she made some bad moves and wrong decisions. As she becomes aware of the impact she has left on the world and the lives of her closest and dearest ones, she sinks into lethargy, self-pity, depression, and solitude. Before she sets her mind on becoming a new, yet the same old Natalie, determined to make great things for humanity.
Saving the world comes at too great a price and learning the truth can be too hard to handle. But the young author shows no mercy to his protagonists, and that is what I love about his writing. Not mentioning the continuous elements of surprise and his easy-to-read and rich writing style.
This is the review of an older edition of Triggered and some of my review may or may not pertain to the current edition of the novel. But I wanted my review to reflect an honest experience of the story as it was when I read it.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2019I was happy to read this book having read the previous two. The writer's style is not one that I was usually prefer, but I was able to get through the book and enjoyed reading it. Natalie is finally getting to a point where maybe she can have a life, she can have something that makes her happy, but everyone else continually wants something from her. They place so much pressure on her shoulders and it's enough to make anyone crack. Of course when you throw in the lack of knowing if her memories and what she feels is real, it's understandable that she switches moods so rapidly. The story is well-written, if a little wordy, but as I moved through the book I found myself making guesses at where Natalie's would end up, would she make the jump to save humanity, or would she stay focused on saving herself. I will say the ending surprised me and I would love to see where the series ends up going. Otherwise, a good book.
