Lost in the Wilderness

A man was stranded in the remote Canadian wilderness and needed to be rescued. There were power lines nearby leading to a town. However, the town was too far away to reach in the chilly conditions. The man possessed just a dinghy, two paddles and an axe. He wasn’t able to make fire or communicate with anyone. How did the man manage to get people to come and rescue him as quickly as possible?

Answer
The man used his axe to chop down the poles holding up the power lines. This caused the electricity to go out in the nearest towns. When the electricity company arrived on the scene to repair the outage, they found the man.

In 2010, a man was paddling his boat around Wollaston Lake in Saskatchewan, Canada when the lake began to freeze over. The man spent a week on the lake’s bank, in between the frozen lake and the desolate Canadian wilderness. The man used his overturned dinghy for shelter. However, as the weather deteriorated, he desperately needed to be rescued so he came up with a plan. He used his axe to chop down a nearby electrical pole. This caused the power to go out in the nearest towns. The electricity repair company chartered a helicopter to investigate the location of the outage and found the man. Despite being rescued, there was a consequence to the man’s plan- some towns had to go without electricity for 30 hours.

This is an interesting puzzle book. You can either try to solve the puzzles yourself or use it as the basis of a game for friends or family. Luckily the book is divided into three sections. Problems , clues and full explanations. All the problems are real events which makes it all the more interesting. The book is written in a clear style making it straightforward to read.

Great book for a games night with friends. Amazing that the puzzles are from real life situations and not invented. I like the clues section so that we dont go straight to the answer!
