Things We Left Behind (Knockemout Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 95,800 ratings

There was only one woman who could set me free. But I would rather set myself on fire than ask Sloane Walton for anything.

Lucian Rollins is a lean, mean vengeance-seeking mogul. On a quest to erase his father’s mark on the family name, he spends every waking minute pulling strings and building an indestructible empire. The more money and power he amasses, the safer he is from threats.

Except when it comes to the feisty small-town librarian that keeps him up at night…

Sloane Walton is a spitfire determined to carry on her father’s quest for justice. She’ll do that just as soon as she figures out exactly what the man she hates did to—or for—her family. Bonded by an old, dark secret from the past and the dislike they now share for each other, Sloane trusts Lucian about as far as she can throw his designer-suited body.

When bickering accidentally turns to foreplay, these two find themselves not quite regretting their steamy one-night stand. Once those flames are fanned, it seems impossible to put them out again. But with Sloane ready to start a family and Lucian refusing to even consider the idea of marriage and kids, these enemies-to-lovers are stuck at an impasse.

Broken men break women. It’s what Lucian believes, what he’s witnessed, and he’s not going to take that chance with Sloane. He’d rather live a life of solitude than put her in danger. But he learns the hard way that leaving her means leaving her unprotected from other threats.

It’s the second time he’s ruthlessly cut her out of his life. There’s no way she’s going to give him a third chance. He’s just going to have to make one for himself.

Suite Daddy 4L
★★★★★ ♾️ “It smelled… Heavenly wasn’t the right word. Delectably dangerous. The man’s scent was an aphrodisiac.” Sloan is a local librarian and quickly approaching 40 with no family in sight. Her dad just passed and his death gave Sloane the push she needed to start living the life she always wanted. To have a big happy, chaotic family with a man she loved. She has gone on countless dates and still hasn’t found someone who will light fire to her veins the way her childhood nemesis Lucian could. Lucian is your everyday bad boy who suffered a cruel childhood and turned his energy into money. He is a well established businessman with millions of dollars in his bank account and a suit to match any occasion. He is a protector and he is a giver. He doesn’t want a family. He doesn’t want kids and until recently he didn’t want anything to do with Sloane Walton. Lucian and Sloane go way back. Childhood friends and somewhere between then and now something happened to their friendship. Trust was betrayed. Feelings were forgotten and life got the best of them. Lucifer and Pixie 🧚 are my entire existence now. Their story has been building up for so long now that I just wanted them to jump each others bones and get married right away 😭. Their banter was the ultimate foreplay. Something about the way she calls him Lucifer that had my tongue hanging out my mouth 🥵 This book was the perfect ending to this series and while I cried mostly happy tears some were sad knowing that this is the end of the Knockemount boys. The extended epilogue gave me everything I needed and caused a lot more tears (happy ones again!) I said it from the first time Lucian was mentioned in TWNGO that he was going to the the end all be all for me and I was 100000000000% right. He was perfect, Dirty, Morally grey and everything in between. Now to touch on the nicknames in this book because we all know I love a good pet name 😍 •Sloaney Baloney •Pixie •Lucifer •Big Guy •Suit Daddy (bc if this isn’t Lucian to a T I don’t know what is) Like wahhhhhhh 🥰. They give me all the feels. Suit Daddy will forever be apart of my vocabulary now. Suit Daddy stole my heart and will have it forever ♾️

Things We Left Behind took everything I loved about the Knockemout series to a whole new level. This book was everything I hoped for and more—full of emotion, complex characters, and that perfect balance of tension, heartache, and joy that made the series unforgettable.

The way the author wrapped up this trilogy was absolutely brilliant. We finally get to dive deeper into the lives of Knox and Naomi as they continue their journey, but this book also shifts focus to other beloved characters from the series, giving us more of their stories and making it feel like a beautiful reunion. Each character’s personal growth and relationships were handled so thoughtfully, making this final installment truly satisfying.

The emotions in this book are real and raw. I found myself tearing up in parts, laughing in others, and cheering for these characters to overcome their challenges. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but in the best possible way. The chemistry between the characters continues to be one of the strongest points of the series, and by this book, you’re completely invested in their journeys.

I also really appreciated the Collector's Edition bonus content! It was such a treat to have additional insights, behind-the-scenes moments, and extra chapters that made me love the story even more. It was a perfect way to end this series and leave readers feeling satisfied and connected to the world the author created.

If you've loved the previous books in the Knockemout series, you absolutely cannot miss this one. It’s a beautiful, heartwarming conclusion to an emotional, well-crafted series that has captured my heart. I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time to come!"

    Pros:

    Emotionally satisfying and well-rounded conclusion
Focus on character growth and relationships
    Engaging chemistry between characters
Bonus content in the Collector’s Edition adds great value
Perfect blend of heartache, humor, and romance

    Cons:

If you haven’t read the first two books, it may be harder to fully appreciate the character arcs (but I’d highly recommend reading them all!)

I loved Lucian and Sloane’s grump-sunshine, enemies to lovers, second chance, benefits only, “we have a secret feud that we won’t talk about” romance. The book has a perfect blend of hilarity, sweet moments, difficult real life issues, danger, and steam. There was a lot of facing ugly truths and past pain with plenty of snort worthy laughs thrown in. This love story is not a twenty something’s flowers, mood lighting, tweeting birds and traditional romantic gestures insta-love story. This is the gritty, messy kind of love with dark painful places in between the light joyful ones. Sloane is the head librarian in small town Knockemout. At the beginning of the story, her dad just died of cancer and she realizes she put the needs of her career ahead of having a husband and children. She is determined to do that now. Lucian grew up next door to Sloane but had a very different childhood. Hers was loving and nurturing and his was full of violence. Sloane and Lucian had a long ago past though only they know what it was or what happened. They only interact when mutual friends force them together at social events. To get to their HEA will require the perfect storm of events, examination of long suppressed feelings, embracing their fears, healing, and of course trying to bring down a mob boss. Lucian and Sloane are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws and loads of baggage, but are really just trying to do their best as messy fallible humans. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in or are worthy, like Lucian. So I love when they finally see their truth and they get swoon worthy HEAs because they really deserve them. This is not an enemies to lovers story that tips into meanness or abuse. The MCs are clearly just emotionally wounded ones. At the beginning of the book, they have been “on a never-ending roller coaster of insults, sexual awareness, bitterness, and flirtation.” The character growth and development journey was done beautifully for both of them. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline and will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering with sweet moments, steamy scenes, laughs, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, danger, and all the heart squeezing love. This was a great book to end this phenomenal series.

“You are always my business. You always have been and always will be. The only difference is now you know it”

I went into this story with big feels about the series ending and Lucy Score knocked it out of the park. The absolute sizzling tension from the beginning between Sloane and Lucian explodes as they try their best to keep their hands off each other whilst simultaneously not being able to stop. It’s Lucy Score banter at its absolute best.

There’s clearly been history between these two as the series progressed and getting to peel back the layers of their complex relationship was extremely enjoyable.

Sloane is my favourite kind of heroine. Sweet, sassy and fierce. Not willing to let the hero walk all over her. I loved everything about Sloane and how she makes Lucian work for it.

Suit Daddy Lucian was everything I hoped for and more. We get to find out why he is the way he is and watch him work to let go of years of history. The way he cares for Sloane but continues to deny it is enjoyable.

I loved seeing some of our favourite characters from previous stories and some of my favourite scenes were the boys - Lucian, Knox & Nash and the girls - Sloane, Naomi & Lina. Found family is a common theme in many of Lucy Score’s books and you get more of this in Things We Left Behind.

This is truly the happily ever after for not only Sloane and Lucian but all of the residents of Knockemout. I love being left wanting more but satisfied feeling like the characters live on.
