It was a pleasure to return to the lovely world of Borteen Bay, a series I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed. Buzz was a particularly endearing character, a man who marches to the beat of his own drum and who carries a deep sadness because of his wife, Wynn who left him many years earlier with no explanation. When Skye turns up claiming to be his daughter his life turns upside down again and the domino effect it has proves monumental. I particularly enjoed the parallel love stories that developed between Buzz and Wynn and Skye and another new arrival to Borteen Bay, Adam. I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series already!

Skye flies from Dublin to the English seaside of Borteen, to meet her father, whom she has literally never met. His name is Buzz, and we find out that he runs the local crystal shop and his story is a really fascinating one! I enjoyed getting to know more about him and also his past.
She also meets the ultimate & amazingly attractive guy next door, Adam, who shows her that she can have room in her life for real love, and he plans on showing her just that.
I love how fast paced this was and light-hearted the romance was, while still obviously being very cute. While this is book 7 in a series and I feel like it could be read as a standalone, you might miss out on some key characters and information that was spoken about in the previous books. I loved the dual POV's, second chance romance and overall the light-hearted feel I got while reading this entire book. The characters are likeable and the story is so cozy.

Time can affect so many aspects of our life as in this story but true love can survive even the traumas that test it.

This was a sweet story about a young woman named Skye, who leaves home searching for answers to her life’s questions.

I loved the setting and how all the various characters appeared and were interconnected. Borteen truly feels like an idyllic seaside town full of lovely residents.

I struggled however, like other reviewers did, to truly understand or connect to the characters. Perhaps my mistake was not reading the other books in this series first… But reading this didn’t particularly make me want to go back and read the rest of the series either.

This was a nice, light read which counterbalanced the other book I was reading that was very serious. This was about a couple, both of whom are unconventional, who split up and are brought back together. They have a young adult daughter who did learns that she does not know if the man she thought was her father was, in fact, her father. She then learns she is pregnant herself. The story is about this family coming together in Borteen Bay, a lovely place where I would like to live in the UK.
I give this 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. The characters are a little less believeable than they could be and there are a few too many coincidences. However, sometimes this is exactly what is called for. However, there were a few places where the story got a bit slow and there could have been a little bit of tightening of the prose to make it flow a little better.

A quick read - it didn't really capture my interest but if you're looking for a light, quick romance read, this fits the bill.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy.

While this was a quick and easy read, I suspect reading earlier titles in the series would have benefitted reading this book. It was adorable but I didn’t feel a connection with the characters which would have had me more invested in the plot. Great pacing and a cute, lighthearted story that with some character development would stand alone as strong work in its genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars A welcome return to Borteen Bay

I love Morton Gray’s books and was looking forward to returning to Borteen Bay. And this book did not disappoint. It had everything I have come to expect from Morton’s books - a lovely setting, wonderfully drawn characters, mysteries and secrets and a very satisfying ending. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary romance

As Skye and Adam are both new to Borteen, this book could be a good introduction to the series. For me, it was a 7th visit, and once again I ended up hoping to come back soon.
Readers familiar with the inhabitants of this fictional place may remember Buzz, a character who previously appeared in the background, selling healing crystals in his shop and collecting donations for a charity near labyrinths he draws on the beach. We now get to find out a lot more about him and witness his second chance at a happy marriage. So we have two couples (and four points of view) in this story, which I liked. And, in addition to those romances and the family aspect of the whole plot, I really liked how Buzz manages to be friends with the local vicar despite their very different belief systems.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely, gentle read of hope and optimism.

I enjoyed returning to the enchanting setting of Borteen Bay and spending time in the company of Buzz, Skye and Adam. While Adam’s actions sometimes seemed impetuous, I felt this was explained as I discovered more about his character and motivation. For me, Buzz was the real star of the story, emerging as a compelling figure with his poignant creation of a labyrinth on the beach, only for it to be erased by the tide - encapsulating both the fragility of life and the enduring spirit of optimism (something he certainly embodies). As the characters come together, the narrative weaves their individual stories, creating a tapestry of resilience, healing, and acceptance. It's a lovely, gentle read to cosy up with on a cold evening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seaside setting and the run up to Christmas
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 7, 2024
I always enjoy spending time in Borteen Bay, with its seaside setting and memorable characters, and this new book in the series was no exception. It is set in the run up to Christmas but although a quick and relatively light-hearted read, it involves complex family dynamics and the righting of past mistakes. I was rooting for Buzz and Wynn to be brave for themselves, even as they were focussed on helping Skye to sort out her own life. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book to unwind with!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 24, 2024
This is a family orientated romantic read, set in a coastal, close-knit community where the pace of life is slower and people value each other more than money or advancement in a fast-paced career. It is perfect escapism where you can observe a family righting the mistakes they made in the past, whilst sub characters also get their chance at finding romance. Although an easy read, it does tackle some difficult subjects. It seems everyone has an inner battle to conquer and we, the reader, are there to watch them every step (or misstep) they make.
