About the author

Lois Wickstrom lives in a world where imaginary playmates are real. She doesn’t remember being born, so she finds unbirthdays are more exciting than the official once-a-year date on the calendar. She’s taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales.
She writes by herself. She writes with co-authors. She asks illustrators what they would like to draw. If she ever writes her autobiography, the title will be My Life as a Group Project.
Her mother used to get angry with her for daydreaming. Her little sister picked on her. So she lived in books and wrote her own stories in which the bad-guys made sense, and the good-guys had a chance. As she has grown older, her imagination has grown weirder. Even she doesn’t know what she will write next.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024Format: KindleVanishing Act by Lois Wickstrom is a delightful and imaginative children's book that combines mystery, magic, and adventure in a way that captivates young readers. The story revolves around a young Drake who experiences a series of unusual events, leading to an intriguing vanishing act that will keep kids guessing. Drake really gotta do what everyone has ever wanted to do, to be invisible even if it is just one day. Wickstrom's writing is accessible and engaging, using simple yet vivid language that will hold the attention of early readers. The book strikes a nice balance between lightheartedness and excitement. I can't wait to read more work from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2024Format: KindleThis installment of Lois Wickstrom books is called Vanishing Act, and it's about Drake feeling invisible. He falls down while playing in the band, and no one notices. He begins to wonder if he is invisible and slowly parts of him start to go invisible. As always, it kept my granddaughter's attention as I read it to her, and the illustrations are fantastic as always
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024Format: KindleDrake plays in his classes marching band. One day when he falls and is left behind he wonders if he is invisible. Next thing he knows, he really is becoming invisible! He gets his classmates help to try and find himself again. This one was a bit different and I'm not sure what the end lesson was, but it was creative and I'm sure could start some conversations.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024Format: KindleMy entire family loves it when I bring a book home by this author! Their ability to weave life lessons into a magical kid’s story is absolutely incredible. The illustrations are beautiful and help convey the message from the author. Drake begins to feel invisible when he’s always last in line and his classmates aren’t paying attention to him. Slowly he finds himself turning invisible and the adventure begins. I think everyone has experienced that feeling before, which is another reason this story is so great for kiddos. I wish it had a bit more of a solid conclusion as it ended quite abruptly. Like many of the other books by this author, it sparked some really great conversations in our household. I feel like this would make a perfect addition to any home, library, or classroom!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024Format: KindleA cute story about what it's like to become invisible.
Drake falls but no one notices he looks in the mirror but only his clothes are seen in the mirror. What on earth?!
He decides to accept it and walks home without clothes but he leaves his backpack on and the kids spot him.
Once he figures out how to be invisible he eagerly explores the life of an invisible person and what he can see hear, explore and much more but it also raises many good questions such as who am I? The integrity of a invisible person and so much more.
Another cute story i read.to my 6 year-old and it got her creative imagination rolling.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2025Format: KindleVanishing Act is another incredible story by a author our whole house loves. As soon as I told my kids we had another book to read they were so exciting, insisting on picking it up immediately.
As with all her books, this one is fun, engaging and helps to teach kids a great lesson. The illustrations really bring it to life and make it impossible to put down. A usual, we have read this book multiple times and I am sure we will be reading it many more to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024Format: KindleI enjoyed this book and I think many children will enjoy it as well. I liked how it dealt with how sometimes children can feel like they are invisible and nobody can see them. All it takes is a little bit of time and attention to make them feel better. I found this author writes books that children can relate to and enjoy. I recommend it to anyone with children who love to read.
