Vanquish (Deliver Book 2) Kindle Edition
"Disturbingly graphic, violent, shocking, and holy mother of hot alpha, dominant, complex, sexy as all hell Van Quiso. Just saying his name gives me chills in all my favorite parts." - The Rock Stars of Romance
Her life is like a prison cell.
A self-made, to-hell-with-the-free-world existence that locks from the inside.
Stop judging. Her agoraphobia doesn't define her. It simply keeps her safe.
He belongs in a prison cell.
The 6x8, make-me-your-b*tch variety that locks from the outside.
But he's free. To hunt. To take. To break.
And he just found a sexy new toy.
Capturing her is the easy part. Her f*cked-up mind, however, makes him question everything he does next.
But he's a determined bastard. If all goes his way, this will hurt like hell.

"The woman takes the most taboo... for lack of a better word, f***ed up subjects, and writes them so eloquently. Her writing is flawless. You do not just read a Pam Godwin book. You experience it. Truly. Heart racing, blood pumping, full-on adrenaline rush. I am addicted." - Heather, The Real Housewives of Romance

About the author
New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author, Pam Godwin, lives in the Midwest with her husband, cats, retired greyhounds, and an old, foul-mouthed parrot. She traveled the world for seven years, attended three universities, married the vocalist of her favorite rock band, and retired from her quantitative analyst career in 2014 to write full-time.
Her interests veer toward the unconventional: bourbon, full-body tattoos, and tragic villains. Equally peculiar are her aversions to sleeping, eating meat, and dolls with blinking eyes.

Psychological Romance
First off this is a standalone and you can read without reading Deliver. As Pam states if you plan on reading Deliver you should read it first. Reading Vanquish will spoil parts of Deliver for you.
This book didn't really have the twist in turns that Deliver did but in my opinion it was just as good. It focused on the healing and basically f***ed up relationship of Van and Amber.
I was completely fascinated by Amber. To put it mildly she was just a complete f*****g mess or as Van so beautifully puts it his broken doll. Her disorders were terrifying and the psychological aspect of this story was just so interesting to me. I was so fascinated by the fact that she was more scared of her disorders than a man kidnapping her, or trapping her in her home and terrorizing her. While all of that scared her the agoraphobia drove her more than the all the evil in the world showing up at her doorstep. I have to say she is one of the best characters I have ever read about. Beautifully broken but also in other ways strong. Amber was also feisty, funny, and made life for Van hell.
Van scared the s**t out of me in Deliver and honestly I am still scared of him in Vanquish.
"I'm the heir of torment, Amber."
"I'm the slippery footprints in your carpet. The creaking floor that steals air from your lungs. The hand that holds the gun." He paced through the room, snagging a pair of jeans from the floor, and met her eyes. "I'm the inescapable curse that caught you when you opened your door."
The difference is now I understand what drives him. Beneath all of the scary was a vulnerable and admirable person. I was amazed at how driven he was to save Amber. It started out as a means to get to Liv and Livana but it quickly changed on him. His desire to have something for his own and someone to love him back topped any other agenda he had.
Do yourself a favor and read this book and basically anything Pam Godwin writes. Riveting and unique storytelling is hard to find these days and I am awed by Pam Godwin's writing. Van and Amber are going to stick with me for a while and Van is now officially my first psycho book boyfriend.
This is character study of 2 deeply damaged people who heal each other and fall in love in the process. The characters are extremely well drawn, the plot was credible, and the sex was hot.
So why not five stars? Amber, that's why. She has OCD, agoraphobia, etc. Some of her issues are congenital. She has been shut in for 2 years, and in therapy for a long time. Van believes he can fix her. And over the course of 9 months - 3 with him, six on her own, she does get fixed, albeit with some residual weirdness. Not buying it. I've watched people I love with these forms of mental illness, and it's not a question of being "strong" and "finding something within yourself to overcome the problem". These are disorders that are driven by chemical imbalances in the brain. They are not learned behaviors. While you can learn strategies to cope with these disorders (and Van was shockingly good with the strategies), I find it hard to believe that without professional help (while she got back in contact with her shrink, therapy was never explicitly referred to) and some meds, that one a severely effected as she was could pull herself together the way she did. I get that her love for Van was a motivating factor, but well loved people suffer from these illnesses at an alarming rate.
If this is your first time with this author, I suggest reading Beneath the Burn - her best work to date.
This is the second book that I've read by Pam Godwin and I have realized that she's an amazing writer and writes the stuff that I love. The dark, the dirty, and the depraved. I'm talking taboo subjects like rape and sexual slavery. It makes me so giddy and excited!
Vanquish is Van's story. I was intrigued by Van from the beginning of Deliver. I wanted to know his story. I wanted to know what made him the way he is and why. I wanted to know if he was capable of actually loving somebody selflessly.
Van's story is heartbreaking. When it finally came out my heart hurt for him. It's tragic, really. And the girl in this story, Amber. Her story is heartbreaking as well. Sexist pigs.
Amber is agoraphobic, OCD, bulimic, and suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. That's enough to drive off even the strongest of people. But Van makes it his mission to selflessly fix Amber and take her from a broken doll to the flawless beauty queen she once was.
Pam Godwin did an awesome job of writing Amber's character. It was completely believable and I felt what Amber was feeling. When she'd become panicked she'd pass out, I found my heart racing in my chest, just like hers was. As she started falling in love, I found myself falling with her. And to me, to be able to write like that, that's a gift. I enjoy being able to really feel what I'm reading, and Pam is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors because she can do that effortlessly.
I started this series when I had no reviews for my blog due, but sadly, it may be a while before I can read Camila's story, Disclaim, which is next. I've already one clicked it and I will read it one day, hopefully soon. I've fallen in love with this series and these characters.

I didn't find this one as dark, but it was still there and even had some funny one liners.
This one was about two very broken halves heal as whole, escaping too long in the dark.
Amber has been conditioned into believing the worst in herself and with self-loathing and along with her syndromes, have made it difficult along with her agoraphobia to leave her prison of a home.
While Van,his past is one without love, abuse, he's become self deprecation of his life choices after losing Liv.
So when he see's Amber as a new obsession, he finds her quirks and self-loathing fascinating. He's a determined soul and his methods are somewhat unconventional, but he really does mean well when he "pushes her out the door". These two find love from the unconventional and it's what makes their story so endearing, they're both far from "normal", but its such a fantastic story. Again the writing is on another level, Van is someone you shouldn't love, but I can't even say I hate him, even after all he's done.
I think with Amber and all her issues this was Van's chance at redemption, her crazy beautiful was perfect for him and they made the perfect couple, I loved them together.
With each book I read I become more of a Pam Godwin fan, her writing is beyond anything I could have imagined and this is another firm favourite.
