Versions Of Us (Cliff Haven Book 2) Kindle Edition
Kristen Riley has a tough exterior and an elastic heart, forged from the abandonment of her father at a young age. She’s always held her cards close to her chest, never allowing anyone to get too close.
Except for Alex Henley – the boy, who at sixteen was a fun-loving prankster that never took life too seriously, and as a man, hides the deep-seated fear that he will never be enough behind a veil of nonchalance.
Despite their reluctance to dive head-first into a fully committed relationship, they’ve always known they were endgame and when Kristen notices a quiet change in Henley’s character, an understated attentiveness and maturity, she opens up to the possibility of a future with him.
Then without warning, Henley does the one thing she can never forgive him for. He leaves.
Six months later, Henley arrives back in Cliff Haven, the seaside town they’ve always called home, with a mysterious blonde in tow. But the man that returns is a far cry from the one Kristen once knew, his easy-going nature and cheerful disposition supressed by a constant storm cloud hovering above his head.
Kristen is furious, determined to leave Henley in the past, but she can’t deny that her heart still belongs to him. She wants answers that he isn’t ready to provide.
Why did Henley leave the life they were building behind? Who is the enigmatic blonde woman that doesn’t leave his side?
And does she know more than she’s letting on?
Told from dual POVs, Versions of Us is a wholesome story of second chance love and finding hope in the darkest of places.

It has long been known that Kristen Riley and Alex Henley are the ideal couple, but they are also the ones that come with a lot of baggage. Henley is the local troublemaker who is always getting into mischief by being boisterous as hell, has a penchant for failing to follow through on plans, and is skeptical about commitments. The only person who can truly keep Henley calm is Kristen, who is a powerhouse with a golden heart and a desire to serve others, as evidenced by her new volunteer position at the Cliff Haven Crisis line. When their two pals get engaged, something in Henley changes and he realizes he can't live without Kristen.
But, just as Henley is about to leap head first into committing entirely, Kristen receives a cryptic call from him telling her she needs to move on and he'll never be returning. That is, until Henley returns to town six months later, accompanying a strange girl and appearing to be broken, leaving Kristen enraged and clamoring for explanations.
My heart swells with an abundance of love, a great deal of sorrow, and abounding hope as I reflect back on my journey through reading Versions of Us.
Throughout much of my reading, I felt as if I were watching a movie. Blakely's use of imagery felt organic and wasn't overly wordy. It was an essential way to convey a vivid image of Cliff Haven and the people who lived there.
While dual POV stories and books don't really appeal to me. Usually, because my head flutters the entire time, or I find myself concentrating too much on the numerous plot holes that exist between the POVs. However, author Eve Blakely gave me hope that not all multiple POVs are hastily written.
Our primary characters, Kristen and Henley, were interwoven in a smooth manner by the author. I enjoyed being able to absorb what they were feeling and thinking. The weight of their various emotions, Kristen's knowledge that Henley is concealing something, and Henley's need to release the pressure of his secrets despite knowing the harm it will do.
Although Kristen and Henley's journey to reconnect with one another is the focus of this tale, there is much more to it. It is a tale of courage, frailty, unedited emotion, secrets, and the hellfire one might experience while attempting to flee a difficult circumstance.
I don't think I've fully recovered from this one, to be completely honest. I find myself thinking back to specific moments from the novel. Specific quotes still resonate with me.

This book was provided to me in advance to the books release date.
I want to be clear that all opinions expressed here are my honest and unsolicited thoughts on the book.

“I’ve carried him with me ever since, a part of me almost certain that despite the many twists and turns we’ve taken, that no matter where our lives lead us, at some point we’ll find our way back to each other. That even if we get lost somewhere along the way we’re destined to be found.”
“I cant not love you.”
“While I breathe, I hope.”
First off thank you Eve Blakely for the wonderful opportunity getting to read this ARC. This book is a YA romantic suspense book(my opinion). Some of the tropes associated with this book include second chances, mental health aspects, miscommunication, dual POV, soulmates, lovers to enemies to lovers, small town, secrets, betrayal, strong female characters
It is hard to put in words how I feel about this book. This book had me crying, laughing, wondering what the heck is going on, nail biting, etc. you cant name one emotion for this book. The way the author presented mental health issues with a MMC was everything. Not many books put the MMC in that position. She did a fantastic job of it.
Kristen and Henley are the forever goals. Just like everyone else they have ups and downs. Miscommunication is a huge issue with them. I’m not a huge fan of it but Eve did a good job with it.
This book won’t let you down. Releases November 29th, 2023!!!!

Genre: Romance
"You can be anywhere when your world caves in...." but you also "can be anywhere when your life begins". I absolutely loved this book. Versions of Us is #2 in the Cliff Haven series but can be read as a standalone (with a little spoiler of where the couple from book 1 ends up... I 100% plan to go back and read book #1 The Other Version). Book #2 tells the romance of Kristen, a psychology student who volunteers at the local Crisis Helpline, and Alex (often referred to as Henley), a bartender at the local tavern who just was promoted to manager. They both seem to be in a really good spot in their relationship and life until Alex essentially disappears for 6 months and then returns to town with another young woman. Alex is not the same person he was when he left and Kristen doesn't know what to make of her feelings, other than she's furious he broke her heart. I'm not going to spoil the plot because it's really surprising, but also so good--it's better to go in without knowing much more!
Kristen is a really strong, female character that really understood human emotions and that it's okay to make mistakes (she'll make a great counselor someday!). And Henley is definitely book boyfriend material, always taking care of others physically and emotionally, even if it means making hard choices. "Dum spiro spero...while I breathe, I hope". When I tell you I repeated this phrase from the book so many times as I read it! The mental health representation was extremely well done. I cried reading it at times as Eve Blakely did such a beautiful job of pulling the reader in to Kristen and Henley's story--you couldn't NOT root for them and love them.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2023This is my first book by this author, absolutely not going to be my last. I love reading books by new to me authors. The beautiful cover is what drew me to this book. Versions of Us is book 2 in the Cliff Haven series. I am definitely reading book 1, The Other Version, asap.
Versions of Us follows the twisty journey of Alex and Kristin. It’s told in dual POV which I love. Alex and Kristin are end game, soulmates, meant to be. That is, up until he disappears. He calls Kristin to advise he’s never coming back and she should move on. After months of nursing her broken heart, Alex resurfaces back in Cliff Haven, but he isn’t alone. When Kristin sees him back in town w a new girl beside him, it only creates more questions in her mind and she’s determined to get answers.
If you enjoy lovers to enemies to lovers in a small town romance trope, grab this book!

Kristen and Alex have known each other since they were teenagers, and despite their on and off relationship, deep down, they always knew that they were endgame. As days went by, their love only grew stronger, and a future together seemed to be within arm's reach. Then the unexpected happens, Alex leaves, turning Kristen's world upside down. When he returns with a mysterious woman 6 months later, Kristen is hurt and angry and expects answers. Although she can't seem to recognise this version of Alex. The happiness in his eyes is replaced with sadness. Gone is the easy-going and cheerful man he once used to be.
At first, i was very frustrated with Alex, but once i got to know the reason behind his sudden disappearance and why he lied, i couldn't help but feel my heart breaking for him. I admired the length he was willing to go just to keep her protected, even if that meant breaking his own heart in the process.
"𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶."
Kristen's hard exterior was a disguise for her soft heart. She was strong and brave, someone who never gave up, regardless of her troubled past.
"𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘐 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦, 𝘐 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦."
The lyrics "you drew stars around my scars" kept replying in my head while reading. I think that single line fits Kristen and Alex's relationship so well. Their road might have been bumpy, but in the end, they found their way back to each other.
This really is a story about love, sacrifices, second chances, and finding hope in the darkest corners of your life.

Versions of Us is the second book in the Cliff Haven series, and shares the story of Kristen Riley and Alex Henley. Those that read The Other Version, anyone else so excited to get more of their story?! I love when series focus on different characters each book. 🫶🏼
I’m still processing my thoughts on this one, I loved every moment of it and again my JAW DROPPED many many times. This story almost had a bit of a thriller aspect to it, and I loved it. I had a hard time putting the book down as I needed to know what happened next!
This was such a sad, emotional, and beautiful story. The mental health representation was beautifully done. This story is about second chances, small town romances, and family, with duo POV.
Chapter 42, Alex’s POV from 6 months ago has my heart 🥁 🖤

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book! ❤️
I just love Eve Blakely’s writing. She draws you in and keeps you hooked until the very last page and book 2 in the Cliff Haven series was no exception! Initially, I was intrigued as the book starts with our love interests, Henley and Kristen, already as a couple and I wondered where their story was going to take me but BOY, I was not prepared for their emotional journey. A must read for all second chance romance fans who love a gritty, edgy plot, full of drama, tension and so many emotions! Loved it!
