4.5 out of 5 stars 1,119 ratings

Meira Amon is the most reserved of the phoenixes, finding computers easier to deal with than people and their messy emotions. Offering herself as a queen for their ally, dragon shifter King Gorgon of the Black Clan, only makes sense.

Just one problem...

Samael Veles worked his lowborn ass off to become the fiercest warrior of the Black Clan. He has pledged his life to protect his king at all costs. Yet somehow, in the middle of war, he took one look at a woman in a reflection and gave up his heart. When that woman turns out to be the phoenix promised to mate his king and help bring peace to their kind, he has no choice but to accept it.

Until her fire unexpectedly destroys the king after they've wed. Now Samael must choose between his loyalty to his clan and protecting the queen who might be his mate from his people's wrath, one of which will unlock a destiny no one could have ever imagined...

What a fantastic addition to the Inferno Series!
Samael and Meira's tale is filled with danger, heartache, and sacrifice. ***** Rating: 4 stars Steam: 2 flames Genre: Dragon Shifter / PNR ***** What would you do if the woman you can't stop thinking of, the woman your dragon wants, is marrying your king? If you are Samael, intent on doing what is right, you step aside and you hope the hurt goes away. Meira has always done what is right and in order to unite the Blue, Black and Gold Dragon clans, the black dragon king, Gorgon, needs to mate a phoenix. Months go into the planning of the mating ceremony. Meira doing what is right, even if she has dreams of another. Samael keeping his distance because he can't bear to watch the woman, he dreams about marrying another. After the exchanging of formal vows, Gorgon and Meira return to his chambers to begin the mating ceremony. What is the one thing we have learned in all the books? If the phoenix does not choose the mate completely the dragon will go up in flames. One kiss is all that is exchanged before he goes up in flames, but just as he is dying something happens…. Yikes…not going to tell you what but something happens! Samael races into the room, takes a look at the situation and fulfills his promise to the king, keeping the queen safe. Next thing you know they are teleporting through the mirror and on the run! Samael is a warrior through and through, duty and honor are not just words but a way of life, a code. He has lost his king and is with the woman he dreams of, lovely, logical, scientific, Meira. These two have a hard path in front of them. This book is filled with lies, betrayal, treachery, pain, and loss. I will be honest, I teared up at the end of this book, my heart broke, and then slowly started to mend. The war with the Red False King is coming to a head and the battle has just begun. The Warrior King is filled with suspense, twists, and turns that will keep you guessing, characters I am completely invested in, and another swoon-worthy mate match, Samael and Meira are simply perfect for each other. This book and series gets my recommendation

This series just keeps getting better and better! The Warrior King was an intense, emotional, and utterly captivating read, and I cannot wait to dive into Angelika’s story next!

Meira Amon has always been the quiet, thoughtful one among the phoenix sisters, but don’t let that fool you—she is fierce, determined, and incredibly powerful in her own way. Her unique ability to teleport through mirrors and reflective surfaces is absolutely fascinating, making her a deadly force when she chooses to use it.

In an effort to help in the war against the tyrant Pytheios, she has promised herself in a political alliance to Gorgon, the King of the Black Dragons. But just when she believes she is securing an important partnership, everything takes a shocking turn. A single unexpected kiss reveals the horrifying truth—the real Gorgon is missing, and the one she was about to bind herself to is actually a Red Dragon in disguise! Before anyone can react, he is consumed in phoenix fire, and suddenly, all eyes turn to Meira as the one responsible for the Black Dragon King’s death.

Enter Samael, the brooding and intensely loyal captain of the Black Dragons. He is common-born but has risen through the ranks, proving himself as a warrior and leader in his own right. With chaos erupting around them, Samael whisks Meira away to protect her from the wrath of the Black Dragons while they search for the real Gorgon.

Their journey is full of tension, longing, and so much emotional depth. Meira is torn—she was promised to another, and she believes she must honor that commitment for the good of their cause. Meanwhile, Samael is struggling with his own sense of duty and the forbidden feelings that keep growing between them. Every moment they spend together is a battle—not just against their enemies, but against the undeniable attraction sparking between them. The slow burn romance had me absolutely hooked!

The stakes in this book are higher than ever, with betrayals, shocking twists, and an epic journey that takes Meira and Samael from danger to destiny. The way they fight their emotions while also fighting for the future of their world is beautifully written, and when they finally give in… pure magic!

I absolutely adore how each book in this series gives every phoenix sister a completely unique love story, each filled with different challenges, strengths, and emotional journeys. The Warrior King was passionate, action-packed, and beautifully romantic—and now I am SO READY for Angelika’s story next!

        Five blazing, dragon-fire stars!

        4/5 stars

        POV: Meira and Samael
        Pacing: quick read
Steam: Instant attraction, slow burn with open door scenes
        Tropes: Forbidden love, fated mates

        Synopsis:
Meira is a more introverted character that loves computers and used to living in a castle with gargoyles. She offers herself as phoenix queen to help her sisters and their kings ally with the black clan against Pytheios. Samael is a black dragon, close to the black dragon king and unfortunately believes the woman promised his king he's sworn to protect is his true mate. When the black king goes up in flames after the mating ceremony, so does everything else and sends the black clan in turmoil.

        Overall:
I really enjoyed the third story in this series! Meira and Samael had such a good slow burn chemistry that had a bit of forbidden love trope. There was instant attraction, but because she was promised to another, they were both trying to suppress that attraction. I enjoyed how they slowly became lovers which doesn't happen a lot with the fated mates trope. The world building itself was well done just like prior works in the series! I loved reading about the gargoyle's castle and their world which we only received glimpses of before. Overall, I really loved this story and the chemistry made it one of my favorites in this world so far!

There are some books that the story and the characters are so rich and three dimensional that I fall into the story and feel an integral part of it rather than just a simple voyeur. The story lives and breathes - it makes you want to hurry up and finish while simultaneously wanting to slow down to make it last. The Warrior King is one of those stories. It has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous excitement, cut throat and loyal supernatural creatures, strong family ties, nail biting fight and chase scenes, and even some chuckles, all set against the backdrop of a continuing war between dragon clans.

Meira and Samuel’s love story has all the feels - expect to gasp, laugh, grit your teeth, and cry. Samuel is the Captain of the Guard for Gorgon, the king of the black dragons, who Meira has offered to mate to help solidify the alliance between the black, gold and blue dragons. Meira, one of four Phoenix sisters, is an empath who can teleport through mirrors. At the very beginning of the book, on the day of the mating ceremony, Samuel is made the Viceroy of War for the black dragon clan and swears to protect Meira as well as King Gorgon. A vow he has to almost immediately act upon following the mating ceremony between Gorgon and Meira when Gorgon seems to be destroyed by Meira’s phoenix fire. She and Samuel escape and travel through mirrors to try to discover what has happened to Gorgon so that Meira can fulfill her promise to be fully mated to him. As the war between the dragon clans continues to rage, Samuel and Meira learn to operate as a team through the many dangers and enemies they face, but their growing attraction makes it difficult to remain on their individual paths chosen for duty - to mate Meira to the black dragon king, destroy the red king and bring peace to dragonkind.

On their way to their HEA, Samuel and Meira have to both learn to let down their walls, to let go of their pasts, their perceptions of themselves, and where they thought they were supposed to go in order to embrace a life neither one thought was possible. I am excited to hear what happens next for the dragon shifters and whether the evil ruthless red king will be defeated and balance restored to dragonkind.

Sprinkled throughout this beautifully paced story of Meira and Samuel’s HEA, there are also a number of secondary characters introduced - some are new to the series and some are from earlier books in the series or from the Fire’s Edge series, a parallel story arc. Rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main love story, these characters are central to the unfurling of Meira and Samuel’s dance of love and passion and the arc of the dragon war. We learn enough about who the secondary characters are in the story along with just enough of their stories so that they’re fully developed characters in their own right. Samuel and Meira’s story is book 3 in the Inferno Rising series. It is a stand alone but the series has a story arc that weaves the books together. To get the full richness of the story I suggest you read them all..

In the continuation of the story of the phoenix sisters, Meira is to pledge herself to the Black King Gorgon, but at the touch of fire he is exposed to her as someone else.

Sameal has been tasked with Meiras safety but finds that she is his fated mate.

There is lots of past paced action, lots of feelings and a part that had me sobbing, but ultimately the book brings you closer to the end of the story and three of the sister are now queens on thrones with their mates.

I cannot wait to see how the wraps up and to see more of the mate pairs.

Finally I was able to read all about Sam and Meira.
I was so looking forward to reading about these two, as in book 2 the epilogue left me wanting more.

It was so fun to read them because it is so obvious that those two belong together, but their journey for sure was not the easiest. On the one hand Meira, a computer nerd who does not believe in fates and destiny but rather logical choices and then you have Sam, the "I-have-a-Chinese-wall-around-my-heart" dragon, who fights his feelings, his needs, his destiny.

But, if it wasn't for the amazing author, I guess those two would still be fighting their destinies, but Abigail showed once again how much talend she has, how much she captivates the readers into the world of dragon shifters, romance, love and brings joy - to her main characters but also to me or the readers ;)

The story is about to reach its high - it is the second last book. We get to understand more from the enemies, we learn more about the world of dragons, but, as in the previous books, the main focus was on the main couple, which I again loved so much.

The steamy scenes were steamy, but a few - please do we get more in book 4? :D Other than that just perfect sequel to the series. Can't wait for Angelika ...

        ****
